i wanted this instead of the droid i tried it out it was awesome then my aunt got on and i played with it and its to slow for me especially when running apps or downloading/installling/removing
I actually think the Eris is really good looking. People say it's ugly but I think it looks better than the HTC Hero, both the Euro version and the US Sprint version.
The black rubberized look with the chrome bottoms and chrome strip on the the sides makes it look pretty slick.
At first I was going to get the Motorola Droid, but I'm going to go with the Eris.
When i picked up this phone on Saturday i really didn't know what to expect, but after playing around with it for a while i am REALLY impressed. No phone has really taken me away like this one has since the first iPhone. Absolutely incredible, and the android OS is bar-none the most fantastic mobile phone OS on the market to date. Man am I impressed.
I just tried the Eris out at my local Verizon store just to really see if i would like the feel of it, and it's awesome. I LOVE IT.. I'm sold. Looking forward to the 2.0 update, especially for the voice guided nav. :)
Verizon is well known to never deliver on their promises. I dont expect 2.0 to be released on this phone. Other than that this phone is pretty cool. Tried it in the store today. Capacitive screen is so superior to all the crappy LG phones with resistive screens.
It is a wicked hard choice. I wanted the Droid since I first heard of it over the Droid Eris. Then I saw a video review on the Eris and the interface is much better. Then I saw them both in person, and I am torn. But leaning towards the Eris.
I got a HTC Hero (Sweden) with the UI shown in the video. I'm really happy with it. Installing google apps on my domain to tie it all together... I'm feeling "high-tech" and "design" like Apple and didn't get ripped of (€450 instead of €700 iPhone). And Google keeps delivering... I can't wait to use Google maps as drive-GPS ;D
me too. I just don't know if I should fork out an extra 100 for the motorola.
I'm mad that we don't have the sony ericcson version in the US. It has a 1Ghz processor and larger screen. What the hell America? Aren't we supposed to have the nicer phones first? Are we seriously that much behind?
I can see why you would be. If you're more concerned with hardware specs, the Droid wins, hands down. But in terms of software, the Eris packs quite a punch with the Sense UI, which even Android 2.0 can't rival yet. Also, HTC has announced that they will be releasing Android 2.0 updates for all their Android phones over the next couple/few months. I plan on buying this with a 1-year contract, so I can buy a Sense UI device next year with beefier hardware without paying top dollar.
damn dude thanks for the idea i was gonna get the droid on a 2yr but wanted to get the iphone 4g in 1 year. so getting this on a 1yr for the price of the droid on 2yr would b perfect. eve nif i decide to stay on verizon ill get a bigger discount next year : )

is the software keyboard easy to use? I used one the other day a little on the eris and it seemed like it would take getting used to

The only thing I would worry about is the 2 year old Qualcomm CPU inside. Slow compared to current flaship phones.

The Droid Eris (HTC Hero) will have the Android 2.0 upgrade and the HTC Sense UI is better than the Motorola Droid ... so it's an hard choice.

I am as well. The Sense UI is just so awesome. I'm not worried about the Android 1.5 as a 2.0 upgrade is coming soon... what to do.......
