The A-line bob is named for the A-line PART at the back of the head. It's an arch! NOT a straight line. You can't get the balance or the angle right without the right part. It starts above the occipital bone and runs below the ear on either side. You start the CUT 1/2 inch below the bone, after you trim away the "A" in the back! Clippers, razor, scissor, it doesn't matter if you're trained to cut hair! This is just an angled bob.

One cannot name a cut for how it is sectioned during the cut because all schools have different methods for the same cut. At blanche macdonald we start with diagonal subsections and direct all forward hair back to the first line cut, the overdirection gives the longer hair in front and the A shape.

@MeganAshlyD then you should know that the hair is being elevated at that angle to give the desired graduation and the fingers are being "flipped up"to account for the natural curvature of the head so the cut won't look choppy, but you already knew that because you are a cosmo, wait isn't a cosmo someone who does makeup, facials and nails? I remember I was so surprised and disappointed at american hair stylists because even the stylists who work at well-known beauty salons, they are not good enough to have customers.. I move to u.s.a. three years ago from Japan... japanese hair stylist aprentices don't know but they are already very killed and well trained compare to those stylists in the states.
