  • i got a new new england version of the 243 this year

  • Damn good shooting. excellent caliber and this guy illustrates it's abilities ! Fantastic ! Thanks for posting this ! Can't wait to share this with my .30 caliber friends who think the .243 is too light.

  • @seekatree Well thanks for your kind words. I shoot this same distance with one of my custom ARs I built, I try to shoot that on non-windy days as those 69 grn SMKs can't buck the wind like that high BC Berger VLD. I will post a video of that soon.

  • @IllinoisCoyoteHunter Looking very forward to your next video, thanks for the reply !

  • Nice work. The average hunter is hard pressed to shot that well at 100 yards. The .243 in underappreciaterd in my oppinion. Nice video.

  • @timmytyphoon Thanks!

  • almost zero recoil i have 700 bdl remington

  • its alwayz been a good coyote gun i could hit them on the run jus makem fold up.

  • What scope are you using? 7-21

  • @benwall99 In this video I was using a 6-24x Tasco POS. I have now equipped it with a Nikon Monarch 6-14x.

  • What an awesome range! And damned good shooting! Can I come live with you guys?!

  • @MrSDSTRIKEBREAKER Thanks for the kind comments! You don't wanna live in Illinois...or I mean ill-annoy. Trust me!

  • Nice shooting.

I shoot the 95gr VLDs as well.

  • just squeeze tha trigger man, i must have seen u yank it two or three times

  • @12footsativa I know how to squeeze the trigger. Trust me.

  • The 243 is a little under-powered for deer at that range but it will do the job - sometimes. BTW good shooting and love your Blackwater shirt ;-)

  • @Aussie038 Thanks for the comment mate! Gonna make some more videos. New scope on the .243, just finished building my heavy barreled ar, and exteneded my shooting range to over 1k yards.

  • @Aussie038 think a hollowpoint would have a little more stopping power at that distance?

  • @nccamokid Interesting question. I do not believe that it will. Barnes makes the LRX for long range hunting and it's a hollow point with a "Tip". They know something about bullets. Generally speaking I don't trust hollow points (other than pure copper bullets) for hunting as I have seen my fair share of failures. This also opens another question in long range hunting. Even if we hit, is the bullet we use going to work? My opinion is that if we place the bullet well it really makes no difference.

  • @Aussie038 thats kinda what i was thinking although ive heard people have taken game from 400 yards with a 243 i dont know that i would try it even with a well placed shot

  • And as far as handloads, yes there are people that will reload practice rounds to save a few bucks. However, they won't take the time to load PRACTICE rounds .010 or .020 off the lands, they won't measure the charge to an exact velocity, and they won't call them CUSTOM. Just because a company out there will load to your specs doesn't make it FACTORY loaded ammunition. Can I go to Gander Mtn and buy it off the shelf? Didn't think so. That's called a custom handload you fucktard.

  • @ThrottleJunkie So since I handload I have to shoot the way you do? Since I handload I have to keep my cheek on the stock and not take it off between shots? So since I handload I have to put my ammo box on the right side of me? Since I handload I have to follow and practice basic fundamentals?? I have an idea. Why don't you post a video of your shooting and I will critique it. Get a grip dude.

  • @ThrottleJunkie If you're happy with mediocrity then God bless you dude. Most people live by the "anything that's worth doing is worth doing right" mentality. If you wanna half ass it and you're happy being an incompetent marksman then that's your prerogative. I guess I just can't understand doing anything, be it shooting, job, life, family, etc to less than the best of my ability. I tried to offer a simple suggestion. It's called constructive criticism. Clearly you don't take that well.

  • @ThrottleJunkie Ok, I referenced Rifleman because there was an ad for a company that will make custom handloads. You have your opinion of the NRA and I have mine...BUT that is not the basis of our debate. Stay on track. You mention constructive criticism. Is calling someone a "fucktard" constructive criticism? If you comprehended my first reply to you I had clearly stated that your were right, but I don't practice that way. Incompetant marksman? Where is your video? I hit the target didn't I??

  • @ThrottleJunkie Everyone has their opinion. You are entitled to yours. Just because YOU may do it one way does not mean that everyone has to do it that way. I don't care about basic fundamentals of keeping my cheek on the stock. All I care about is that my bullet goes where I want it to go...and it does fairly accurately at 600+ yards. Good luck with your shooting!

  • You could make your life a lot easier if you moved your ammo box to the right side of the rifle. Wouldn't have to come off your cheek weld after every shot.

  • @ThrottleJunkie True, but I am not super sniper tactical man who needs a quick follow-up shot. I don't pretend to be either. I like to shoot, take a little break, take a drink of coffee, take a piss, and then maybe shoot another round. But I do thank you for your comment and you are correct.

  • @IllinoisCoyoteHunter Doesn't matter if you're trying to be super sniper tactical man or jim bob wallydanger down the street. It's basic fundamentals and every shooter should constantly practice them. Cheek shouldn't come off the rifle until you're finished engaging the target.

  • @ThrottleJunkie I will shoot how I want and you can shoot how you want. I am not military but a casual shooter. It is called having fun. I am not engaging targets, just merely shooting them. I know it means the same, but like I said before I am not military, and do not pretend to be. If you don't like it and can't appreciate the video then don't watch it. Simple. Not watching videos you don't like is a basic fundamental practice every youtuber should practice.

  • @IllinoisCoyoteHunter You can argue and be an e-warrior all you want but there's a reason you missed then had to shoot a group, then drive all the way down there to verify then make adjustments. Proper fundamentals would allow you to see your shot impact and you can make the necessary adjustments without ever taking your eye off the scope. "Pretending" aside, it's easier and it saves a lot of time. Have fun blowing $40 a day in fuel just driving downrange.

  • @ThrottleJunkie LOL! You have obviously never shot that far with a less than desireable scope. 625 yards with a scope on 18 power and you expect me to see the impact on that 12"x6" target. I dont have a spotting scope. You have no idea what you are talking about. I am no e-warrior. As stated earlier, I don't even claim to be a warrior. I am not military. It is for fun. You shoot that far and then I will watch your videos.

  • @IllinoisCoyoteHunter Oh and last thing.....guys who shoot for fun don't take the time to cook up a "custom handload" for their rifles. All handloads are custom, buddy. That's their sole purpose. Do you know of any factory loaded ammunition made to the exact specs that you took so much time to rattle off to us? Didn't think so. All I'm saying is don't tell us that you do it for fun then try to play Bob Lee Swagger and impress us by rattling off your load data. Make up your mind.

  • @ThrottleJunkie Actually, if you have ever been to any gun show you will find handloads that are not custom. There are a bunch of guys out there that handload for the masses. SO, all handloads are NOT custom. And actually, there is a factory that WILL load ammunition (.308 only right now) with your choice of powder, primer, bullet and OAL. If you are such a guru you need to read your current issue of RIfleman. Not quite sure why you are having a hard time figuring out I do this for fun.

  • @IllinoisCoyoteHunter Hahahahahaha Rifleman! Ok now I concede. You can't argue with stupid. Rifleman is nothing but an avenue for the NRA to get on their soapbox and spit out propaganda. It's a magazine that's designed to generate revenue for the NRA. Ever wonder why they never have anything bad to say in their reviews? Hmmm...sneaky advertising.

  • @ThrottleJunkie Once again, I will shoot how I want to. If you don't like, I don't care.I am not gonna change how I shoot because it is not taught that way in the military. I AM NOT MILITARY. Have a nice day.

  • Nice video. I have .308 but I am looking to buy .243, because I want less kick. How would you compare the kick of .243 to .308 and .223? I also had a saiga in .223, but I had to sell it.

  • this gun cannot even shoot 400 yards

  • @arod24777 You are right. It shoots farther. 625 yards to be exact in this video. Thanks for the comment!

  • my 243 is very accurate and im really good at shooting targets this guy needs to sight in his

  • @cordingc99 Uh-huh.... It is sighted in.

  • LOL, Blackwater t-shirt!

  • i find it hard to shoot over 400 yards. Cant see where the bullet is going and cant see the impact. Friends 7-08 is much better at spotting long range shots.

  • Its all about shot placement. You could kill a bear with 243 if your good enough to put the bullet where it needs to go.

  • @klok95330 actually a 223 or 22-250 my uncle killed a bear with a 22-250 lol

  • 243 without a heavy barrel is crap, cant hit anything

  • @FullBloodedHmoob Gotta be the dumbest words i have ever read. Just cause it is a sporter weight rifle dosent mean that it is inaccurate or shoots any slower. I personally have a sporter weight .243 that is one of my favorite rifles in my collection. I have made fools outta plenty of people with my sporter 243 at 1000 yrds

  • @zsteinle i use to have a savage model 110? "i think" and the barrel was as thin as my pinkie and when i shot it, the recoil was so strong that i couldn't hit anything at 100 yards..........

  • perfect for deer, but not much else.

  • @coin409 what about smaller game, that a larger caliber rifle would be to big for?

  • @Halvorson Maybe some hogs, and maybe birds with a birdshot. But in the the case of covering larger game, a slightly bigger calliber would be ideal.

  • @coin409 birdshot out of a .243 Never herd of it, I guess someone might sell a capsul for reloading, but it wouldn't be effective. But its a good round for groundhogs up onto deer sized game! Thats what my original point was.

  • looks like the .243 is a very flat shooting round fast but a decent sized bullet I like that :) good hunting round

  • @jubbles2343 Ya it is a great round. I use mine for deer, coyote, proghorn, and prairie dogs. You can also use it on wild hogs and ever black bear I just dont hunt them.
