  • i agree with you pal, but maybe that was not the first round...i think

  • crossfit is really hard to do, but what makes it even harder is crossfit with your chuck taylors

  • What the hell was that!?!?!? Humping the pullup bar? Go get a chair to put one foot on while doing proper pullups if you need an assist instead of throwing out your back and shoulders. Sheesh.

  • also saying a kip or a butterfly is a pull up is the same as saying a a jerk in a clean an jerk is a military press, its not its just another move in a whole world of moves in the fitness world

  • they are only hard if you cant do them, if you can do them and you can do normal pull ups you will pick butterfly's any day cos they make it easyer to get up when you in the workout,

  • ooooh no rep no rep no rep his chin dose not go over the bar on his first rep so whole work out void

  • Great video, thumbs up. But I have to thank you for introducing Novadriver into my life.

  • These little fellas are cute...crossfit is like running are marathon, not a lot of people can do it, but not representative of elite athleticism.

  • People who watch these are fucking idiots, on every crossfit video they do kips, its a different kind of pullup not every fucking person is doing it wrong.

  • @SugaaarRush Yes, kips are a differant form of pull up.

A much easier pull up, with little to no practical use outside of advanced gymnastics.

Tell me a benefit of the kipping pull up, vs the standard pull up?

  • @EvilLamas Ok im going to tell you im not complaining about people who understand that this is not a standard pullup, it was aimed at people who thought they were genuinely trying a normal pullup. Also im no fitness expert but i understand what you mean about kips being easier. But look at it this way, hes doing atleast twice the amount of kips he can do other that pullups. A way to keep increase gains in levels of fitness is to increase the tempo, duration or strength of the exercise.

  • @EvilLamas Therefore hes choosing to do more with less strength. If it was building mass i could understand why you would think its dumb, but it also will work a wider range of muscle and a little cardio, these arent meant to be an alternative to standard pullups. Its a different exercise all together.

  • @EvilLamas No practical use? Really? And strict form (lat specific) have a practical application outside bodybuilding or Marine PFT? The perceived EFFORT of kipping is easier, but the output is the same if not greater for a kip, meaning you have lifted the same weight the same distance - with a kip you have probably done it faster, so the power output is actually higher. Benefit - higher power output, much more dynamic and compound movement - involves a dozen more muscles than a strict pullup.

  • @hunrugger A pull up is more useful when climbing a ledge, or anything outside really, the main practical for any pull up in the real world.

  • @EvilLamas You're right, if my life depended on me being able to pull myself up I would make sure my form was correct to isolate the lats and not use a kip or any other method or muscle group, otherwise I'd be cheating.

  • @hunrugger Well it may surprise, you, but a kipping pull up is actually quite hard to do hanging from a wall....

If the fact that it uses more muscles, is reason to call it superior, then do L sit pull ups... or perhaps front lever pull ups? Lots of exercises hit lots of muscles, just not very well, a kipping pull up has it's place- but it's not as a replacement for a proper pull up, and should only be trained after you're alright at real ones.

  • @EvilLamas Hunrugger is very correct. Any climber can tell you a kipping pull up would be a disaster in a natural setting. It would be an injury risk and cause loss of balance. Proper first, then kipping is a great strategy.

  • @theweekender25 I'm the one that said that...

    And I'm a climber too!

Although abonding proper pull ups altogether seems foolish (unless moving on to more advanced movements (which a kip is not)... if you struggle with muscle ups, then kips are good, but not as a replacement for a real muscle up, I'v seen some good stuff done with kips- but it was advanced, one arm muscle up- not something to be supersted with a set of crunches like in crossfit!

  • @EvilLamas I think the real issue here is when you proclaim yourself the "fittest athelete on earth", you need to start cleaning up your form and do some more difficult variety of excercises. By the way the "fittest on earth" moniker is hilarious. I won't even talk about me, but I know 6 or seven guys right now (given they are pro athelets) that could mop the floor with these crossfiters...and yes at one time I have done it!

  • @hunrugger if my life depended on it FREAKIN HILARIUOUUS, dont you realize that's how they sell this whole crossfit marketing stuff!! the fittest... false, functional movements... to prepare me for when my life depends on it? i could go on and on on how they makes this stuff a product and sell it big time, ITS JUST CIRCUITS WITH THE OLDEST MOVEMENTS IN THE BOOK

  • @tuco1213 Don't pigeon hole me, I am not a cult follower. In fact, I hate the product that Crossfit has become. I was CFing when it was not the cool thing to do. I do not prescribe to the WODs and all the hype, but I have found the METHODOLGY (yea, lots of things repackaged) about the closest thing to an "all-in-one" program to follow. My point about life depending on it simply that you will kick and wiggle your way and get over the bar anyway you can rather than depend on strict for.

  • WTF. Wesley Sneijder?

  • 2:09 great way to do a hammy.

  • IonicOverdose~ how can you say that? your looking at crossfit legends that through the eyes of a crossfitter are super human. only a crossfitter can comprehend and understand just how hard these movements are so everyone downing it has no right . sure your bias but don't make incorrect assumptions. I have a great trainer that has kept me from injury for 5 years now.

  • Do crossfit if you want to get injured. These guys have horrible form.

  • horrible "pull ups".

  • @logic63 incompetent guy.. dont speak when u dont know what u talking about

  • i haven t seen any set done the right way in this video.

  • @zamamattiolo not just this video but every crossfit video on youtube.

  • @logic63 i think you are right... sad

  • C'mon guy face it this is just another commercial fail. If someone prefers to lift weights just go and train Olympic Weightlifting and do not waste your time unless you have a great coach. You can get very bad injury.

Just look the guy's back. It is not flat ! When he will be lifting more than 150 kg he will ! have problems with his back

  • What people should be hating on is the guys squatting from their TOES! -.-

  • Sorry to intrude on all the hate but swinging pull-ups are common in explosiveness training like many cross fit wods. In many mma training sessions, fighters are taught to use their momentum to do as many pull ups as possible. When your in a fight, as an example, your goal is to further the momentum of your charges when going for take downs to repeatably be able to throw yourself at your opponent. I know this isnt fight training but theres slow dead-hang style pull ups and those. Dont hate.

  • @Moskau0320 True ... you've made an excellent point

  • @Moskau0320 And I guess chin raised up, below the bar is legit, too? Trash pull-ups.. of course they aren't strict, but they're SUPPOSED to be kipping pull-ups and this guy is swinging. Don't affiliate this guy with MMA training when this guy does pull-ups like trash.

  • Damn those are some hideous pullups. And before you say youd like to see me try I earned my SEAL contract with 31 DEAD HANG perfect form pullups 7 months ago....so lick my ass

  • @YoungAmerikaENT Yeah no one cares what you claim you did or didnt do. Kipping pullups are different from dead hang pullups plain and simple. If the goal is to isolate muscle groups, do dead hangs. If the goal is muscular endurance+cardio, use kipping. CF routinely uses both. Are push presses and push jerks invalid because they arent strict military presses? Didnt think so, just a different goal for the movement, same logic applies. So "lick my ass" retard.

  • And what's with all the hate... "to each their own" train the way that works for you. What most non crossfitters don't understand is (and that is not meant negatively..like I quoted, to each their own) that yes Olympic lifts and other movements have been adopted by crossfit , they have also been adapted to fit the function of the system, so that strength, explosive power and metabolic conditioning can be included in the same work out. So while those of us are coached well focus strongly on f

  • Cindy is 5 10 15 btw..pull ups push ups squats= 1 round

  • the pullups look soo painfull...

  • What's with the stretching @ 2:23?

  • WTF that pullups? It is more like swinging on bar than pull ups

  • @Bazer47 They're called "Butterfly" pullups.. Using the whole body instead of strict Shoulder/Bicep.

  • @Bazer47 hmm you ?

try to do 50 "swinging" pullups, then you'll c its damn hard

    (its called a kip)

  • @Guli1415 Yeah and try to do 50 dead hang pull ups. That's freakin' hard

  • @Bazer47 dude just try and see if u can get a kip on your strict pullups :)

u train your whole body, when u do your kip :)

  • @Guli1415 sure, but I've got some extra weight on my belt on pullups and I really don't want to do any kip with it :)

  • @Guli1415 i'd rather do 5 real pull ups with good form than 1000 of these shitty "swinging/kipping" pull ups.

  • @logic63 who asked you ?

    but damn your awesome ?

  • @Bazer47 its called kipping pull ups.

  • @Bazer47 its called kipping..

  • @Bazer47 the point of it being that in a real life situation you do what you can to pull yourself up, and its still very difficult

  • @Bazer47 I don't think you realize the core strength it takes to do that. It's a pull up, trust me. Do 100 of those for time and let me know how your back and arms feel the next day. They're no joke.

  • @rreay724 yeah and do 100 dead hang pullups with some extra weight on a belt and let me know how your back and arms feel the next day :)

  • @Bazer47 Despite what people say about those pullups, they are extremely hard when you do the amount they do. They are not traditional, but you should try them some time, they are ridiculous.

  • @Bazer47 I agree. Crossfit actually takes sloppy movements as a rep :(

  • Not a full chin up!!!!

  • @stevodunne haha hater

  • @hesspj147 Not a hater just stating a fact, Chinn must be over the bar for a FULL pull up

  • damn that looks really cool

  • i love the beer at 2:16...ya standard thing to do after a workout. do you have any nutrition advice for the general public @egorcheg

  • yikes khalipa's form is trash...if he was at my affiliate his weight would definitely be taken away. sacrificing so much form for getting a better time is everything that is wrong with crossfit. if crossfit hq wants to put up videos, please put up videos that show good form! this is atrocious...

  • @WAdeo07 What's wrong with his form? I'm new to Olympic lifting.

  • @WAdeo07 Khalipa is an elite athlete - if he slows down to do it all 100% properly then his metcons won't be as effective for fitness.

  • Do these guys do isolation trainings??Classic muscle hypertrophie?

  • i think i got it, 5 pull ups 10 push ups and 10 squats.

Holy shit thats amazing i want to try it but i can barely do 8 pull ups for one time and thats it and have no idea if how many time i can clean 155, 5 max i suppose.

Top athletes way better than any pro bodybuilder.

  • @vagvll

lol... Really? Top athletes? There's nothing in any CrossFit workout that a decent high school football player couldn't do after two weeks.

  • @RedWildz Oh really, firstly tell me why alot of the best military special forces and top football teams use crossfit as PT. Tell my why professional football players tested crossfit in 2009,2010 games and finish ten minutes behind legends like mikko salo or foning. Tell me why Salo joins a SEAL team for fun and carries them towards training and laughs after it, you are just a tard. No high school football player can do consistent 450 p deadlifts than jump up to a bar and do 66 clapping pullups

  • @Etrajbe OMG YOUR RIGHT?!?! Because they train for totally different sports.. when on the football field do you EVER 450 power dead lift on the football field? Or JUMP to a bar on the field? haha the answer is YOU DONT. So your "tard" comment has no valid point.

  • @MrOptomisticSocal Not really, the point was just that they ARE in GREAT shape..

  • @RedWildz i am not sure about that, especially in the time that he did it.What i am sure is that any if pro bodybuilder did

a routine like above would suffer a heart attack.

  • how many reps i one cindy

  • What is this workout ?

  • he cleans my 3rm backsquat:) makes me feel great! haha

  • salmon mode pull ups

  • @ricardozs1983 ahaha

  • @vleon1012 I do 25 in 48 minutes...

  • Puerto Rico Flag =)

  • Will the real slim shady please stand up!!! 4:39

  • dude these pull ups are hysterical haha

  • @michaelromagnolijr they do look funny, but they drive up the intensity of the workout exponentially

  • @toggibson Only for heartrate I'd imagine. It definitely doesn't breakdown muscle more. They prolly do it to maximize efficiency of reps and save on strength and energy??

  • @toggibson Only for heartrate I'd imagine. It definitely doesn't breakdown muscle more. They prolly do it to maximize efficiency of reps and save on strength and energy??

  • @michaelromagnolijr Yeah you pretty much said it

  • @toggibson Exponentially!!! WTF? do you even know what the word means?

exponentially (comparative more exponentially, superlative most exponentially) 1.Growing or decaying in an exponential manner. The use of this word to mean rapidly is incorrect.

  • @stevodunne Chin must reach the bar or go over for a full chin up! He looks like a towel blowing on a wash line

  • @stevodunne You're right. Sorry

  • IIs not this video but 1.59 in the background how bad woman is exercising, what she is doing? hanging seizures? ha ha..

    Sorry for my english

  • i want to start cross fit but that one guy had so much kip in his pull ups they wouldnt even be doing anything

  • @SouthernSurvivalTX those pulls are supposed to incorporate kipping. they're cardio based, and they're meant to help you increase your dead hang pull ups. do some research before you sound like an idiot

  • he did that whole thing in converse..

  • @thetwinkieguy wearing converse is a powerlifting thing, has nothing to do with doing crossfit

  • He seems to be a very Zen guy.

  • Hey guys, im doing this exercise tomorrow..

is one round of cindy : 10 pullsups,10pushups and 10squats?

  • @m3g1 5 pull ups, 10 push ups, 15 squats

  • how come in every crossfit video, the pullups they do seems so supported by momentum.. is there an advantage to this type of pull up compared to a standard pull up where your not swinging?

  • @novatitans30 the kip pullup or momentum pullup's biggest advantage is speed and intensity. The normal pullup (which is known as a deadlift) is much more tiring than the kip and therefore you can't do as many. Most fit guys will stop around 10-15 deadlifts. If you use momentum to pull yourself up, you can keep your heart rate up and still increase your strength at the same time. It pretty much means you can keep going for longer and you will get stronger and fitter.

  • @QQlikecrazy wow...deadlift. education is key. Its dead hang or strict pullup. You need to google deadlift. and probably pull this post off so you arent as embarassed as you should be.

  • @bnewton10 yeah sorry deadlift is something else my bad i just couldnt remember what a dead pullup is called...

  • did this with 135 the other day. took me like 30 mins

  • damn that guy is beast

  • i did this work out today and its feckin hard has hell

  • What is CINDY?

  • ha ha this shit looks retarded not saying its easy just sayin its retarted

  • @ngrooms5157 You want functional movement? Here it is: I can do a Muscle up in a WOD and Dyno from an overhang while rock climbing . Oh yeah, that needs an explosive hip opening to create power, thats a Kip. I can Dead lift 400 lbs and I can move a wheel barrow with 350 lbs of retaining wall blocks 200 m up an hill in my yard.I can do 400m sprints combo'd with C&J's at 165 lbs and guess what? As a lifeguard I can sprint swim to a victim and haul them to shore. Thats Functional movement, son.

  • What's with the circular pull ups?

  • @KenMacMillan its called a butterfly kip. Very similar to a gymnastics kip but more efficient because it only requires one hip open/close versus two in the regular kip. It is used in high volume pull up workouts to create a cardiovascular demand that you do not get from a strict pull up. It does not, however, replace strict pull ups, it is just a variation.

  • @Codygauer Thanks, I never seen it before.

  • @KenMacMillan -No problem. Its a fairly unique movement and a lot harder than it looks!

  • this shows i need to go to crossfit more often -__-

  • My WOD for tomorrow: This exercise but subbing the Clean/Jerk for Hang Power Cleans. Its gonna be AWESOME

  • i never seen that sit up excersise b4 were the guys in the background on the floor, he crunche up goes back and then his legs come up, so hes doing upper and lower abs and i like his leg cross overs for obliques, im gona try this out, thanks for a great vid.

  • beer isnt paleo

  • alot of crossfit haters out there...

  • what kind of watch is that at the end

  • Don't drop your barbell - lazy and dangerous; unless you've just set an Olympic record.

  • @marcusbondi Dropping the bar saves you energy and time. Also, lowering it is far more dangerous for your back than dropping it... learn to lift, and THEN talk, son

  • @gbrenner Hi GB! You've obviously never trained in an Olympic weightlifting gym. If you don't have the strength & technique to lower it, you shouldn't be picking it up; unless you are a try-hard poser. BTW, I am the most qualified person you have ever encountered when it comes to lifting. 3 current Official Guinness World Records in strength; how many you got? I train UFC fighters, Olympic wrestlers & Marines & Special Forces. Learn to research, then shoot off at the mouth. Cheers bro.

  • @marcusbondi Obviously never heard of you till now... I'm a former decathlon national record holder in Chile; I've got my share of years training at olympic facilities BRO.

  • @gbrenner Chile? WOW! How many medals do Chile win at the Olympics? Now it looks like you are some sort of alcohol drinking champion. Congrats, dude!

  • @marcusbondi You train your mouth pretty well. Stop talking shit and post a vid if you are what you say you are......but you're not.

  • @LunchtimeLoonies Pls check my vids; I have set 3 Official Guinness World Bodyweight Records. I smashed Olympic gymnasts and Chinese State Acrobats and Special Forces Teams. I even do 6 one-arm pull ups while reading a magazine, juts for fun, and I weigh 185lbs. When you are ready to go to the highest level, if you dare, and I will send you a FREE starter guide of my World Record Training Program. Best regards.

  • @marcusbondi I just checked back through all of the comments and can pretty much say I must have been wanting to reply to somebody different! Sorry mate. Still interested in your world record training program though!

  • @LunchtimeLoonies totally cool, sure thing = pls message me & I'll fly it thru. Cheers

  • workin out in converse. aww yeah.

  • crossfit = working on your weaknesses...nice definition ;)

  • @WerSeidIhrDenn Crossfit = doing something no one cares about... Specialize in your weightlifting.

  • that was the ugliest pull up form i have ever seen in my life, usage of momentum, lifting your chin so high up that even the slightest lift counts as one, dont even call it a pull up. swing up would be a good term.

  • @Wgx5 It's called a kipping pull up. It works on building explosive strength. Fix your linear mindset.

  • Comment removed

  • I am not saying crossfit is not tough, because it is. Both of these guys are studs. But I am beginning to think their pull up form is gonna really mess up their backs in the long run. A lot of jerking and a lot of weight on the shoulder joints. But these guys are nuts.

  • that pull up form is working their core and hip....which a regular pull up does not. pretty sure these guys backs have enough support to be fine.....

  • @jrock0624 If you watch Chris closely you'll notice that he keeps really tight core engagement to prevent hyper extension of the lumbar. That, combined with constantly active shoulder engagement protects the shoulders and back from any type of harmful loading. That being said, there are plenty of people out there who don't have the discipline to keep that core engagement when they attempt these movements and they WILL fry their backs.

  • EVERYONE tries to make Khalipa talk shit about his competitors! But Khalipa is one of the most HUMBLE guys you'll ever meet.

  • @EeeScape Absolutely agree. Khalipa is a class act all the way. Spealler is a freak and a great guy as well.

  • Что за злоебучие подтягивания ???!?

Мы так даже в школе не подтягивались!!!!!11

  • @ChrisDsnuts97 more like "mother of GOD!" hahaha

  • i want to learn butterfly pull ups! BAD!

  • LMAO is the dude in red hoodie and beenie having a beer!?

  • speal's squats lacked full range of motion. hips and knees must open at the top of the movement. I think the Bearilla had this if you consider virtuosity of movement.

  • Daaaaamn.

I did this workout yesterday ... Spealer is insanely faster than me!!!

    Still - it's a target.

  • I love when everyone argues against CF with whatever BS. Some of the most fit Mo-Fo's on the planet do crossfit. Don't believe me? Ask almost any PJ, Ranger, SAS, or SEAL. This whole argument reminds me of peoples' opinion of weed in America: a huge chunk of the population does it, people are undereducated about it and intimidated by it, and it's growing (FAST) in popularity. Don't knock it till you try it! ; )

  • Comment removed

  • He looks like Georges St-Pierre..

  • speal comes across as kind of a jerk

  • @dallasgangsta187 I had Speal as a trainer at a recent CrossFit Cert and he is anything but a jerk he is extremely down to earth and as good a trainer as he is athlete. It is one of the things I love about the CrossFit community I have yet to meet a top crossfitter who is a jerk, and I have judged two regional comps.

  • nice

  • OH boy people really dont understand what crossfit is. It is literally just fitness COMMEN SENSE! It is putting a word to what we as human beings should be doing to remain or become all around physically fit. this like all other training has levels, but all crossfit is,is a combination of all the necessary aspects of physical maintenance. A 50 year old obese woman may not do box squats but she will hop on a small base or hop very close to the ground and then she might jog but not sprint. GET IT

  • Holy shit, I am working extremely hard on my fitness, but when I see these guys it becomes almost de-motivating because these guys are simply beyond incredible!!

  • @6:56 Thats just scary about the little...crazy...guy! lol Speal is an animal! Cant wait for games 2011 Ill be there. 2010 was legit!

  • Jesus Christ, so many wankers at one place!

  • Great video. I used to be a globo gym nazi. Concentrate on this muscle then concentrate on that muscle etc. What a waste. All you gain is size, that doesn't do anything for you in the real world but make you think you're a badass. I have been doing CrossFit for one month now. I'm hooked. I feel better and am stronger than ever. The only people talking shit are those that haven't tried it. Trust me it will humble you. Most Crossfit gyms have a free workout. Try it. Then you can legitimately bitch

  • Crossfit actually provides several definitions for the term functional so I suppose the word can cause some confusion however here is one that might clear things up Functional: a movement that can be seen outside the gym. In other words something that is directly translatable to real-life situations. If you just ran for you life and had to pull your self up a tree branch would you do a strict, dead hang pull-up? Maybe, but more likely what was expressed would be closer to a kip.

  • Reading these comments make me laugh. Kip, no Kip. You still get a workout. There are CF workouts that call for deadhang/strict Pullups. Don't knock it til you try it. I've been crossfitting for a year and I'm in the best shape of my life. It's funny also to see these "muscle" magazines post very Crossfit-like workouts including Tabata and others. Look, you can't talk til you try it. CF gyms are growing around the country for a reason! It works! PS: there are also strength segments of

  • What ever you want to think, both these guys are awsome. If you're anal about squat cleans I'm pretty sure these guys do them as well. Its just a diff mode of getting the weight up, focusing alot more on the pull phase than on the catch phase. if you can pull the weight higher its easier to catch its all helpful to improving your clean.

  • I wish i was Jason Spealer strong.

  • I wanna be Chris Spealler strong.

  • I'm afriad they're confused with what a "clean" is... not sure wtf the dude in the front was doing. A CLEAN is a full squat, not just throwing the bar into the air and just catching it. Basically what they're doing is some form of a power clean (a shitty one at that) and a push press. Another prime example of the phaggotry that is crossfit.

  • @NTStrength Wow, way to pick apart terminology in order to criticize the workout. If they wanted to do a squat clean then they would have said squat clean. Another example of a narrow minded outsider who is afraid of CrossFit and therefore will probably never try it. You should really step outside your comfort zone and try a CrossFit workout...it will show you how in shape you really are

  • @EPLchelseafc again, you're an idiot...a CLEAN is a pull from the ground with a full front squat...I advise you to step outside your comfort zone and perform 20 minutes of non stop jumping jacks to see how in shape you really are.

  • @NTStrength and the others criticizing the workout, have you ever heard of muscle imbalances? That's what occurs when all you do is pick up heavy shit in the weight room and target single muscle groups. Crossfit works your whole body, often naturally with body weight, hence improving "functionality." Doing pullups like this feels easier because you're maximizing your muscle group usage the way your body wants to. And jumping jacks for 20 min? Really? Try 5 hours of burpees. Or an ironman.

  • @NTStrength HAHAHA 20 minutes of jumping jacks?? That is the most intense workout you could think of? You should really give CrossFit a try if that is something that you would consider to be a good test of fitness.

  • @NTStrength that guy you're talking about-- chris spealler-- walked into an olympic lifting competition and ended up with one of the top 3 totals for his weight division that USAW had that year. secondly, anyone who simply says 'faggot' derivatives toward anything he doesn't like is probably homophobic, and thus scared of his own sexual secret.

  • @NTStrength According the the IWF definition, a clean does not in any way require a full squat. Obviously a "Squat clean" does. so before you get on your high horse about weightlifting semantics, inform yourself.

  • Can someone explain why they do their pull ups like that? Not even CLOSE to full ROM, can hardly be considered a pull up... But I could be wrong about it

  • @Mikemaladar They do pull ups like that because they doing kipping pull ups. It's like normal push ups and diamond push ups
