Last night while i listened to this music,i was thinking of Rooney Mara(not Lisbeth). Don`t get me wrong - i watched Once upon a time in the west hundred times and Claudia Cardinale is in my top 5 beautiful actresses of all time, but my romantic fantasy allowed me to imagine myself as Cheyenne(my favorite character in movie) and Rooney as Jill. I know that this have no much sense at all , but i was touched by this song.
This is beautiful, the switching of the melody lines between the instruments and the soprano coming into the background to add and ethereal effect is just absolutely amazing and astonishing to listen to. Music like this is what makes music all the more amazing and interesting to listen to and to engage you to want to learn more.
You know, Jill, you remind me of my mother. She was the biggest whore in Alameda and the finest woman that ever lived. Whoever my father was for an hour or for a month... he must have been a happy man.
once upon a time there were violins and french horns and a director who gave a beautiful song a meaning of hope and love with the happiness and promise of a new town in the west, thanx Morricone.
Without words this music manages to still convey such strong emotional feeling. Morricone is on the same level as any of the very best all time classical composers
My all time favorite song, ...nothing will ever compare to it...Ennio Morricone has such an ability to really move you with his melodic intuition! Mary C Giacobbe
PS I am lucky to have had a father that turned me onto Ennio morricone's music..God bless him!
Edda Dell'Orso's voice in the movie was definitely something amazing, especially with that scene at the beginning as they're going though the valleys. you can't beat it.
@FelixDanno --isn't this extraordinary? I love music so much (and all kinds of music...Rob Zombie to Connie Francis..lol! This is just so gorgeous--and after a Bruce Springsteen concert in Connecticut (where I live) they played this while everyone was filing out of the venue and I went bananas and no one knew what this music was.....saddened me!!!! LOL! All the best!
@SHRINA17 that is cause music today sucks, thinking back, music sucked in the 90's too, only a few good musicians back then and today are worth anything, rest are talentless bums.
This is one of the best pieces of music i ever heard, and i heard a LOT of music :)
I loved this song since i heard it on a cd of my father when i was...oh...7 or 8 years old. He loved this film and i always become sad when i hear this...but its still beautifull peacefull :)
Only heard this a few times my dad always goes on about this film, but i've never seen it. Had this played at my moms funeral in june 2010 and it brings me to tears everytime i hear it. Its a very sad and emotional piece but great.
I do have the original sountrack CD of this but i haven't watch this movie yet, I only heard this few years ago and ordered a copy because i like this kind of instrumental musics....
I do have the original sountrack CD of this but i haven't watch this movie yet, I only heard this few years ago and ordered a copy because i like this kind of instrumental musics....
By far the most superbly conducted piece of orchestra music ever. Once again, the Italians have brought forth an artist composer, Ennio Morricone, in the same vane of talents as with all famous Italian artists- Leonardo DeVinci, etc. The Italians live in the cradle of civilization; their blood so rich in artistic talents. Their composers, their automobile designers, their artists, and lest we not forget Rome where the Roman Empire once ruled the world. The Italian influence is second to none.
When I watch the film or play this music I just drift away into my own world, the acting is superb, Jason Robards surpassed himself, the best I have ever seen this fantastic actor, Ennio Morricone's music will live for ever.
Thank you for sharing this music. I watched this movie yesterday and again today and I wondered if I could listen to the complete music piece. Oh it s so gorgeous and if I should marry I would like this played at my wedding :)
This is one of my all time favorites by Ennio Morricone. So beautiful it almost hurts. If this music doesn't move you, you have no soul. Ennio is one of the greatest composers of our time.
this is a great movie and haunting music wonderful ending .i really love and don't usually watch a movie twice but i have watched this many times and see some thing new every time .thanks for posting this movie.
No, 19 people that pressed UNLIKE buttons are idiots. Ennio Morricone, my father almost cried watching movies with His music, I almost cry watching movies with His music, and listening to His music makes me wonder and awe.... there is no better compositor in this space and time. And probably beyond. And i am also drunk. :) Notice the usage of "Him", He is a God of music.
I saw this film for the first time when I was 8, and can still remember like it was yesterday... And still today it is one of me favorites. 23 years ago I fell in love with Ennio Morricone's music. Thanks to him great movies become masterpieces!!!
A phenomenal piece of music, perfectly mated to one of best westerns ever filmed (THE best in my opinion). It pierces the soul of any music lover, regardless of age. The actors have passed on but this music will endure forever.
A great chorale with the theme from one of the all time great westerns. Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, and other great stars when they were much younger. Morricone's music is absolutely fabulous!

"i saw 3 of these dusters a short time ago, they were waiting for a train, inside the dusters there were 3 men (drinks water slowly then looks up) inside the men there were 3 bullets" epic line.. masterpiece... by the way this piece is just so awesome esp when she starts singing @ 1.14 - makes time stand still momentarily...
