It's sad it has come to this point. 9/11 was an absolute win for whoever pulled it off.
This issue is currently before the supreme court right now (Jones v. US), hopefully they will overturn this Orwellian ideal of tracking anything you take into public is traceable by the government.
I wonder what will happen if you find the device and destroy it. You'll probably get charged for destruction of government property and detained indefinitely as a terrorist.
I wonder if they'll get to the point where, with all of us having GPS on our phones, that when serious crimes are commited, anybody in that area with their smart phone is a suspect.
There's such an incredible difference between being in public and being a legitimate target for full out tracing and surveillance...

Following someone around and blogging their position, or setting up a stationary camera taking photos at the same spot at regular intervals is illegal, or requires permission. The same rules basically applies to the police too...
@SHEEPLEwhisperer Denial is everywhere. Read timesplitters333's comment above. A perfect example of the character, Tom Parsons, in George Orwell's 1984. @timesplitters333 Look, I'm not going to fall for your simple-minded approach to "freedom." Nor will I be pushed in that direction so you can play some lawyer's word games with me. To insist that "freedom" is a function of one person's experience is STUPID. I think I explained my position more than adequately. Either you're trolling or just hopelessly brainwashed. @mecher3k naw son. that there is called states rights. 90% of the states won't vote to make abortion illegal anyway. if 1 or2 states does then the people in that state would have to travel a few hours out of state. this would affect less than 2% of the population. i would not vote to make abortion illegal.
I don't know why Cenk doesn't advocate this guy... bitch about infringements on the constitution, bitch about Obama not sticking to what he said. I'm VERY curious exactly WHAT Cenk thinks are the "disastrous" policies of Ron Paul. I know this is generally a progressive program, but in a LOT of ways, the fiscal conservative libertarian running IS the most progressive candidate running... and Obama shit all over the last vote I cast for him, starting with public option
@JonnyBoy241 I watch every video TYT puts out, have for years... but Cenk has reservations about Ron Paul with some of his "disastrous policies", and I'm curious which ones he thinks are so disastrous? I honestly would rather vote Paul over Obama and I'm generally a democratic voter... but I don't blindly vote any way just because, and Obama's not what he made himself out to be, at all... I firmly believe Paul would be
@yzeone Ron Paul is Anti-Choice, against Gay marriage, and his economic policies are questionable. Those are probable the start of Ron Paul's "disastrous policies".
@treysparker Ron Paul wants Marriage to be a church and/or state decided. Problem is, 1) not everyone who gets married is religious. 2) if there are conflicting state laws, how do you determine where a marriage is valid within states in the same country?
If his economic policies were questionable then he wouldnt have been able to warn of the collapse back in 2006, explaining in perfect detail how, why, and what would happen while all others laughed at the idea.
His economic policies would have prevented a collapse from happening in the first place. He would have prevented the bubble from ever occurring. Without a bubble there is no bust. Do some research before embarrassing yourself.
@treysparker just because you are able to predict the collapse of the economy does not mean you are infallible as an economic figure. He is only more right in certain areas of his economic ideas.
btw, you failed to mention his anti-choice position on Roe vs Wade. It's a very important issue, and he's on the wrong side.
@Orpheus1356 except for the fact that he isn't anti-choice, leaves that to the states... he's against government being involved in marriage period, leaves that up to states... and Austrian economics is basically the backing of our dollar with gold so the value doesn't fluctuate, instead of a FED that buys up loans and assets that sometimes fail or don't get paid back... basically gambling with the value of the dollar instead of having a stable value
@yzeone 1) anti-choice is an abortion stance. I just dont like to say "pro-life". check his site if you don't believe me. 2) Marriage HAS to be a federal government issue to avoid recognition issues between states. He's taking the easy way out of that question by saying it should be a state issue. problem is, it an't be a state issue. 3) I said his economic policies were "questionable" aka subject to scrutiny. there are arguments for and against the gold standard. I never said he was wrong.
@Orpheus1356 I've heard him answer the question on abortion several times in debates... he isn't pro-life, period... he says the federal government has no right to impose a single idea concerning a controversial topic on a whole country. he isn't necessarily "pro-choice", he's pro-state-choice... he says government shouldn't be involved in marriage, as it's a religious issue and churches should be free to marry anyone they like... sorry if u think that won't work, but its his stance
@yzeone 1) Lol If you don't believe me, please explain to me why it says "Pro-Life Champion" on his website
2) What about non-religious people who want to get married? Do they have to become religious and go to a church for that service?
3) If his stance is to dismiss it because he feels it is a state issue when it's not, he's ignorant. One way or another, if he enters office, it will be an issue has has to address on a federal level.
@Demov12 no i live in kansas city, and everyone says that they are going to stop the wars but it never happens, why would we want a old man that wants to dictates other peoples lives, i would want someone that can rule by the people
There is an easy way for the average person to sweep their belongings for spy devices like this and it isn't expensive. You buy a common voltage toner. this device usually comes in two pieces. One end has a small battery in it and is hooked to the wire you want to find, and the other end has a small speaker in it and picks up electrical currents as you sweep. To use this in a car or office, simply turn off power, and sweep the area using the detection end. Anything with power will show up.
When America falls, many thought it will be cool now but it will be anarchy when it did happen. There would also major power in the world, and for now, I cannot see any nations that could potentially behave better than US of A.
I should also noted nations that could potentially surpass US in strength in 20-30 years. Countries like Canada, Finland...etc might have great laws and people, but our population and industrial capacity suppressed USA and became a major power in the near future is next to impossible.
thing is, most people aren't noticing their liberties being slowly taken away... you do things slowly and people conform, if you force something on people, they'll flip... you guys better take your kids somewhere else to raise them.. police state is here already.. wake the fuck up people.
There will be no repercussions even if caught putting the GPS tracking without Warrants if those running the government think it is of national interest. Remembered My Lai, while the soldiers involved is clearly and knowingly violating Geneva conventions, all they received is minimal jail sentence. The only difference it make now is no ppl in talk shows will say FBI's actions are illegal.
In Johnson County in Indiana, there was legislation passed semi-recently (roughly a year ago) that made warrantless searches of private property (cars, homes, etc.) legal. Not only is this the most grievous denial of basic rights given by the Constitution, but no one is up in arms. Furthermore, I would not be surprised if a single one of you have heard of this.
Are freedoms are slowly being stripped away from us.
THEY DIDN'T PASS THE NORTH AMERCIAN DEFENSE ACT 93-7 FOR NOTHING. THEY KNOW THE FREEDUMB MONKEYS ARE WAKING UP, THERE WILL BE CONCENTRATION CAMPS FOR PROTESTORS IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS IN THE USA.
There is no reasonable expectation to privacy in a public place - U.S. v. Katz. Although Katz set up the test for a reasonable expectation of privacy for future cases. Also see U.S. v. Leroy Knotts, U.S. v. Olmstead and U.S. v. Antoine Jones for a history of where this precedent came from.
@snowbaordguru As long as the GPS device is not hardwired into the electrical system, or placed in the interior cabin or cargo space of the vehicle, it is no subject to a warrant. The courts have ruled that the outsides, including the undercarriage of vehicles are not subject to the 4th Amendment and it's definition of a search, and thus does not require the authorization of a warrant, nor the oversight of an impartial magistrate.
Last semester my Constitutional Law paper was on this subject.
@mykmmc Nope. Remember that guy who found cameras in his property and he took them down then he tried to sue the cops because they didnt ask him to put it there because they were spying or something then the cops sued him for interrupting the case and stealing from the cops.
I personally don't give a crap about all this stuff. Our rights are gone, and we aren't gunna get them back. So, I don't care if they are tracking me because I have NOTHING bad against me. So it doesn't apply to me.
America is like Charlie Sheen... ya'll think you're 'winning' when in fact you're failing hard. WAKE THE FUCK UP. Have a revolution or something, hit the reset button, wtf is all this shit. Every day the Young Turks talks about violations of the constitutions... sigh. Just, sigh.
Further what does this look like to Europeans? We are attacked, rather brutally I'll grant, by terrorists...and 11 years later we are slowly becoming a paranoid and ever mistrustful of everyone all the time police state. What do you Europeans think of this response?
absolutely, the Constitution doesn't mean shit anymore. You said something bad about Bush? 50 years in jail! You want to grow your own food? Maximum punishment!
Just a note to all: "The Asian guy" has a name. He's also been on TYT numerous times before. His name is Steve Oh. Names of people talking in the videos are mentioned in the notes below the videos.
I find this as disturbing as TYT, but to my non-lawyer's mind, it sounds legal. It's not a search. It's not a seizure. A warrant isn't required to investigate and follow someone (in even a perfect civil liberties world) - and this is just the electronic version of doing that. As the judge said, there's no expectation of privacy when driving in public.
I don't like it, but it doesn't sound unconsitutional in detail, even though it obviously is in spirit.
@quantumcodex It really is not an infringement of civil liberty, though I hadn't given much thought to property rights. I suppose if it becomes illegal to remove (or otherwise render moot) the device, I will secede my argument to you.
That judge will hate this ruling when his car, which is in the public domain, suddenly collects plethera bumper stickers reading things like "Totalitarian on board" and "Fuck Freedom." What a d-bag.
Yeafh there is no difference between mainstream republicans and democrats or Republicrats as they should be all called! Ron Paul is the only guy who will protect civil liberties! Ron Paul 2012!
If it WAS a national security issue, it still wouldn't be okay. The government is giving themselves more and more permission to break the rules of our nation, and it's the people's job to rise up and stop them. If you find a GPS tracker on your car, chuck it in the trash and start packing heat. When an FBI agent asks for the tracking piece back, ice them.
@ranth44 Aye. It's not pretty or ideal, but if it comes right down to it we've got to protect the freedom of this country from domestic enemies who seek to cripple or destroy our way of life. All those brave men and women who fight and die to protect this countries freedom, my grandfather and brother included, will have died in vain if we let this country be destroyed and enslaved from within.
So does this mean I can put GPS tracking devices on anyones car since they're in public domain?

If his economic policies were questionable then he wouldnt have been able to warn of the collapse back in 2006, explaining in perfect detail how, why, and what would happen while all others laughed at the idea.
His economic policies would have prevented a collapse from happening in the first place. He would have prevented the bubble from ever occurring. Without a bubble there is no bust. Do some research before embarrassing yourself.
treysparker 1 month ago in playlist Uploaded videos
@treysparker just because you are able to predict the collapse of the economy does not mean you are infallible as an economic figure. He is only more right in certain areas of his economic ideas.
btw, you failed to mention his anti-choice position on Roe vs Wade. It's a very important issue, and he's on the wrong side.
Orpheus1356 1 month ago
@Orpheus1356 except for the fact that he isn't anti-choice, leaves that to the states... he's against government being involved in marriage period, leaves that up to states... and Austrian economics is basically the backing of our dollar with gold so the value doesn't fluctuate, instead of a FED that buys up loans and assets that sometimes fail or don't get paid back... basically gambling with the value of the dollar instead of having a stable value
yzeone 1 month ago
@yzeone 1) anti-choice is an abortion stance. I just dont like to say "pro-life". check his site if you don't believe me. 2) Marriage HAS to be a federal government issue to avoid recognition issues between states. He's taking the easy way out of that question by saying it should be a state issue. problem is, it an't be a state issue. 3) I said his economic policies were "questionable" aka subject to scrutiny. there are arguments for and against the gold standard. I never said he was wrong.
Orpheus1356 1 month ago
@Orpheus1356 I've heard him answer the question on abortion several times in debates... he isn't pro-life, period... he says the federal government has no right to impose a single idea concerning a controversial topic on a whole country. he isn't necessarily "pro-choice", he's pro-state-choice... he says government shouldn't be involved in marriage, as it's a religious issue and churches should be free to marry anyone they like... sorry if u think that won't work, but its his stance
yzeone 1 month ago
@yzeone 1) Lol If you don't believe me, please explain to me why it says "Pro-Life Champion" on his website
2) What about non-religious people who want to get married? Do they have to become religious and go to a church for that service?
3) If his stance is to dismiss it because he feels it is a state issue when it's not, he's ignorant. One way or another, if he enters office, it will be an issue has has to address on a federal level.

@latinlover62 30 years? that's a long time, it's going to fall apart much quicker than that.

@latinlover62
I should also noted nations that could potentially surpass US in strength in 20-30 years. Countries like Canada, Finland...etc might have great laws and people, but our population and industrial capacity suppressed USA and became a major power in the near future is next to impossible.

There is no reasonable expectation to privacy in a public place - U.S. v. Katz. Although Katz set up the test for a reasonable expectation of privacy for future cases. Also see U.S. v. Leroy Knotts, U.S. v. Olmstead and U.S. v. Antoine Jones for a history of where this precedent came from.
snowbaordguru 1 month ago
@snowbaordguru As long as the GPS device is not hardwired into the electrical system, or placed in the interior cabin or cargo space of the vehicle, it is no subject to a warrant. The courts have ruled that the outsides, including the undercarriage of vehicles are not subject to the 4th Amendment and it's definition of a search, and thus does not require the authorization of a warrant, nor the oversight of an impartial magistrate.
Last semester my Constitutional Law paper was on this subject.

nutsandbabybutts 1 month ago
I find this as disturbing as TYT, but to my non-lawyer's mind, it sounds legal. It's not a search. It's not a seizure. A warrant isn't required to investigate and follow someone (in even a perfect civil liberties world) - and this is just the electronic version of doing that. As the judge said, there's no expectation of privacy when driving in public.
I don't like it, but it doesn't sound unconsitutional in detail, even though it obviously is in spirit.
