Sadly the Republicans who are majority coltroled by old White Southerners NEVER had any intentions on working with Pres. Oboma. As a White American (yes I am a Liberal Dem) I was very proud to see our 1st Black American President in my life time. Sadly though when Oboma needed these same empowered and enlightened voters to help keep the Dems in power in the Mid Term Elections these same people were NOT turning out at the poles. Conservatives want to see this President FAIL at ALL costs sadly.
what makes a person black is not of there actions rather it be good or bad..what makes a person black is there high pigmentation color or melanin in there skin(Dark,Brown,Red etc.)..thats all..so Barack is Black. do to his appearance and skin color.i dont really care that he is or not. im neutral. I love everyone of all races..and I love different cultures from Europe,Africa,Middle East,Asia islanders,
So, because you consider Obama's level of pigmentation to be high (dark African's in the Congo would greatly differ on that opinion, btw) does his high pigmentation also make his white mother black? if it doesn't, then there's something very wrong with your logic. think about it. being biracial isn't about YOUR perceptions, it's about REALITY and being true to yourself. In other words, the reality is that Obama is half black and half white, hence he is biracial - not black.
@MustNotRead maybee my logic is wrong..ok but to say he is not black is incorrect.thats like saying he not black at all..he is Black and he is also white..but he has high black blood in him due to his appearance..so he is more black than white..and he is more black african more than me..because his father is pure Black..the man goes by African american that means Black when it comes to a person of color like him...he black and white..but hes more black than white..but hes Black man =)
well, the way chromosome work means that he has no more "black blood" than he has "white blood". he will have exactly one chromosome from his mother and one from his father. and you can clearly see this if you look at him with an open mind free from the one-drop rule rubbish. i do not see why Obama has any more right to call himself "black" than he has to call himself "white".
but i understand what you are saying and i know why you think this way. but it's wrong. the reason you see Obama as black is because of the old one-drop rule. you tell me how the girl in this video looks any more black than she looks white? look at her. she looks exactly what she is. she has many features which are black and also many features which are white. but "the rule" say she is "black", so for generations people see girls like her and simply call her black. The same with Obama.
@MustNotRead ok when people are biracial there black and white..soo thats it. your right you cant really put people in a box of just one thing..so this girl obama are black and white which makes them biracial..one drop rule created by racist men and i dont agree with that..they created that one drop to sepereate anybody with black blood from whites..they didnt want nobody in there soceity who is not pure white..that one drop is a racist rule..so i dont agree with that..
Obama is half black and half white. He has no past slave blood in his veins.
His father abondned him, his white grandparents raised him.
2. There are white African-Americans
3. Knowing that there are many mothers who are not always sure who the fathers of their babies are; how many times would you think that 1/2 brothers and sisters are having babies and maybe even through several generations?
The faminist are backed by the same people who ALLOWED Obama to be president. The super wealthy have ruled America for decades so I'm not in love with our political system. We have a big fight on our hands and Obama is just Bush noir.
Before Bush there was embryonic stem cell research, but no federal funding of it. Libs wanted public funding, but many people opposed the idea of destroying embryos for experiments. Bush's compromise was to fund the science, but only using cloned cells from embryos that had already been destroyed long ago. His approach was considerate of all people's concerns.
Obama reveresed this and now all people will pay for (participate in) destroying embryos whether they agree or not.
Wrong. Bush banned all cloning procedures. What he did was restricted funding to just research on already existing cell lines, which are very few and far between, and the question was who would own and control these lines. It's not enough, and his decision really didn't make anyone happy, cons. or lib. Either it was too restrictive or not restrictive enough. Well, everyone can't be happy, but what is important is focusing on the real issue: what it would mean if we discover a use for stem cells.
No, you're wrong. Bush didn't ban anything. All stem cell research is and has been legal. He simply would not give public funds for destroying new embryos. Public funds could be used for research done using the existing lines and their clones.
Although no one got all that they wanted it was a considerate compromise. Much better than Obama's policy of giving 1/2 the country the middle finger.
I meant restricted it to private funding, etc., and therefore narrowed research possibilities. "Bush has ruled out funding for research, and the House passed a bill banning all cloning procedures." - Time
I suppose they were refering to cloning people or embryos as opposed to stem cells. I don't know because I didn't read it. But stem cells could be cloned. Bush was the first President to fund it, so if he was radical then Clinton was even worse.
Everybody seems hung up on their own personal morals. But they forget what stem cells could mean for the, up to this point, incurably ill. Where is the moral in preventing us from finding possible treatments for the sick and dying for the sake of saving a week old embryo (harsh, but true)?
You just made a moral argument in favor of stem cell research....so I guess you're hung up on your own personal morals.
There is nothing stopping people who feel the way you do from donating money towards this kind of research....but the government should not force this on the large number of people who profoundly disagree on moral and ethical grounds.
Haha I guess I'm a big fat hypocrite! But I'm not president. Our president shouldn't make decisions on something like stem cell research, which could ultimately save lives, based on his own, and his supporters', moral beliefs. I can believe what I want morally, as can you, but as president, HE must make decisions which are ultimately beneficial to those it affects most. That's what our government is supposed to do.
True, but considering the countless different opinions present in this country, is it plausible to say "Well, i would pass this, but SOME people may find it morally wrong?" Respecting someone's beliefs is not the same as complying with them; just because I respect you as a conservative does not mean that I must agree with them and act according to them.
I agree insofar as you can't please everyone, and if the government held back everytime anyone had a complaint it couldn't function. But it is a large portion of the population that finds this to be a serious ethical problem, and I think Bush's solution was a reasonable one.
...but, you and I are not going to agree on this. So let's agree to disagree.
It doesn't surprise me that the conservative minded at your school were respectful, unlike liberals have been.
...and your insistance that the rest of us should put our beliefs and partisanship aside now that a member of your party has been elected doesn't surprise me either. It's very convenient for the libs. No doubt you will change your mind about unity and respect the next time the other party wins.
When I said respectful, I meant in contrast to normal behavior and attitudes towards Barack Obama and liberals (like you are displaying). Normally, when not in a school assembly surrounded by teachers, people are not so respectful. Conservatives and liberals all have the right to feel the way they do, and to be open about that. I was just noting that, in light of the event, it was kind of a nice moment. Being used to hostility from conservatives at my school, I was surprised.
It's true that there are hateful conservatives, but it's not the norm for conservatives to hate or demonize those who disagree.
It is the norm for libs to demonize those who disagree with their policies as being ignorant/ racist/ sexist, etc.
I've heard mainstream libs accuse Bush of hating blacks, blowing up the world trade center, deliberately lying us into a war, and so on. He isn't Satan...c'mon.
The idea that nice libs are routine victims of conservative hostility is a bit much.
I see I will not be able to tell you anything, because you "know" that liberals are the villains. All I can say is that, growing up in an open, tolerant household, I couldn't be anything other than liberal. And knowing conservatives, their families, and their lifestyles, I know that they could never be tolerant of everyone. I'm not claiming that all liberals are tolerant of everyone, but that liberalism has an underlying tendency towards tolerance for those who receive it least.
You're a lib, and I don't think you're a villian. I think you're misguided.
Liberalism has a funny way of promoting intolerance and division under the guise of fighting those things. For example, there are few men as sexist, angry, and intolerant as feminists...and yet most feminists truly believe they are fighting sexism. It's irrational.
I admit it, I am a feminist. I hate sexists. I respect men who respect women; I don't respect men who don't respect women. Does that make me misguided, intolerant, irrational? Most feminists agree with me on that, and you can listen to your conservative propaganda and believe that WE, liberals, are the ones keeping you down, but, ultimately, you remain the misguided ones.
The feminists I see definately have a problem with men. They don't think this kind of sexism counts though. They tend to be hypocrits.
And no, I don't believe you're keeping me down, or that you're even capable of that. I know that I am the one who is ultimately in control of my own destiny...that's part of what makes me a conservative.
The feminists you see, or the feminists you hear about? As a woman, and a feminist, i can assure you that feminism is built on a foundation of tolerance for all individuals, regardless of gender. Those feminists you are talking about are disillusioned and bitter, possibly rightfully so, but that is a whole other issue.
No that is part of what makes you a human being. I feel the same way, and I am, by no stretch of the imagination, a conservative.
I don't demonize anyone, nor do any of my friends, or any of the charitable people who volunteered with me on the Obama campaign. I recall being cussed out by "normal," everyday conservatives while campaigning for Obama, hearing people call him the n-word, call him Muslim (as if being Muslim is a bad thing), call him terrorist. What should I think? That most conservatives are informed or respectful of other people's situations, religions, races? Not likely.
You are one. And I know more than one (you probably do too), who were very politically opinionated, and I know what they had to say during the campaign and on Nov. 5th.
Of course I'm politically opinionated. So are you. But I don't feel any animosity towards you because of your different opinions. If you were here I certainly wouldn't be yelling or cursing at you.
Activists on both sides tend to be a lot more radical. I'm sure that's what you ran into.
I don't feel any animosity towards you, but I bet, if we were talking face to face, we would both be raising our voices a little bit; it happens...
They were not activists, they were high school students, and while campaigning, they were people on the street or at home at the door or on the phone (hey, if you're angry that I am knocking on your door, I can get that, but don't call Obama a nigger to my face and then expect me to "tolerate" that.).
I am no victim, of anyone, but if it were up to people like Bill O'Reilly, Anne Coulter, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, your conservative spokespeople, I sure as hell would be.
Mainstream libs know that Bush is not Satan; we do know, however, that the people who were behind him, basically controlling him, were pretty close. We were lied into war, and poor Bush was "misinformed" about WMDs. It was a mistake, and now about 3000 US soldiers have died for that.
How do you think conservatives would victimize you if given the chance?
...and a whole bunch of Democrats were also mistaken about WMDs. Given the intelligence reports from around the world, it was a logical mistake to make. As I remember it many Democrats were pretty enthusiastic about removing Saddam.
If I cared. Unfortunately for them, I don't care what they have to say about me being liberal; I am all the way left, and happy about it.
I'm not complaining about getting rid of Saddam: the bastard got what was coming to him. I just know that when you get attacked and then you go to war ii a totally different country from your attackers, claim it is a war on terror (whatever that means), and have nothing to show for it, you got some explaining to do! We were lied to for far too long.
I'm sorry that you misunderstood me. I don't mean FORGET our beliefs and partisan preferences, I meant put aside (as I said) our political differences, for the moment, and remember that we are all Americans, and regardless of your political ideals, recognize what a momentous occasion it is, and realize that in light of the present economic situation, it IS in fact time to break down those political barriers as well as possible and UNITE. This is all of OUR country, all of OUR America.
i don't get you black american sometimes, now you guys are acting like america is your or you guys have a piece of it just because barack obama is now president. but before barack, america wasn't your or did you guys have any piece in it.
obama is just a puppet & you know nothing has change or will change especially when they still allow a terrorist group called the ku klux klan to still exist in america, but they want to go after islamist terrorist so called.
This country has always been ours, but we have never been given a real chance. Finally a black man has earned a truly influential role (THE most influential role) in this country, and it is because more and more people are getting over racism. This country elected him to office, despite the color of his skin, and that shows that finally black Americans can truly have a stake in our own country.
Nothing will change? Can you tell the future? Doubt it!
i might not be able to tell the future but i can assume that he's going to make things worst because their going him to do the dirty work.
don't you find it odd that this man just came out of nowhere, he family is not in politics, he not even a true black american who forefathers and mothers were slaves and he just got into office just like that. and he didn't even win by alot, mccain just fucked up in the end by electing palin to join his team.
Obama taught Constitutional Law at U of C and was elected State Senator in '96. He may be young, and 12 years may not be a lot of political experience for you, but I would never say that he "just came out of nowhere." To say that he is not qualified to do the job because his "family is not in politics" is a joke.
i know but when you look at all the other presidents, they all had either a long history in politics or their family members are in politics for example, fathers, mothers, brothers and etc.
how is that a joke, he was only in the senate for couple of years, he has no experience in politics but if you noticed, his team all has alot of experience in politics, its the team that wil be making the decision. & lets take race out of this for a minute, does a politician ever do anything for the people
(cont'd) He is not a "true" black American because his forefathers were not slaves? Since when do you define what a "true" black American is? He is black (his father is black) and he is American. Point blank.
So are you saying that McCain should have won? Why don't you "pick a side?"
if i was to pick a side, obviously i would pick obama over mccain anyday, but i'm will not have as much faith into obama like alot of black american are having right now.
come on like you have blacks calling him the messiah, the resurrection of jesus. don't you find that going over board, putting too much faith into one man only to have a higher chance of disappointment.
actually blacks are still considered second class citizens, until they eradicate it from the constitution, its still there
Personally I hate this race thing. You seem to have decided that you are a 'black' lady and feel the need to conform to whatever it is that some black people feel the need to conform to (for whatever reason it is that they may feel the need to do so). I think you are a nice person - and by any standards very attractive, but I do wish you might be little less concerned about race divisions and more interested in unity. No offence actually intended - I hope nobody mis-understands this comment.
No offense taken. I just don't want you thinking that I have "conformed." I support him because of his ideals and everything he stands for. The fact that he is a black man, however, shows a lot about how far we have come as a society. And the fact that there were still millions of people who refused to vote for him because he is black shows just how much race still matters in this country. I am proud to be black because we are finally getting serious recognition for something truly important.
I appreciate that there will have been 'white' people who have voted against Mr. Obama because of his 'race'. I would also imagine that conversely there will have been 'black' people who voted for him for the same reason. Both groups doing so, regardless of his other qualities or those of his opponents. However I do feel that the overall majority must have ignored the race issue (as I am sure he does himself) and voted for the best person.
Barack Obama is biracial... society says he is black because of the irritating need to compartmentalize people. It gives people a needless sense of pride in something they have nothing to do with. Black genes or not, if he is a terrible president there will be nothing to be proud of. ... just look at Bush, he was voted in TWICE.
This video was about unity, about ALL Americans coming together, uniting if you will, under the common cause of recognizing the dream that we for so long have been told of, but have not really been able to accomplish. Obama was elected because he is the best man for the job, but it speaks wonders that so many Americans recognized that as more important than race (after all, a large number of people were open about their resentment towards the possibility of a black pres.)
I fear that the fact that his race origins (part white American and part Kenyan) will probably be an overriding cause for celebration for many people - America's first 'black' President. I believe that he won the Presidency as he was universally recognised as being the best person for the job. There is a majority white population in America which voted for him too (this is not just a 'black' victory) - I'm suspect they didn't vote for him based upon his race.
Like many I am happy to see Mr. Obama as your president. I hope that he will be a positive contribution to world peace in contrast to most American Presidents (and that he concentrates primarily on improving his own countries' situation, rather than trying to 'improve' that of others - therefore leading by example).
Like I've always said, I embrace my blackness, and I have never been anything but proud of being black; but I will never downplay how proud I also am to have a father like my own. I am proud of who I am, as everyone should be
CHANGE? Well, I do know that we, as a nation, are undergoing major changes. So if you plan to continue nagging me about something I have addressed numerous times, when you could be discussing more pressing issues, take it off of my video.
Haha true! But a girl can dream, can't she?! :) I just hope we realize our full potential (as corny and cliche as it is), and I feel like this election was really what we needed to open our eyes
Sadly the Republicans who are majority coltroled by old White Southerners NEVER had any intentions on working with Pres. Oboma. Some questions from a curious white guy:
1. What % makes a person black?
Obama is half black and half white. He has no past slave blood in his veins.
His father abondned him, his white grandparents raised him.
2. There are white African-Americans
3. Knowing that there are many mothers who are not always sure who the fathers of their babies are; how many times would you think that 1/2 brothers and sisters are having babies and maybe even through several generations?

You are one. And I know more than one (you probably do too), who were very politically opinionated, and I know what they had to say during the campaign and on Nov. 5th.
MIXooNooMATCH 3 years ago
Of course I'm politically opinionated. So are you. But I don't feel any animosity towards you because of your different opinions. If you were here I certainly wouldn't be yelling or cursing at you.
Activists on both sides tend to be a lot more radical. I'm sure that's what you ran into.
kazeet456 3 years ago
I don't feel any animosity towards you, but I bet, if we were talking face to face, we would both be raising our voices a little bit; it happens...
They were not activists, they were high school students, and while campaigning, they were people on the street or at home at the door or on the phone (hey, if you're angry that I am knocking on your door, I can get that, but don't call Obama a nigger to my face and then expect me to "tolerate" that.).
MIXooNooMATCH 3 years ago
I am no victim, of anyone, but if it were up to people like Bill O'Reilly, Anne Coulter, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, your conservative spokespeople, I sure as hell would be.
Mainstream libs know that Bush is not Satan; we do know, however, that the people who were behind him, basically controlling him, were pretty close. We were lied into war, and poor Bush was "misinformed" about WMDs. It was a mistake, and now about 3000 US soldiers have died for that.
MIXooNooMATCH 3 years ago
How do you think conservatives would victimize you if given the chance?
...and a whole bunch of Democrats were also mistaken about WMDs. Given the intelligence reports from around the world, it was a logical mistake to make. As I remember it many Democrats were pretty enthusiastic about removing Saddam.
kazeet456 3 years ago
MIXooNooMATCH 3 years ago
I'm sorry that you misunderstood me. I don't mean FORGET our beliefs and partisan preferences, I meant put aside (as I said) our political differences, for the moment, and remember that we are all Americans, and regardless of your political ideals, recognize what a momentous occasion it is, and realize that in light of the present economic situation, it IS in fact time to break down those political barriers as well as possible and UNITE. This is all of OUR country, all of OUR America.

i don't get you black american sometimes, now you guys are acting like america is your or you guys have a piece of it just because barack obama is now president. but before barack, america wasn't your or did you guys have any piece in it.
obama is just a puppet & you know nothing has change or will change especially when they still allow a terrorist group called the ku klux klan to still exist in america, but they want to go after islamist terrorist so called.
american is not ready for change
chambers396 3 years ago
This country has always been ours, but we have never been given a real chance. Finally a black man has earned a truly influential role (THE most influential role) in this country, and it is because more and more people are getting over racism. This country elected him to office, despite the color of his skin, and that shows that finally black Americans can truly have a stake in our own country.
Nothing will change? Can you tell the future? Doubt it!
MIXooNooMATCH 3 years ago
i might not be able to tell the future but i can assume that he's going to make things worst because their going him to do the dirty work.
don't you find it odd that this man just came out of nowhere, he family is not in politics, he not even a true black american who forefathers and mothers were slaves and he just got into office just like that. and he didn't even win by alot, mccain just fucked up in the end by electing palin to join his team.
chambers396 3 years ago
Dirty Work? Is this another conspiracy theory?
Obama taught Constitutional Law at U of C and was elected State Senator in '96. He may be young, and 12 years may not be a lot of political experience for you, but I would never say that he "just came out of nowhere." To say that he is not qualified to do the job because his "family is not in politics" is a joke.
MIXooNooMATCH 3 years ago
i know but when you look at all the other presidents, they all had either a long history in politics or their family members are in politics for example, fathers, mothers, brothers and etc.
how is that a joke, he was only in the senate for couple of years, he has no experience in politics but if you noticed, his team all has alot of experience in politics, its the team that wil be making the decision. & lets take race out of this for a minute, does a politician ever do anything for the people
chambers396 3 years ago
(cont'd) He is not a "true" black American because his forefathers were not slaves? Since when do you define what a "true" black American is? He is black (his father is black) and he is American. Point blank.
So are you saying that McCain should have won? Why don't you "pick a side?"
MIXooNooMATCH 3 years ago
if i was to pick a side, obviously i would pick obama over mccain anyday, but i'm will not have as much faith into obama like alot of black american are having right now.
come on like you have blacks calling him the messiah, the resurrection of jesus. don't you find that going over board, putting too much faith into one man only to have a higher chance of disappointment.
actually blacks are still considered second class citizens, until they eradicate it from the constitution, its still there

Ponyman8 3 years ago
No offense taken. I just don't want you thinking that I have "conformed." I support him because of his ideals and everything he stands for. The fact that he is a black man, however, shows a lot about how far we have come as a society. And the fact that there were still millions of people who refused to vote for him because he is black shows just how much race still matters in this country. I am proud to be black because we are finally getting serious recognition for something truly important.
MIXooNooMATCH 3 years ago
I appreciate that there will have been 'white' people who have voted against Mr. Obama because of his 'race'. I would also imagine that conversely there will have been 'black' people who voted for him for the same reason. Both groups doing so, regardless of his other qualities or those of his opponents. However I do feel that the overall majority must have ignored the race issue (as I am sure he does himself) and voted for the best person.
Ponyman8 3 years ago
Barack Obama is biracial... society says he is black because of the irritating need to compartmentalize people. It gives people a needless sense of pride in something they have nothing to do with. Black genes or not, if he is a terrible president there will be nothing to be proud of. ... just look at Bush, he was voted in TWICE.
c00lwatter 3 years ago
This video was about unity, about ALL Americans coming together, uniting if you will, under the common cause of recognizing the dream that we for so long have been told of, but have not really been able to accomplish. Obama was elected because he is the best man for the job, but it speaks wonders that so many Americans recognized that as more important than race (after all, a large number of people were open about their resentment towards the possibility of a black pres.)
MIXooNooMATCH 3 years ago
Comment Part 2
I fear that the fact that his race origins (part white American and part Kenyan) will probably be an overriding cause for celebration for many people - America's first 'black' President. I believe that he won the Presidency as he was universally recognised as being the best person for the job. There is a majority white population in America which voted for him too (this is not just a 'black' victory) - I'm suspect they didn't vote for him based upon his race.
Ponyman8 3 years ago
Comment part 1.
Like many I am happy to see Mr. Obama as your president. I hope that he will be a positive contribution to world peace in contrast to most American Presidents (and that he concentrates primarily on improving his own countries' situation, rather than trying to 'improve' that of others - therefore leading by example).
Ponyman8 3 years ago
did u say that u were black? Hmmmmm!
now that is a definitely a CHANGE.
firefox8192 3 years ago
Like I've always said, I embrace my blackness, and I have never been anything but proud of being black; but I will never downplay how proud I also am to have a father like my own. I am proud of who I am, as everyone should be
CHANGE? Well, I do know that we, as a nation, are undergoing major changes. So if you plan to continue nagging me about something I have addressed numerous times, when you could be discussing more pressing issues, take it off of my video.
