    Hwaj5300

  • I was on the West Coast at this time, never made it there I guess. It started popping up on some "Oldies" albums in the 60s.....became a classic to all.

  • IN LISTENING TO THIS SONG THE LEAD ACTUALLY SAYS LARAIN NOT LORRAINE. ANY ONE AGREES WITH ME

  • @srcourtofficer .

I say them both .....I don't hear the difference as to the way people say it ie. Debra or Deborah....Then again there is Poetic license...But thanks for the comment

  • GREAT SONG

  • @srcourtofficer

    Agreed

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • This is my all time favorite Knockouts song. I loved to see them down the shore at the Parrot club, north end of the boardwalk aat Seaside Hights.

Bobby deAndrea was the lead singer.

  • I may have been lost a bit, but I find it usually falls in tyhe high thirties ti mid forties on many of the Doo-Wop references I use. It's a good standard "meat grinder" from that era.

  • Believe it or not guys...That is my Uncle Harry drumming in this song. He is the guy in the top left of the knockouts. We lost him this year but when I hear this song it brings back some great memories!! Miss you Uncle Harry!!

  • @Davnic98

Sorry about your loss I am Happy to have brought back some "great memories"

    though

    Hwaj5300

  • @Davnic98 Sorry about losing your uncle - he will live forever in this magical song - Dj

  • haven't heard that one since I was a teen queen in brooklyn; used to wish my name was lorraine

  • @claudia723

well you may be Lorraine to me .......Only the in crowd knows

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • @claudia723 I bet you were a 'problem' and

I'm sure that you had 2 boyfriends, Tony &

Ira. I bet I know who you married!

  • Sounds like Frankie and the Knockouts!

They were a short lived band, but they did have some great hits including their biggest selling single "Sweetheart", some of the other hits were featured in the movie "Dirty Dancing". Listening to them again takes you down memory lane.

  • @franklindavid

Have dirty dancing ......do not remember " Frankie and knockout " from it..

    I will listen again

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • I forgot about this song very nice.

  • @srcourtofficer ..

Thanks ....But don't forget it again.....Or it a detention for you

    Hwaj5300

  • I agree, not big at the time but a great one anyway. I have it on a 45 always reminds me of my old girlfriend Lorraine B - - - -0.

  • @robshannon

Hey rob... Great minds think alike

    Hwaj5300

  • @robshannon dude i this song also reminds me of my ex girlfriend loraine f------e

  • @Mr818Joker

    Hope they are good memories

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300 no there not :(

  • @Mr818Joker

Sorry Mr818Joker There is nothing to say except try (and I know how hard it can be ) to not have those memories

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • @Mr818Joker Hey Mr818 your a real joker. It's a good thing your ex girlfriends name isn't Lorraine B----o or we would have been 2 timed. Anyway when I went to Nam she promised she would wait for me. She only waited 2 months. The tour in Nam was 13 months. That was good for me, I didn't want no unfaithful girlfriend anyway. I had a hard time covering her name on my arm. I covered it with an eagle and the letters U S M C. Well, anything else you might like to know just ask.

  • I am English never heard Dion and the Belmonts never mind the Monotones first term i hear this but np will buy it

  • @stevegale1948

  • @TheJukeboxGirl I saw you there Jukebox

I saw you there JukeboxGirl...exit 82 off the parkway then follow the road down that takes you to sumner ave. That's where I parked. The chatterbox was a happening place in those days and they had many big named acts. Saw some of them myself. I'm just a Jersey Boy myself. Funny what a small world it is huh? Those were the days when even the beaches were clean and everyone on the beach had there radios tuned to the same station. Take care. cya

  • @chucksterberg

  • @w1037 yeah I remember well I was born in 48 and have seen a lot of groups i Seaside heights and also in Palisades park

  • @w1037 wow man I live in Philly and always went to seaside in the summer in the 60's remember picking ujp wabc and wmca, we had wibg in philly but these two stations were so much better...I remember the chatterbox, the skilos, the beachcomber where the fendermen performed and so many other great things about seaside and the music coming from the clubs and radio were fantastic not what is out there today yuck.....great times in the great 60's.

  • pittsburgh music!!

  • I still sing this song it,s bin 20yr.

  • don't know where you come from but, this was a monster HIT in Pittsburgh PA at the time.

  • i read somewhere that some consider this song to be a "send-up" of a typical doo-wop song, but the fact is, it's actually a magnificent doo-wop in itself, regardless....

  • nice work by Dion as a back up singer

  • @Pacer8 hate to burst your bubble but that's not Dion, it's Bob Collada.

  • fantastic song 1 of my fav s thanks

  • Does any one known who is playing the SAX. I worked with a guy Teddy Olisiack in Secucus NJ in the 70's who stated he was the one in the recording

12/14/09 -- Sandra Bullock - Best Actress Golden Globe Awards (shared with Meryl Streep, another of the best).

  • 1961, right?

  • It.s Sandra Bulluck

  • is that paula abdul?

  • Very alurring picture at the beginning.. Mysterious and beautiful..

  • Bonjour , j'adore cette chanson qui porte mon prénom :::::::P elle est superbe

  • Just came upon this website as I was looking for the song. I had the pleasure of doing some stuff with Bobby in 1959 & 60. I was in a band out of Westchester County, NY and first saw the Knockouts at Greenwood Lake. Bobby was the first person we saw playing an electric piano that he had amplified so that he could play it as a bass. He helped our group put together one for ourselves. I was sorry to hear that Bobby passed away so long ago.

  • I, too, remember them from Mountain Lakes Inn on Greenwood Lake. I worked behind the bar on weekends. However, they rarely did Darling Lorraine in the later years. My favorite was their comedy sketch of El Paso.

They always drew a great crowd, 5 deep at the bar, who appreciated their talent.

  • Yes! El Paso was tooooooo funny!

  • great song by a great group---Kenny Vance revived it and does a great job on it as well.

  • This is a terrific song. The Knockouts will be at Bishop Ford High School, Brooklyn, NY on March 27, 2010, along with Joe Favale & The Emotions, Shirley Alston Reeves, The Tymes and The Fireflies. Will be a terrific Doo Wop Show!!

  • Thank you! I was 18 the first time I went to see The Knockouts play. I'm pretty sure it was at Luciano's on Rt. 4. That summer they were at Mountain Lakes Inn at Greenwood Lake. I got a job as a waitress, became really good friends with Bobby Collada. he was a delightful man, very bright and talented, made very funny horror movies, loved SciFi. He died of a brain tumor in 68. It was bittersweet to see the album cover, though I have the 45, it's been 40+ years since I'd seen his face.

  • WONDERFUL OLD SONG. GOOD TO DANCE TO.

  • Wonderful song from a great time in the past. To the last poster...sorry for your loss.

  • Bob D'Andrea wrote this song for my sister lorraine who he was dating at the time, sadly she passed awayu 3 years ago, I cry whenever I hear this song, it brings back so many memories of my sister. Thanks Bob.

  • I saw them one New Years eve in Lodi NJ at the Lido....I think it was 1961 or 2...Great sound.

  • Hello, this is a fabulous song. I grew up in Secaucus NJ, not for from North Bergen. What year was this released?

    Thanks!

  • I believe it was 1959. The 45 rpm single was numbered 5013 on the blue and white SHAD record label. I've been wanting to find a copy for my collection. It's a great song!

  • Wow, and believe it or not, I just found a near mint copy and bought it on the spot. Thanks for reminding me of this great classic!

  • Great Testimonial

    PEOPLE STILL BY MUSIC

GOT THAT COPY WRITE INFRINGEMENT POLICE??????

    Thanks Agent

  • Does Bobby still preform nowadays?

  • Yes he is with Andre and Cirell....Its a music/comedy act....they are very good...

  • The Knockouts from North Bergen ,New Jersey Just Great

  • Once again you chose a winner. Keep them coming1

  • kenny vance brought this song to life!!!

  • No No No NO

The Knockout.... Kenny may have done his version.... but the song never died.

  • You're kidding right? Kenny Vance cant make a pimple on the ass of the original....Please tell me you were just joking!!!!

  • Couldn't go to sleep without hearing this one. As always - thanks Harryy...Dj

  • So sorry, I just had major hand surgery on my right hand and typing with my left hand is causing me problems. By accident I clicked on the thumbs down instead of the thumbs up. I apologize because your comment was great.

  • Another great one. You really have provided us with some wonderful memories. Thans so much.

  • I agree hwaj , its a gr8 one alright .

    thanks for posting

  • Thanks again - Harry you are the best!!!!!

    Dj

  • didn't the Knockouts do a song Rich Boy .Poor Boy Thanks for the post

  • You're right Calimari.

The Two Main Doo Wop groups were either

    Black or Italian.

  • I live for what happens at 1:20... Wow. Thanx for posting a great looking video to go with this fine song.

  • Between 1958 and 1964, most Doo Wop were white groups (many of those were Italian). Before 1958 there were also many white doo wop groups with big hits...youd be suprised. You cant tell just by listening.

  • You are so right about most of the doo wop groups. I grew up in Little Italy of Boston and we had a group of guys singing doo wop on every corner. This song. Great song.

  • What's very interesting about this song is the fact that they were a white group with the soulful sound. I first saw them on TV a few years back on the PBS fund raising drive and they sounded almost to the 45 version, they haven't lost their touch, both those guys. I'm not pushing PBS but thank you for bringing them back, like to see some other lost forgotten groups we haven't seen for ages.

  • i dont know what sandra bullock has to do with the song but what a great show. what a beutiful for song for a beutiful woman. very well done.

  • I first heard this song back when Murray the K, Was DeeJay in NYC. WINS Radio.

Soon as I heard it I bought the 45, And, Still have it in Exc. Condition, Kenny Vance, Doesn't compare to the Original at all.

  • I love Kenny Vance - he is great -but, I agree with you - the Knockouts own this one -Dj

  • Thanks for posting this rare song hwaj5300. Its always been one of my favorites. I never get to hear it anymore. The Knockouts were another great Hudson County (NJ) group.

  • This is a great recording that somehow got lost in the shuffle! Thank you. By the way has anyone heard of The Diary of a High School Bride by Tony Casanova- 58-63? I cannot find it anywhere.

  • Great NJ group...

  • I just recently found out that Bobby (Pierre) was my Uncle. Weird, huh?

  • This song is one of my all time favorites..this song could never be duplicated by any other group...the Knockouts aced this one.

  • Great post..

Nice to see so many comments, and other who love this music.. Thanks from a Bayside guy

  • @RockLives4u I knew this guy from Bayside who was doo wop crazy. Is this you Vinny?

  • @robshannon Not him, however I would challenge him for the crazy title..

Thanks for the query John Z Bayside guy

  • Still haunting vocal a half century later

  • Good enough for Kenny Vance to use this in "Looking for an Echo."

  • OH WOW! Thank you for this great classic - Dj

  • The piano intro is a classic example of how many oldies use the chord pattern to the piano duet Heart & Soul.

    C/Am/Dm/G

  • Thanks HWAJ I have this in my Jukebox . love this song!

  • Good work. I did see them on the PBS special a few years ago, and the audience was thrilled (or, may I say, "knocked out") by their rendition, more than forty years after the record's release. As a teenager, I too had the Shad 45 among my 500. As time went on and I developed other interests, I found myself owning but two 45s: this and a promo by Jimmy Wick called "Send For Me." (There's your next challenge.) My 45 was the shorter version, and preferred. The longer ends too insincerely.

  • iam just playing ppl..this song reminds me of back in tha days!=)

  • wtf is this..hear some FUNK..

  • Awesome doo wop! I sing this song at least once every day. It's been 52 days and counting!

  • I remember this record being played at a friends house. If I recall the other side was "Riot in room 3C". I remember that because I grew up in an apt. in Brooklyn, 3C.

  • Did anybody see them on the Dowop show 2 years ago, they were FANTASTIC! You could actually close your eyes and sware it was the 45 playing, that's how good they were!

  • This is a great song and you did a nice job on the visual!

  • The drummer, Pierre LaSalle, is actually Bobby Catucci from Kearny, NJ. I went to school with him through the 8th grade and played in a band with his brother Tommy. He passed away 2 or 3 years ago.

  • One of the best songs from the Doo Wop ear, I dare say....

  • I still have the orig 45 record.

    Eddie Parenti wrote D.L.

Bobby Collada passed away in 1969 from a brain tumor.

Bobby D'Andrea still works...under name of Andre & Cirell.

Bobby D. was from West New York, N.J. Eddie, Lodi Bobby C. Bayonne I met them in 1962 when Pierre LaSalle was the drummer. Pierre, from Garfield, N.J.

They did an album and cut 3 other singles.

Album was, Go Ape With The Knockouts.

  • I believe that Rose Gallagher from Hoboken, NJ wrote D.L. She was acquainted with Eddie and showed it to him. He then claimed it as his own. There was a long civil suit battle which resulted in Mrs Gallagher being awarded some of the royalties because the court could not definitively decide between the two of them.

  • yes one of the best

  • What a great find! Many folks may not have heard this song as it was mostly played in the New York-New Jersey-Eastern PA area (thanks to good old 77 WABC,Fabulous 57 WMCA and Famous 56 WFIL) I have looked for this song on CD and never have found it. Thanks for the post!!

  • These Guys Were Great You Did a Great Job!

  • Another really nice job!

  • Very nice. 1960 and the flip is "Riot in Room 3C", Shad #5013.

  • I've been singing this song for many many years. I could never find it on a cd. You cannot believe how thrilled I was to see it here....with Sandra no less. A Masterpiece.

    Thank you.

  • What a great song!!

  • Isnt that Sandra Bullock?

  • Excellent number from the Shad label in 1959. This group, I believe, came from New Jersey, and the lead singer's name was Bob D'Andrea. This was their only chart hit, getting as high as #46 on the pop charts in 1960. WCBS-FM used to play this one a lot, which is how I got turned on to it. Thanks for posting!

  • Bob was from North Bergen. He used to go into my Uncle Mario and Aunt Caroline's Deli and invited them to see the group perform at the Chatterbox on the boardwalk in Seaside in the 60's.He now appears in northern NJ clubs as a comedic act.
