  • Just curious. Does the story in this musical dictate the conceptual style? I love the music but the mime aspect seems so alienating.

  • Sorry but I don't care for Tony's performance, something is missing like energy. I do disagree with others that Anthony Newley is indispensable. Right now the show is being revived at a nearby dinner theater. It is staring one of our local community theater stars (want to revive anything with a great staring part for a man, just call him--The Music Man, Sunday in the Park with George, Sweeney Todd, Grand Hotel are just some of his fairly recent roles) and it still makes a great impression.

  • It is dangerous when you dare to revive a show that had to do with a great man full of talent and soul as Mr Newley .. the truth I did not like the interpretation of this singer, I'm a thousand times with Tony Newley

  • I forgot I had commented on this before, sorry for the double and triple post as well.

  • Peter Scolari did a version of this on A&E some years back that was just wonderful, I think, I believe it was done in 91 or so..1990 something...It's better than this, in my opinion. He did it with Stephanie Zimbalist as Eve. I wish I could find it here on YouTube.

  • I saw this in 1968 or 69 in a new ampitheatre in Arlington. I saw all of the rehearsals, and the cast treated me like a mascot -even letting me hand out programs and sit in the frount. I felt sooo special. I can't remember if it was Newly who did the show, but it was full of big political types. It affected me the rest of my life- in s good way. I've been singing and acting since. Thanks, gang!

  • I saw Tony Tanner in a bus and truck production of GEORGE ME and I'll never forget what a great performer he was back then in my little town. It's great to have these clips from the movie. I hope I can get to see the whole STOP THE WORLD movie someday.

  • I saw Newley do it on Broadway. (1962?) When he walked through the imaginary door to his father-in-law's office - with a rim-shot to indicate the door closing - he spoke the wrong line. The piano didn't respond. Newley impatiently repeated the line. The conductor signaled that it was his flub. Newley said, "Sorry Dad, I'll try this again," went out and closed the door behind him (to another rim-shot), came back in, giving the right cue line. It turned into a wonderful moment, to great applause.

  • well what is there to say

  • Man, I love this so much.

  • Love you, Tony Tanner. And you are a great writer!

  • Peter Scolari did a version of this for the A&E Network years ago. His take on LittleChap is better. imo

  • @darkb4lightt I saw him in it when he was touring, and I concur.

  • @darkb4lightt I saw him in it when he was touring, and I concur.

  • I saw this at the flicks in Sydney in the late 60s. A wonderful experience. I was also lucky enough to have the Tony Newley LP of the show. Sadly that has gone.

  • Saw STOP THE WORLD on B'dway with Newley. As good as he is, when I saw the movie with Tony Tanner...in my opinion...I saw the best! Great show, fine movie!

  • My cousin was in a college production of this. I've seen pictures, and she wore a blue shoulder-length wig, a light green polka dot dress, and pink gloves. She was a chorus memeber.

  • Wimberley playhouse did it this summer, i ran a spotlight... It was better than the movie

  • stageplay versions are always better than the movies...because they're written for the stage.

  • I saw Newley in the original on B'way. I finally got to see Tanner in a touring production of CABARET out at the old Westbury Music Fair in a tene (before they got greedy and concretized the theatre). Tanner played the Emcee (Lesie Uggams was Sally Bowles) and he was wonderful. I love this show, having played Littlechap myself a hundred years ago in a small theatre in Binghamton, New York. I often wonder why, with a small cast and single set, no one revives this great show.

  • woop! I'm in this show at the mo, can't believe its not more well-known, its amazing! thanks for posting!

  • My god, how good is that! .......break a leg

    x

  • I ADORE this man!

  • I wish this had been filmed with Anthony Newley and Anna Quayle....they're great. These two actors are good too, but to me it's just not quite the same

  • yea, pity Anthony Newley didn't do the film, but it was his own fault...he was asked to star in the film even when he was starring on Broadway in "stop the world.." in the ealy sixties. But he refused because of some particular neurosis or fixation he was having at that moment(one of the many..) or maybe because he was just lazy...anyway, he had the opportunity and declined...pity but that's life...nobody to blame but himself

  • i really need this....someone please bring it forth to me....i remember seeing this film as a child and being obsessed. with this and godspell. and i have godspell thank christ. but i need this too. its gorgeous.

  • Sounds like Tim Curry a la Rocky Horror lol

  • I am in awe of the great Tony Tanner.

  • Oh my god, yes! Me too. Love the man.....

  • Is that dude a mimer?

  • Hey the "what kind of fool am I?" has a great girl rendition.. Just Search "JONALYN VIRAY WHAT KIND OF FOOL AM I?".. I don't know where did that wonderful girl came from but she's GREAT!! FANTASTIC!!

  • Brilliant

  • By the way, this is the great Tony Tanner from the UK who became a major leading actor, director and choreographer on Broadway.

Newley cast him repeatedly and starred Tony in this film version. Tony still directs, acts and writes...he is the real deal.

  • Oh, Tony! My heart leaps with each note. Thanks for sending me this, dear friend. You are so brilliant

  • im in my 1st yr of a foundation degree @ hull college-we're performing this show in april and we can't wait!! we've watched this film and it was ok, but obviously we're not doin the show exactly like this film! the chorus girls look so wooden...lol. great musical tho'...xx

  • I bought this video just see what the stage version might had looked like , what a bloody

disappointment , you can tell Tony had not one thing to do with it what a waste of a good show

  • Your so right......it appears to have no direction at all.....too bad Tonys revival production was not recorded, it was good.

  • I didn't think it was that bad...

  • Did you see Anthony Newley,s revival?...This guy does not have a bad set of pipes...but even during Mountain & Lifetime theres no optimism in his delivery or presence..Im a little jaded... having seen Tony live 27 times. Again thanks for posting!!

  • If you're talking about the 1978 revival, I was not alive at that point in time. I'd love to have seen Tony Newley on stage, though. Too bad I never will.

  • Anthony Newley cast Tony to do this....this is the staged version...Tony did Newley's shows in the West End, London.

This is the original staging, dear hearts...
