(An intellectual rapist) Very fitting for her character. In a way, I don't hate that she's in the story, I just want REALLY bad things to happen to her, and I relish every mistake she makes. ^_^

All Umineko forums and fansites are full of Erika worshipers. >.> Yeah, I understand her role in the story (she was needed to advance the plot) but my gosh, did she really have to be such a bitchy know-it-all Mary Sue? It's like Ryu was really mocking at the fans. Besides, I really hate her for what she did to Natsuhi in ep 5. But I absolutely loved the ending of ep 6, she got what she deserved. Damn that Erika!!!

@confusedkitsune Mary Sue? I kinda hope people would stop using terminology they don't understand... A Mary Sue is, and i quote, "a fictional character with overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as a wish-fulfillment fantasy for the author or reader." Erika is obviously flawed - she is insane and emotionally distubed. Mary Sues are one-dimensional, Erika isnt. Mary Sues are very ethical and cliché, Erika kills people to prove her point.

@Luxikhar I know what a Mary Sue is, thank you. And there are many variations of Sues - I do agree that Erika isn't a traditional one. I'll write this is multiple messages due to the space limit, but basically, if you were to go by the definition from TvTropes: "In other words, the term "Mary Sue" is generally slapped on a character who is important in the story, possesses unusual physical traits, and has an irrelevantly over-skilled or over-idealized nature.", Erika is definitely one.

@confusedkitsune She is obviously over-skilled and over-mannered for someone who is, presumably, a teenager. In the beginning she is idolized by all Ushiromiyas. She does have that deep, troubled past (her boyfriend betraying her, thus leading her to despise love). She is not exactly an author avatar, but more like a "fan avatar" - Ryu uses her to represent the fan theories.

Yes, she does have flaws. However - she does not seem to posses character development traits - at least not until ep 8.

@confusedkitsune I disagree. First, if you're going by the premise of her being over-skilled then every detective in History is a "Mary Sue". All of them have above-average skills. Heck, i'm a Mary-Sue in a couple areas myself! Erika is no different, except she is way more obsessed. Her mannerism is just for kicks and rarely used. Her story is not even that deep, it's as common as common can be.

@confusedkitsune She develops a lot during ep 6, if you recall correctly and most umineko fans i know hate her. Mary Sues are always pictured as being the "saviors of mankind", the "queens of self-sacrfice" etc. As you know, she is nothing like that. Point stands. And i'm not gonna argue against "non-traditional definitions", since anyone can create and build them upon nothing, baseless and still call it a "definition".
