I was just looking this up the other day. Apparently, there was this philosopher named Arthur Schopenhauer who originally came up with the 'hedgehog's dilema'. He used it to explain the actual sacrifice of warmth for comfort. I believe it was Freud who actually adapted it to human behavior. Basically. In relationships, everyone starts them with the best of intentions, but because of mistrust and fear, they become uncomfortable, and eventually end.
sad thing is i have this dillema im just to afraid to get involved in someones life whether it being a friend or a girlfriend i dont want to get to close afraid of saying something that might cause them emotional pain or hating me

Funny thing about the hedgehog's Dilemma. Hedgehogs only raise up their spines in a manner that would hurt when alarmed. So two hedgehogs getting close wouldn't actually prick each other. In fact they are known for bunching together in groups for warmth.
Yeah, the false idea that hedgehogs hurt each other when close is the basis for the psychological status the protagonist Shinji suffers from the the majority of the show.
Yup, humans do that too. They want to be close to other people, but there is people, who are bad at social things.. Those are the "hedgehogs" who hurt other hedgehogs by getting close to them.. That's how I see it..
Actually the idea here is everyone is a hedgehog, rather than a few people. Its the ones closest to you who can hurt you the most. The dilemma is that you cannot simply distance yourself from everyone. But Shinji does not realize this at first.
Also, what else do you have from Evangelion? I belive I head somewhere all characters in NGE has their own theme song... am I right? I'd like to hear them if there is.
