For me this album sounds as equally medieval as the next ones - maybe it's some kinda psychological trick, which would never happen if I've never heard the next albums.
I think this sounds far more refined (IE actually caring if the guitar is in tune) than Joy Division. Plus Brenden Perrys voice is far better as well. Dont get me wrong JD is a fun listen but it pales in comparison to DCD. DCD is other worldly. I wish they made a few more albums in this style before going the direction they eventually went.
Don't misconstrue, all of DCD's discography is amazing. Still, I am somewhat disappointed that they didn't pursue this sound more, as opposed to the ethereal/baroque/old world sound.
Joy Division was apparently a big influence. It has been amazing to hear this band evolve over the decades. I listened to this album incessantly in my college dorm in the eighties. They have been my favorite been ever since. Bar-none.
The guitar sound is unbelievable great the chorus sound phaenomenal the bass line endless elegance the song is the best DCD so simple just perfection whoever sees this buy this record !!!
@megagenius08 vabbè sono due gruppi diversi, non possono essere messi a paragone. comunque i dcd sono un gruppo immenso e anche definirli goth o metterli nel calderone dark/new wave è limitativo.

Wow you can really tell they were trying to be like Joy Division there. I definitely like their newer stuff better. It's more original too.
