  • Ah, that makes sense, hopefully get around to making one myself at some stage, and I don't think I would have thought about the lateral forces on the jack until it was performing poorly. Thanks for the help again, keep creating, be a very dull world if everyone just bought what they wanted!

  • Thanks for the response, and thanks again for posting these videos up here, great work keep it up!

  • Great video, thanks for sharing!

Can I just ask a few questions for the simple ones like myself -

    1) Why have you encased the bottle jack at all, could you not have mounted the lower stand to the top of the jack?

    2) Where did you get your wheel set from?

One other point to mention that animals can get arc eye too.

  • @videogalore

Answer to question 1. That seemed the right way to me. I suppose you have something in mind as to if it could have been done your way so I guess the answer to your question is probably yes it could have been done some other way.

    2. Harbor Freight.

Max is a shop dog. Been raised up as a puppy not to watch the arc. He doesn't watch at all. He's never close enough to be harmed when I'm welding outside. He's also smart enough to not stare at the sun which will have the same effect.

  • @videogalore To answer your question better. I mounted the lower die the way I did for rigidity/strength, plus, lateral movement messes with hydraulic cylinder seals. The cylinder only provides upward pressure to the die my way, with no connection to the die head. Doing this prevents damaging lateral forces created while wheeling from affecting the cylinder. Notice that I lock the slide tube with cap screws before wheeling. This transfers all lateral forces to the frame where they belong.

  • @TANKAR1 One more note to the wheel adjustment. I finally settled on using an indicator for final adjustments in regards to obtaining prior settings.

  • I like the video but I had to turn off the sound. The music made me want to do drugs and I never did drugs in my life.

  • the text is way to fast

  • well done ,but i dont like the use of hydraulic jack for pressing the anvil, that way you have no feel for how much presure you put on it.

And seems like you have a little hard time rolling the plate between the wheels also, seems like way to much pressure

  • funny....the jack works great. You must have missed the part about the scale and making sure that I stroke the jack the same amount. Might seem wrong to you but it works for me.

Also. I don't normally use the wheel on a flat peice like that. The fact is, I overtightened it on purpose in the vid to expose problems. like the binding issue I had (fixed with a thrust washer. Normal use would involve shaping the steel first with a helving hammer or hammer and beater bag, or a plannishing hammer.
