So how is that a "set-up"? I see that perhaps it put Romney and Huckabee at a disadvantage but no person was pulling the strings. The people were free to vote and the result was clear. So "set-up"? Also look at the results of the delegates McCain had a nice 1,575 Huckabee had 278 and Romney had 271. Even if you added Huckabee and Romney's delegates together they couldn't have beaten McCain. Hell they wouldn't even have half his delegates if they combined. No McCain won by a long shot.

Yeah set-up is not the right word for the situation, ill agree with that. But the conservative vote-split goes further than the delegates than romney and Huckabee won. Without huckster, mitt would have won iowa and florida which would have done wonders for his momentum and given people more faith in his campaign

So we can agree that Savage was wrong. Beyond that McCain (based upon exit polls) had 49% of his vote from conservative voters in the republican primary. Now that isn't much compared to Huckabee (75%) and Romney (80%) but remember neither Romney nor Huckabee were able to appeal to moderates which is VERY important. So looking at the raw data if you gave either Huckabee or Romney all of the others conservative vote they would still have had less "momentum" than McCain.
