  • .... most say the word cat by stating 'c' and 't' and glossing over the middle 'a' and separate words with the pauses between the lead in and out of forming those sounds. the farmer was doing the opposite and heightening the middle 'a' and by glossing over the distinctions of the words start and end makes the sentence incomprehensible

  • i like these educational videos

although my limited knowledge of england gave me the impression that cockney was englands farmer/country/hick/back wood/water.

so what is the slang for their speech?

a reference being the movie 'hot fuzz' the farmer with the sea mine was damn near incomprehensible in forming whole words almost smoothing over them by putting emphasis on only the middle sounds of words and bridging them by glossing over the start and end of whole words. example being...

  • Kelly from Misfits.

  • he looks like jim parsons

  • ah nah brahn cah

  • Adele!

  • Adele's accent! woohoooo!

  • what is his accent called? he speaks like carlie mcdonnell

  • @Alstergirl its cockney...

  • Yep good coaching but who wants to learn aside from screen/theatre actors? Probably visitors to London interested in regional English accents? There were some better cockney speakers like Michael Caine in his early years who made himself understood even in Holywood. Gradually he lost his accent and spoke a more standard type of English. -yet still identifiable in parts as a cockney.

The all classic terms are 'bother' & 'butter' -as mentioned which (as a Brit) I still find hilarious.

  • Leslie Knope owns this accent.

  • Cockney Thug

  • actually the only units I find cockney are those "TH" sounds and "t ->o-oh" sounds

  • I'm here for Adele!

  • @SAIDON92 so am I :) I wanna speak like her :)

  • I love the way they say 'Quarter'. Sounds like 'Khaw'tuh', like you're talking with C'thulhu or something.

  • How are you a voice coach, you're awful

  • All your videos are good but whenever you imitate a "non-Standard English" accent, you should avoid saying "NORMALLY we say it like this... but in Irish or Scottish or Welsh, Cockney... we say it like that".. There are Englishes; varieties of English.. But there is certainly no "normal" English.

  • I used this accent in class today and it was completely unintelligible to my classmates, so everyone just stared it was like a foreign language.

  • Is your voice for real?

  • I'm trying to learn this but I can't because I keep getting laughter seizures.CURSE YOU LAUGHING SEIZURES!

  • As an American I used to not be able to tell the difference between the various British accents but it's getting easier the more I hear it. :D

  • @misha231 watch doctor who obsessively. you'll catch on.

  • 'A-NA-BRA-CA'...First off, the 'How now brown cow' wouldn't be pronounced THAT nasally...you make that sound like Eric Cartman.

  • Thanks. I'm Doing This Play. :D

  • Hardest accent for me to understand :D

  • Comment removed

  • Standard British speaker? There are so many different accents in Britain, I don't believe there is a standard accent.

  • @stillnotclare You would think so, wouldn't you, but "received pronunciation" is considered to be "standard".

I think that's what he means, as opposed to there being a standard British accent.

  • Good evening, sir. As a Cockney, born and bred, I feel compelled to inform you that we do not, in fact, all share the same accent.

There are several Cockney accents, and they're all equally hilarious.

  • @bongoklak0 actually, it should be "Arry Po uh"

  • so how do you know when to change the th sound into a D,V, or F?

  • @sailornaruto39 Voiceless "th" = always "f". Voiced "th" = always "v" except word initially, when it's "d". That's it.

  • @xalesd2 hmm voiceless? what do you mean? example?

  • @sailornaruto39 "think". Voiced - "this".

  • @xalesd2 so how can you tell if it is voiceless or not?

THIS IS NOT A COCKNEY ACCENT! IT'S JUST FUCKIN SHIT

  • Ok, What the fuck are you looking at? Those glances to the right and above you are really irritating.

  • @StrawberryRizla Thank you! but I don`t use the c word=) Well, I don`t really want to do a a cockney accent, I just consider British dialects as interesting and fun. But we learn American English in my regular English classes, but my British history teacher talks rather neutral english (I guess? She went to uni in London for some years.) She is the cause for my rising interest in Great Britain, history, culture, the different dialects.

That`s why I am constantly looking for British films.

  • 2:12 why the fuck did he say 'very good' ?

  • i like nice tits

  • Is there a movie where they talk like this??

  • @tineeeable 'Attack the block'

  • @TheSmashedPumpkin East London or Essex, which is it?

  • @ParkLaneTottenham1 born in the former, live in the latter

  • a hard 'th' at the start of the word is actually the same as a standard 'th', very very rarely a 'd', you'd sound a bit of of an idiot if you did this
