She came from a totalitarian 1984-type political system where the individual was destroyed and diluted into the collective through some top down notion that everyone MUST live for everyone else, the collective. (did you watch this documentary?)
Her reaction was to go in the exact opposite direction.
So again, her work can't make sense without understanding what context she was from and reacting against.
@lettucemonster Actually the first episode of Adam Curtis' latest Documentary Series "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace" Basically shits all over Ayn Rands self centered ideology and the negative effects of it, that we still live with to this day. Anyway Rand was a fucking hypocrite, She benefited from having her High School and College Education paid for by the State and she collected Medicare and Social Security at the end of her life. She also left Russia before the 5 Year Plan.

My statement was made after already having watched All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace and isn't any less true.
I wasn't extolling the greatness of Objectivism as much as underscoring that fact that it only really makes sense within a context of a Pandora's Box.
Just because Greenspan saw himself as a Roark doesn't make him so.
And an army of Ellsworth Tooheys (which make up this Marxist nightmare) aren't suddenly heroic because Ayn Rand herself was insufferable.
@CRAPCANNONS Okay you are wrong on 4 points. 1.Alan Greenspan is a ego driven cunt. Not a Roark. Unless Roark was also an ego driven cunt. (I wouldn't know as I refuse to read any more Rand after suffering through the first 8 pages of "Anthem") 2.Rand was not a insufferable, she was an an Objectivist. 3.Objectivism is a ego driven cunts ideology. And 4.Characters from Rands books will teach you nothing about Marxists or Communists or Socialists. Reading books written by people who are, will.
This is the Ayn Randian nightmare.
The Fountainhead and Objectivism actually can't make sense with understanding what context she was from and reacting against.
