It was the Mets who supplied aid to those in need in the aftermath of the attacks, using Shea Stadium as a distribution center for food and other essentials. It was also the Mets, on the strength of Mike Piazza's home run to help beat the Braves in the first game in NY after 9/11, that provided a much-needed diversion and some measure of healing.

I think this was the best world series i have ever seen despite being a die-hard yankee fan. It was in retrospect fitting that they won three games in the most dramatic of fashions in NY and just didn't have it while in AZ. It was as if the common bond with the city pushed them on to win - the ghosts were out for those games.
