  • PLMD does almost always happen during sleep, BUT there are exceptions. Maybe they call it something else. At one time the meds I took for the nighttime movements caused them to intrude into wake time too. To help me sleep, I now use a TENS Unit before bedtime and my legs are calm enough to let me sleep.

  • This exact thing happens to my feet but I do it when I'm awake. I'm not sure, but it seems to have gotten worse as it was only the right foot, but periodically my left begins to twitch. Getting to sleep is a joke. I'm really not sure what I should do for this??? Help anyone?

  • @UtopiaMinor666 This sounds like restless legs syndrome. Periodic limb movement disorder only happens when asleep.

  • My husband has this disorder, although he does not know he is doing it. He has had it for several years, and it is getting worse as he gets older. His legs thrash wildly at 30 - 40 second intervals, and sometimes he thrashes so hard he kicks me. I suffer more than he does, but he is tired everyday. I wish there was a cure.

  • Hmm, last night, my calf muscle repeatedly kept firing, even though my legs were still. And its a feeling of like pressure that builds up, if i dont move my legs - its like if i dont twitch my toes it feels really odd. It gets worse later at night, and occurs if i sit still too long, i just wanna get up and walk around or move my legs.

My dad had pretty much the same thing - always moving his legs e.g. jiggling them when sitting down, im 19 and any ideas what this is?

  • @monst4h your case is much different as it happens when you are awake. it is bad for you to have that problem when you are so young. better see a doctor.

  • Thanks for sharing.I have this too and was wondering what it actually looked like. I am doing it with my hands occasionally too!

  • i stretch my arms constantly under the pillows and under my partners head. i move all over the bed and have even woken up under the mattress. what the hell is wrong with me? any ideas, please help.

  • I had the exact same problem for the last 10yrs and cured it. I solved it by cutting out all alcohol and all caffeine. Caffeine is in all kinds of things besides coffee, chocolate, brownies, sports gels, drinks and so on. Cut out all of it, then eat foods that increase your dopamine. Be careful - caffeine withdrawal was bad for a few days. Read up - consult doctor etc. I feel much better and no twitching!

  • I'm sorry for your pain, but a side benefit of all the muscle twitching is that your legs look soooo strong!
