Listening to this makes me realize how absolutely musically spoiled I was during my college years, being able to perform pieces like this with full orch. at the drop of a hat. My community cjoir just combined with a Lutheran church choir and semi-pro orch. to do the "Hodie" and it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, esp. with the logistics involved. Never take music for granted.
We sung this piece this year in our mass choir. Such an amazing piece, truly the work of a master genius of music. Wonderful choir! Beautiful! Near the end I always got goosebumps singing, this is musically the glory and power of our Lord
@Jennalovesrainbows Jenna this was written by a public agnostic, probably an atheist in modern terms.Saying that, I absolutely agree this is beautiful.
@Jennalovesrainbows Hi Jenna, yes I agree. So long as people are free to question and express themselves and hopefully challenge the stuff they've been brought up with. e.g. had you'd been born in Iran - do you think you might now be a muslim? I suspect you might....................................
V. W. at his most bombastic. One of the great composers of the list century, but he wrote too much routine music on purpose. Compare this to his 5th Symphony---not even the same composer.
Excellent! I've heard another choir/orchestra doing this piece almost the same except for slowing down the last four "Sing Praises!" IMHO, here it goes too fast and seems like the conductor is hurrying, otherwise, it's brilliantly done.
are you doing i am not yours? or kalinda? or an elijah peice? with stroope? lol. i had stroope in NJ this past year and we found other states that did it with him and he uses a lot of the same music. lol

@KITCHENOFDISTINCTION Even if it was written by a atheist, the music can still be used to bless people and bring glory to God.

@Jennalovesrainbows Yes, I agree though I wish people just read more and really thought and questioned things more.

This is the song you can hear a bit of on The Beatles song Revolution 9 at the 7:05 -7:33 mark.

The text was subtlety set by Orlando Gibbons, and is a masterpiece. This is "house music". VW at his most commercial.

This is glorious. Thank you.

Most bombastic? Consider the text, friend.....

@shnimmuc I'm not a composer, but I understand that few of them have the luxury of turning down commissions...

Except for the trumpet introduction, the orchestra sure isn't playing very loud.

Trumpet? No.. Pipe organ.? Yes. But, yes the volume decreased dramatically after the introduction.
