I'd love to see a black Glinda. But question... The scene that opens into "What Is This Feeling?" Glinda says all that stuff about how Elphie is impossible to describe. Elphie sums Glinda up as being "blonde." If there was a black Glinda, what one word do you think they would have Elphie say to describe her (if she was black and obviously didn't have blonde hair)? Not trying to make this racial/racist. I'm just curious how people think they would switch things up to accomodate this situation...
I read the book first and then saw the show - I saw Alexia and my God, she played the part like how it was written in the book. It was freaking amazing :')
When I first heard Alexia on Youtube, I didn't like what I heard. Too girly, squeaky ... and far too many growls. But then I saw her and was completely and utterly blown away. She is now by far my favourite Elphaba, and IMO way ahead of Kerry and Idina. (and yeah I've seen both of them live, and neither gave me chills the way Alexia did). Her voice is so pure and powerful, but it's not a good recording voice. Given, she sounds not so good on recordings but don't knock her unless you've seen her

She's amazing, Her final performance in 2010 was better but she was only elphaba whilst kerry was elphaba in new york then she got the perminant role when kerry left. I love Alexia I saw her 2ce in 2009 and she was nothing but amazing so everyone knocking her please shut up.

I absolutely love her. For me, there is no better Elphie. She has a powerful voice that is perfect for the role, AND she's a superb actress. What's more, when she sings, she even puts on a witchy voice ... she's so in character!

as far as a final defying gravity goes this was ok. ive heard her do better in other performances. everything was pretty spot on but there wasn't a lot of passion and drive behind it. she was just kind of singing. she has a great voice but for a las DG i was expecting more from this talented woman.

This was her last DG before Kerry returned to London, and at the time, it was thought to be her last ever. But a few months later, it was announced that she would take over the role full time after Kerry leaves permanently. So Kerry has left now, and Alexia returned and SHE'S PHENOMENAL! But yeah, at the time of this recording, it was thought this would be the last DG from this girl.

actually, her power does match Kerrys. Ive seen both numerous times and it's just they have different voice styles, nothing to do with power. But Alexia is the only one of the London Elphabas that belts that top E with ease. And she's the only one who hits the low E in INTG with ease. Make of that what you will..

I disagree, while i know Idina not vocally the best by far, she is still brilliant. Plus it's not all about the singing, it's about whether they portray the part in a way that grabs you - that's going to be different for every person - but for me Idina has always portrayed the best Elphie and in my mind she will always be the best.

she did copy kerry, even in WITF she copied kerry when they say "For your hair" and then Kerry makes fun of Diannes voice and makes it high pitched and say "your voice" alexia copied that.
its "your hair" not "for your hair" and actually kerry didnt do the voice all the time like alexia, alexia changed it, made it her own and pulls it off consistently, much better.

I actually think it doesn't really fit anymore as as Dianne has lost the squeaky voice. So the fact Alexia/Kerry have both carried on doing it is maybe an indication that they're directed to do it as opposed of Alexia copying Kerry. And while we're on the subject, Alexia's Elphaba is like the total opposite of Kerry's. TOTALLY different.

@Mythologydude Idina didn't do it because she only ever played Elphaba with Helen Dallimore and she had a normal voice (unlike Dianne when she first began Wicked June 16th 2007). Which is when Kerry started doing the impersonation of Dianne's Glinda voice. When Kerry was with Helen she didn't do it. Lexi played Elphie with Dianne still on, only when Dianne had lost that high pitched voice. ALSO Kerry didn't do it when she was on Broadway with Kendra. So Kerry began it! Case closed!

No, I haven't seen her live, I'm in the states, but acting isn't something that get's skewed with being taped, like singing does. She seems very overdramatic, in my opinion.

The audios annoy me because they don't capture how powerful her voice is. Okay it's a bit higher than the usual voice for an Elphaba but it doesn't take anything away from her belt. The more I see Kerry now, it makes me realise that Alexia's voice definitely sounds stronger at the end of DG.. the only negative is that she needs to maintain the notes because sometimes she runs out of breath.. but hopefully she's been working on it since she's been away..
even though she probably knew she was coming back i thought she held back too much for a "last" show, the second bring me down shows she can really go for it

I disagree, while i know Idina not vocally the best by far, she is still brilliant. Plus it's not all about the singing, it's about whether they portray the part in a way that grabs you - that's going to be different for every person - but for me Idina has always portrayed the best Elphie and in my mind she will always be the best.

kerry is better at the 'loooook...' growl, but lexi doesnt do the growl there, she doesnt riff on that line does she? but her voice is naturally more growly, for example shes way better than kerry on other lines like 'to those who GROUND me...'

she did copy kerry, even in WITF she copied kerry when they say "For your hair" and then Kerry makes fun of Diannes voice and makes it high pitched and say "your voice" alexia copied that.

i've heard idina do it, ive heard sho do it. there ou go. two who started before kerry. Sabrina did it when I seen her too, Ashleigh didn't.
I actually think it doesn't really fit anymore as as Dianne has lost the squeaky voice. So the fact Alexia/Kerry have both carried on doing it is maybe an indication that they're directed to do it as opposed of Alexia copying Kerry. And while we're on the subject, Alexia's Elphaba is like the total opposite of Kerry's. TOTALLY different.

@Mythologydude Idina didn't do it because she only ever played Elphaba with Helen Dallimore and she had a normal voice (unlike Dianne when she first began Wicked June 16th 2007). Which is when Kerry started doing the impersonation of Dianne's Glinda voice. When Kerry was with Helen she didn't do it. Lexi played Elphie with Dianne still on, only when Dianne had lost that high pitched voice. ALSO Kerry didn't do it when she was on Broadway with Kendra. So Kerry began it! Case closed!

ok people have been doing the whole making fun of glinda's voice since Idina. that isn't new that's just how its done. it's the irony and hilarity of the line. im pretty sure that was something that was done from the beginning in the workshop for the show. Alexia didn't copy it from Kerry just like Kerry didn't "copy" it form other Elphabas. thats just how that line is usually delivered.

it seems you and me are the only ones on here who appreciate and love alexia the most. everywhere its 'shes not as good as kerry', even on her own videos! shes wayyy better. if alexia jad started first, people would be more loyal to her; they wont give her a chance. she is by far the best ive heard, im not even going to attempt to describe how much i love her. im seeing her in ONE MONTH TODAY, and i literally cannot wait XD

No, I haven't seen her live, I'm in the states, but acting isn't something that get's skewed with being taped, like singing does. She seems very overdramatic, in my opinion.

she doesn't have thr right vocal tone for Elphaba at all. I wouldn't want to see Wicked with her playing Elphaba. She is not a patch on Kerry Ellis. Elphaba needs a rich, powerful, belt voice in my opinion. Alexia doesn't have it!!!

The audios annoy me because they don't capture how powerful her voice is. Okay it's a bit higher than the usual voice for an Elphaba but it doesn't take anything away from her belt. The more I see Kerry now, it makes me realise that Alexia's voice definitely sounds stronger at the end of DG.. the only negative is that she needs to maintain the notes because sometimes she runs out of breath.. but hopefully she's been working on it since she's been away..
