  • Oh man, it's every Saturday like that?

  • I love 1:21 to.. actually to end.

  • i seriously prefer the shoggoth-version

    At least those cultists are honest and don't come up with such hypocrisy about happyness and peace while at the same time they wage war and stealing the land of poor defenceless people

  • @Jakovian12345 Where the h*** did you hear that one, or did you make it up? I don't know whether to laugh at that or not, even though it's probably supposed to be a parody. That's terrible!

  • @alika207

    Ignore those who speak in such a thoughtless manner.

    The song above touches the soul and that frightens some deeply.

    We however can enjoy it. :)

  • @ivlfounder you must be really twisted, to do so.

    thinking of all the crimes that where comitted in the name of god just makes me turn sick

  • @Myuutsuu85

    Yet you're ok with all those crimes committed to promote atheism, for money, out of lust and because the perpetrators can?

    Wow you're sick.

  • @ivlfounder the atheists never killed people, robbed them, sold them into slavery, stole the land from the natives, murdered the sovereigns of other nations (like the great saddam of iraq or salvador allende) or evangelized heathens with fire and sword. only christians did this. and now jews do the same.

  • @cloreal

    Actually they pretty much have.

    It was called the Soviet Union and you can learn more about it at your local library.

  • @ivlfounder

    Well their was quite a bit of nasty things done, really nasty but it still dont even compare to the centuries of abuse the religious have inflicted on each other

  • @mephisto279

    Don't you have anything better to do with your life than undermine organizations that are keeping people in your community fed and housed?

  • @ivlfounder

    what about molestation of children and the coverups made by the church thats been goin on since the 1100's you'd tihnk they woulda fixed that and where im from its mostly the government that takes care of the people who need housing and food not the church.Oh and the food bank which people donate to so...suck a lemon

  • @mephisto279

    Oh good grief another x-catholic who can't wrap his little mind around the fact that no all Christians are Catholics.

  • @ivlfounder

    never was a catholic or an kind of faith based plebian just a good historian and i know out of all the evil comitted in this world religion is at its for front, wanna know a fun fact? Hitler was a christian so go ahead and keep ur head burried in the sand boyo

  • @mephisto279

    LOL you're a bad historian and an even worse liar....well I guess you could just be a bad historian and willfully ignorant.

    Either way it sucks to be you.

  • @ivlfounder

    No i just repeat what my History prof with 25 years exp. on the subject says, im gonna bet that she has more knowledge on this subject than u or i so i use her as well as countless primary sources as my referances plus being called ignorant by you is simply laughable so no sir it sucks to be u now go home to your mama and weep like a little girl

  • @mephisto279

    Oh I see and your dear Professor (if she even exists) can't possibly be wrong?

    Go take a logic and critical thinking class before you waste anyone elses time with your worthless posts.

  • @ivlfounder

    yes she could be wrong but i doubt it when what she says coincides with primary source documents and other reliable sources with which historians look to provide insight into the mindset of that time period so you've not said anything credible these past comments at all so just stop seriously your just bad at this good day sir

  • @mephisto279

    And you know this how?

    Why because she told you so. lol fail.

  • @ivlfounder

    do u know what a primary source is dipshit? they are letters, articles and recordings by people who lived at that time ok my prof has no control over written pieces that are hundreds of years old . Why are you so stupid?

  • @mephisto279

    I'm so sure you've gone through all of them.

    (FYI that was sarcasm)

  • @ivlfounder

    well dur i didnt know that, cmon u havent said anything besides that im a moron so give it up u wanna learn go pick up a book im tired of u and dont even care anymore

  • @cloreal The Muslim religion is full of lies about the past. The Muslims sold people into slavery, still enslaves women, and was founded by a pedophile who married a 6 year old girl.....but, he didn't consumate the marriage til she was 9, so I guess that makes it alright, huh? You need to read the history of every nation where Islam is entrenched. It is a ruinous, damnable lie of a religion, and Mohammed is the biggest false prophet who ever lived. The great Saddam? Not so great now is he?

  • @CFMD28

    Think of it like this the old testament is christianity version 1.0, New testament version 2.0 and the Quran is version 3.0 the 2nd book is an addition to the 1st and the 3rd to the second, all religion lies it just depends how much and how often. and the Christians and jews were quite brutal as well if we look at the histories of all these people

  • @alika207 it's less of a parody, but more of an undeniable truth

  • @alika207 Google Shoggoth on the Roof - Shoggoth Prayer

  • I always come back to this scene...its all about a loving family, parents loving their children, wishing blessings and a good life for them...I wish these things for my children

  • May Cthulhu come to collect you, May He bring you madness and pain... Rising from the sea, to drive humanity Insa-ane! May you be like Dagon and Hydra, May you finally leave myths away Kill humanity and speak them to the charnel graa-aves... Come Cthulhu and shorten their lives!!! (May Cthulhu hear a Shoggoth Prayer for you!) Ia Cthulhu wan'ga lagh'en far'langh[Say he send [...] nightmares for you]
  • @Jakovian12345 i am suprised that you are the only one who made the reference. But surely is this, the Shoggoth version, to be prefered.

  • This is my favorite from the film.

  • My orchestra is playing this for our concert. I didn't know how the actual went at first but now that I've heard this, I feel very excited and inspired to play this at the concert.

  • Beautiful song....my favorite one from the film.

  • good -good

    ````queen joan ````la bayou
  • this video explains in the most sublime way why jews are so special and still survive-flourish! - no matter what. we try to avoid the strangers' ways. we cling to tradition. we pray to be good mothers and wives- not wealth and fame. the torah says that those who bless the jews will be blessed and vica versa. amazing how true that it is- any country that treated jews well flourished. those that tormented the jews went down the toilet. no secret why america is blessed!!
  • tears ago i meant to tecognize bette midler,but probably i was in deliryum.
  • AND KEEP THEM FROM THE STRANGERS WAYS 1:12  (DANG)
  • I think I'm going to ask to sing the grace at my family's Thanksgiving meal this year. This is what I plan to use.
    Several members of the extended family are fairly religious. I am not, but my music is my worship. I feel that this is a compromise that is both respectful and touching.
  • Shabbat Shalom and good Sabbath! Fantastic film!
  • Everyone stop trolling and listen to the beautiful, peaceful music.
  • SHABBAT SHALOM!!! great movie!!!
  • beautiful song :)
  • THAT DAUGHTER WITH HER EYES AT 0:29 xDDDDDD
  • I'm very very very beautiful song and a wish for all of our children
  • I love this play.
  • I love the ending the most. When Tevye does the Amen I get goosebumps because he sounds so amazing. The garbage pop and rap we have on the radio nowadays does not even begin to compare to this.
  • one of my fav songs from musicals!
  • We're doing this song for the HS Play, and I'm part of the choir, and so far this is my favorite song! I forgot how beautiful music can be :'(
  • I love the scene in the movie! It's a beautiful prayer, not to unlike the one I pray for my children.
  • The lyric is just so beautiful! A true blessing.
  • Always moves me
  • I'm a hardcore atheist and a musical artists, but that doesn't mean I don't make religious musics. Music is way to above the level where we can quarrel about faith.
  • I miss religion :(
  • @staystrongloveee HE's still there, all you have to do is open your heart...May you be blessed.
  • @imahaint I know and thank you :). I just mean I miss when people would come together like this and pray and it wasn't all about partying and who's better than who
  • @staystrongloveee It is what's in our hearts that He feels....remember that. All else is just extraneous junk that doesn't apply. You know His truth, for you, that is enough....Again, be blessed.
  • On my Friday nights off, I light the Sabbath candles. Feeling like the only Jew in Texas, I play this song to cheer me up. I need to attend shul more often in either Austin or Dallas.. seems like few Jews are left in Texas. :(
  • I'm Catholic and i've always been so moved by this part in the movie. It's so beautiful and uplifting. I've always wondered if my Jewish friends in America still do the Sabbath Prayer at sunset on Friday? Or like so many other things, it's slowly fadding away. I think a person of any faith can be moved by the Sabbath Prayer.
  • @Buffalobigboy69 I can say that YES, YES, YES people do absolutely still say the Sabbath Prayer on erev Shabbat (Friday evening). The observant family I babysit for, the father says the traditional bracha (blessing) over each of the children (and me when I'm there <3), asking that they should merit to be like (for boys) Ephraim and Menashe (Joseph's sons); or (for girls) Sarah, Rivkah, Leah & Rachel (the matriarchs). It then goes on the "may the Lord bless and keep you..." :-) it's beautiful. <3
  • Whether or not you believe in God (or gods, whatever floats your boat) can't you people just take the song in the spirit that it's intended? These people want the best for their kids and hope they'll have good lives. I think that's pretty much a universal sentiment, whatever the faith.
  • Best scene besides if I were a rich man!!!
  • weird Ruth was a gentile LOL but she followed her mother in law and told her that her G-D would be her's also. I take it that Ruth loved her mother in law very much and wanted to make sure she was taken care of, Naomi must have been a very special lady to get that kind of dedication from her son's widow after all she was fairly young still and could have simply stayed home and remarried. Im guessing it was Naomi's character that somehow reflected the G-D of Israel and made her want to follow her
  • @pdxeddie1111 forgot to mention this is my favorite scene thx for the upload
  • @pdxeddie1111 Indeed, Ruth could have gone home, the way Orpah did, and she could have found herself a husband younger than Boaz. That's why we admire her, and that's why she was honoured with being King David's great grandmother.
    What I find amusing is that they wish their daughters to be like Esther, who marries a gentile. Only they're not too happy when Chava follows this example. :)
  • @Galastel yes it is interesting isnt it? :)
  • @swimmy1000, excellent last post. My feelings exactly. Religion is supposed to be enrichment for the soul...not fodder for fights.
  • Chaim Topol was BORN to play Tevye. I couldn't imagine another in this movie any more than I could imagine someone else taking Marlon Brando's spot as Vito Corleone.
  • very emouving, like the all film/ très émouvant, tout comme le reste du film!
  • What a great beliefs, my God! This praying song go so deep inside me that transport me to the blessed land of ISRAEL. This pray, indeed makes me feel as if I belonged to the Jews family. MAY GOD BLESS THEM FOREVER.
  • @iutubesigning well anyone who obeys him gets blessed. there's no such thing as a free lunch with a God who is fair to his entire creation.
    (and if he isn't - why would you worship him anyway)
    you want a blessing then you have to earn it
  • Comment removed
  • "Favour them O Lord?" must have been subtitled in UK or Canada.
    Am I right?
  • Simply beautiful! It is every parent's wish for each child.
  • Representing the...more agreeable atheist community, I say, justforflag2, YOU DON'T NEED TO CHALLENGE THEIR BELIEFS... Whether we agree with them or not doesn't mean we should comment about it...They could be wrong, we could be wrong, we won't really know until we die, or..if what we believe is true, never.
    Whatever is the true faith, or whether there is a true faith can we all pretend we love each other and do what I THINK we came here to do. Listen to the music.
    If you want to fight, message!
  • @swimmy1000 Nice, I love it when athiests don't feel the nesscity to attack other's religion (I don't mean to steriotype the belivers in atheism, I've just seen my share of commentors who try to troll about how wrong religion alegedly is)
  • @swimmy and Staystrong... You got me in ONE SHOT! Congratulations! Thanks for proving it doesn't always have to be a hot or cold war...blessings wherever we find them at whatever hand, are all about RESPECT!
  • @swimmy1000 Just as you can suppose there is a God, you can just as so disprove it. The ideas that you use to understand something are the same you use to prove it's existence. Those ideas are who you are, they wouldn't change after death.
    You're wrong, we can know.
  • @superearthbender Once again, does it really matter?
  • @swimmy1000 For the sake of the torment of the lives children are torn through, yes. Obviously you didn't experience religion to the point of your death. Just ask a Muslim who sacrificed his life for prosperity and everlasting life. ..oh wait.
  • @superearthbender Here? Does it matter on Youtube while watching Fiddler on the Roof?
    I pity you if you feel such a dire need to argue at every little comment about religion. In the grand scale of things, religion does not matter, not here at least. Leave such awful debate out of this poor lads video! I'm sure this isn't why he/she posted it
  • @swimmy1000 I doubt reading the comments ever adds to the beauty of music; by your logic I suppose we should simply have them disabled.
    Idiotic ideologies need to be brought forth in the light of reality, just as everything else.
  • @superearthbender No, I'm saying listening to people like you deteriorates it. Good night
  • @superearthbender You can't disprove god anymore than I can prove him. Sure, science says that we came here because of this and that, (Which, I'm getting to, hold on), but there is never any hard proof one way or the other. On both side, they are beliefs and theories. Now, back to science. I'm a jew. But I also believe in Darwin, because it makes sense. Now, prove to me evolution is the answer to how, but also the answer to why, because we don't know why. we only know how.
  • @swimmy1000 Thank you! People should be able to appreciate music, art, what have you, without feeling like they're being drafted into a cult and having to express resistance. You are the kind of atheist I wouldn't be afraid to express my beliefs to.
  • @GuaBaby Thank you very much, that made my day
  • @swimmy1000 yeah! love, forgiveness by a loving g-d, an afterlife, doing good deeds to please God.Raise your children this way, there will be no more war.! They tried to kill us, Let's Eat! Good Shabbos, to all Happy Chanukka!
  • Ridiculous beliefs deserve ridicule.
  • @swimmy1000 I totally agree. I believe the relevant Biblical quote is Matthew 7:1 "Judge not, lest ye be judged."
  • @swimmy1000
    but we should not be so agreeable when religious practices harm or restrict people from what their human rights which is Not show nhere :)
  • i get chills whenever i hear this song, so beautiful.
  • haha Flame Wars are just too entertaining
  • such a wonderful song to show that no matter the persecution that the Jews faced in the anti-semetic tsarist Russia, the still stood firm to their faith.
  • Omg all these comments are replies!
  • the most well orated sabbath ever
  • @metalgearDavid - The Bris is one of the holiest commandments for Jews (and Muslims) because it is a reminder that we were _not_ born perfect, but I do agree that following rules doesn't necessarily make one a good person.
  • Another example of stupid rules. ( if God wanted me circumcised, he would have had me born that way!!) which im pissed my parents for chopping me. God has us born uncircumcised because we were born in his image!! again.. Stupid rules are man made!!!
    Just because Someone follows rules. Doesn't make them good people!!
  • @metalgearDavid God gives you the choice to obey His commands or not. He is not going to force Himself on you. Obey Him or don't, it's your choice. You're right. Following rules doesn't make them good. Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments. Matthew 7: 16 " You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? " If you don't obey what God commands but just believes in them what separates you from those who don't?
  • @MacKeigan2007
    God doesn't exist :D
    Most likely.
  • @justforflag2 Hope you you start giving God space to come into your life. God loves you and will accept your decision to seek Him or not. Just know it's your choice of what the outcome of your life will be. Revelation 3:20 " Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
  • @MacKeigan2007
    Hope you start talking about evidence, and preferably coming out of your mouth, instead of where it's coming from now.
    It's not about "giving God space" or "seeking Him out". If you have evidence, give it. It's the only way to believe anything! If we accept one thing without evidence, then we have to accept any claim without evidence.
  • @justforflag2 Take intelligent design. I'll use Mount Rushmore and the Man On The Mountain as examples. Say you had never seen/heard of Mount Rushmore and when you seen would you think it was designed or came about by natural causes? I should hope you would say no. One being it has high complexity and high specificity, thus implying it was intelligently designed. While the Man on The Mountain has high complexity but is lacking in high specificity so we can rule out it was designed.
  • @MacKeigan2007
    Yes, that is because we have seen similar things being formed by man. We have not seen anything man-made that is similar to how life is formed.
    After all, we have a very good explanation for the complexity of life that I would not hesitate to explain to you, if you so wished. Ignoring science and immediately ruling that it must be god is, simply, being intellectually lazy.
  • @justforflag2 Who said i was ignoring science? Science and belief in God work together. That's one of my points, if life is apparently not that uncommon or hard to do why can't man duplicate life? IF life can originate from a meaningless, unintelligent explosion with out cause why can't man make life today? All life originates at DNA. DNA, like the universe is finely tuned to operate under certain rules/coding. You need proteins to make DNA & DNA for proteins. These processes require energy(ATP)
  • @justforflag2 ATP is encoded in the DNA, but you need DNA to code for the ATP and you need the ATP to do ANYTHING. It's a closed loop that screams design and the 2 would of have to have formed at the same time and is impossible to happen over a period of time.
  • @MacKeigan2007
    Are you a genetisist? cuz if you are then i fear for your field, answers will be found if they have not been found already
  • @mephisto279 No, im not a geneticist. It's called common/well known science. The answers are there for all to see, the truth will always be the truth whether you or i agree with it.
  • @MacKeigan2007
    Whose truth, thats what it comes down to b/c your truths and mine probably differ b/c we see the world differently. But we can all agree gravity exists
  • @MacKeigan2007
    We can clone,we can't create a cell from not living materials. We don't yet know how to do it.
    And you do realize that life existed before DNA, right? If not, I suggest you watch cdk007's video on Abiogenesis and protocells.
    "IF life can originate from a meaningless, unintelligent explosion with out cause why can't man make life today?"
    -
    And you told mephisto279 that you have a general knowledge of science. *sigh*
    The argument from complexity SUCKS. :D
  • @justforflag2 Lol Abiogenisis is a hypothetical process that has never been proven or observed. It suggests that life formed in amino acid rich, reaction friendly and protected from UV rays. And again this doesn't explain life, it simply shows how amino acids MIGHT have formed. You asked me to start usuing evidence i hope you would start doing the same. Again really if all life needs to be formed is a couple random lightning strikes and some amino acid rich water then why hasn't man done it?
  • @justforflag2 There is no evidence that life existed before DNA. It is well know that DNA is the building block of life as we know it. It you want to make sensationalist claims then why not believe in the easter bunny and the tooth fairy. They are all as well documented and scientifically proven as your "theories"
  • @MacKeigan2007
    Goodbye.
  • @justforflag2
    Thx dude glad to know someone intelligent gots my back. You get a thumbs up :)
  • @mephisto279
    Are you not intelligent? Yes you are :)
    I told him "goodbye", because he seemed like a troll. He explained the big bang theory as an "explosion" and the theory of abiogenesis as "a lightning striking a puddle". He must have watched Ben Stein's EXPELLED.
  • @justforflag2
    thank you my friend. its a shame that some ppl will try to dirty the name of science with their god
  • Got your message ;)
  • @justforflag2
    Thx my friend. its a shame that some ppl would try to drag down science onto the same level as religion (in case you didnt get the last msg I dont no if it sent my connection went funny lol)
  • @justforflag2 To imply the universe came about by natural aimless causes and magically work perfectly together in unison is a ludicrous statement. There is evidence of intelligent design all through the universe to those who wish to see it.
  • @justforflag2 "Seeing is believing. But sometimes, the most real things in the world are the things we can't see." I respect your opinion but, you should respect other's opinions as well. You want evidence? We all may be seeing evidence all around you, but they may just seem like mere coincidences. Humans are strange don't you think? We think we know things, and then something else happens like a piece of foam destroys the entire the space shuttle Columbia.
  • @MacKeigan2007 just giving a heads up, the is a Jewish prayer, and last time I checked, the book of St. John's Revelation wasn't in the Bible.
  • @justforflag2 I was mainly agreeing with you and talking about the born again whose is commenting about a Jewish song which pisses me off.
    Sometimes I'm ashamed to be Catholic
  • @ILD2014
    I'm an atheist.
  • @justforflag2 that was meant to go to the other guy
    sorry
  • @ILD2014 Ashamed to be Catholic? Why? Everyone can get something from this wonderful prayer. Don't lump everyone together.
  • @MacKeigan2007
    Obey this Obey that if we are truly free ppl we should never have to obey anyone or anything blind submission is ignorance of what we as human beings are. Nothing binds us or guides our path our choices are our own and will not be judged, btw whose to say that ur god is the great creator hmmmm...oh w8 u have faith that disqualifies all sort of rationality
  • @mephisto279 Exactly you are free to do as you will. Just know that it will be your choice whether you are in Gods path of wrath or His mercy. There will be no one surprised if they end up in Gods judgements and in hell. It was their choice to choose or reject Him.Hebrews 9: 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" And no, God will not guide you if you reject Him, but if you do accept Jesus as your savior He will grant you the free gift of eternal life.
  • @mephisto279 It's not that i said He was the creator of all things, it's because HE said it. Im pretty sure God has the authority to speak on what He is and can do.
  • @MacKeigan2007
    My god says he has a bigger dick than your god.
    It's not that I said it, it's because He said it. I'm pretty sure God has the authority to speak on what He is and can do.
  • @justforflag2 Childish comments really makes your argument valid!!
  • @MacKeigan2007
    "He used fowl language! Mummy!"
    Grow up. My argument still stands, and is similar to your argument. Either we are both correct, or we are both wrong.
    Do you think that it's good to admit that your god is the creator of all things, but my god has a bigger dick than yours? Come at me, bro.
  • @justforflag2 Lol, i need to grow up because i didn't resort to infantile jokes? Ye,s you are correct. Your argument stands, but the problem is it stands invalid. Come at me with some intelligence BRAHH LOLOL U MAD? see look i can act like an insecure troll as well
  • @MacKeigan2007
    No argument is invalid because of the language it uses. Answer the question. Are both statements true or are they both false? I commited no logical fallacy there.
    And, as I told mephisto, I realized you were a troll when you started spouting Ben Stein's bullcrap about a lightning hitting a puddle and an explosion creating the universe.
  • @justforflag2 Can't we all just coexist as theater geeks? It's obvious that people who can only argue about religion here don't see the historical value of this play. This outlines a dark time in Russia's history where the channeled hate against one group.
  • @ILD2014
    This is a comment section. If you don't want to take part in discussion, then don't reply to an already existing one. And if you don't want to see replies like mine, then don't look at the comment section!
    Isn't it possible that I both enjoy this song AND reply to a comment at the same time?
  • Religion and silly rituals are man made. I'm a Jew! ( my name is David) and I think Religion was created by men period.. Being spiritual and religious are widely different. It's a shame so many sheeple don't get it!!
    The bible is so flawed!! ( does it make it wrong... No) And us Jews follow all these dumb rules!! My parents are the typical " we are victims routine" when they have shit loads of money?? Ok... I say. Evolution makes more sense!! Do I believe in Jesus?? Yes!! Does it label me
  • @metalgearDavid 1 Kings 18:21 " Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, "How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!" But the people were completely silent. " Religion is man made, Gods laws in His Torah are NOT man made. Gods word is perfect, your " opinion/interpretation " of it is what is flawed. How can you believe in Jesus and evolution at the same time?
  • requests to all to pray, enemities all bad evil budhies ( wisedom,) bad thoughts, be change to good & noble .and save every soul (atama) , (grand soul) paramatma , human , balas in back bones , kundlani power , every molecules .
    requests, pray and beg , please read full request . please come forward together to make to stop all the bad things,destructions of humans, lives , souls ( atma) , (grand souls) parmatama, are going on and save to everyone good or bad souls..
  • 01:16 : "And keep them from the stranger's way" Way to consider the stranger ... especially when you sing that at the very moment you choose to look at Perchik ... ^^
  • even though i am Russian orthodox this reminds me of god always :)
  • can we just enjoy this song?
  • This entire movie is so beautiful. This song makes me cry too.
  • some way of reconise the inteligence it is expresing any time you have the ocasion, thinking before talking make you more inteligent, listening and learn make you even more wise,for that reason moon and tree look down to the dog thinking, why in the neighbourhood dont you shut up, during the day he is a smart dog.
  • Moshiach is coming, you jewish devine soul is in exile! You need to get closer to Him and His Torah... Yes, you!
  • I love this song and movie
  • I think singing is work on the sabbath ^_^
  • I don't understand this argument over evolution. There is proof of evolution. IT IS A REAL THING. But whose to say that god didn't create the original humans which evolved into what we are today. My friend once told me that God create all humans in his own image so we were already perfect and had no reason to evolve. To that I say, evolution is not always for the better. Perhaps god did place humans here with a perfect design. But being the imperfect humans we are today, we lost it.
  • I wish more Christians would celebrate the Sabbath.
  • personly i beleave in neptune
  • This is one of the most beautiful moments in the history of movies. And certaintly one of the most wonderful scenes in Fiddler.
  • I was surprised to see that no one mentioned that Perchik went on to portray Starsky in the TV show Starsky and Hutch. I guess people viewing this video are too young to have watched that show or had better TV viewing habits than I did in the 1970s.
  • @anelymper I have no reason not to believe you, but what is your point, that the movie is cursed or something? Two cast members dying is not a lot of deaths, in my opinion.  I believe this movie was made in the 1970s, so it would not be unusual for one of the older cast members to develop Alzheimer's later in life.
  • @ChicagoSouthDan I checked online and the movie came out in 1971.
  • cant stop laffing 2:11
  • as a girl, or woman, "may god make you good mothers and wives; may he send you husbands who will care for you." (but also as an atheist and feminist) this fills my heart with warmness every time i hear it.
  • @pibolar There is a reason that this fills your heart with warmness. The family was the first institution and it was established by God. It's only reasonable that women have a warm spot in their hearts for a husband who would care for them. You might be surprised to find out that many Christians believe that God made women strong and capable.
  • i am a modern orthodox jew. i love the idea that i am continuing a 3,000 year old chain, and that my sabbath is just like the sabbath you see on the film. nothing changes- i love that about orthodox judaism. break the chain, and the religion disappears. thats why reform and conservative jews are intermarrying and disappearing, despite their good intentions. heart-breaking.
  • @ranchump I'm just interested. I am a Christian and Judaism is our heritage. Our Messiah was a Jew.
    What is it about continuing the 3000 year old chain that you love? I'm one who doesn't always appreciate change or care for the new music every Sunday in church or the loud sound systems. I appreciate the quiet time worship of our God. Sometimes I do like the new music, though, so change might not be so bad. David said to "sing a new song" to the Lord.
  • @GrammyPammy3
    i love the sabbath and holidays, laying my prayer shawl and phylacteries on my arm and head every morning, family purity laws, kosher laws...everything, really.
    i always found christianity to be inexplicable. its based on the old testament, yet it decided that some of the laws should be followed, and some should not. who decided that? under what authority? esp. when the the bible states explicitly all the laws are for all time.
  • @ranchump The reason it seems to inexplicable to you is explained in the "Book of Acts," where God tells Peter in a dream to accept goyim into Chistianity. They decide not to hold the Greek and Roman converts accountable to the Laws of Moses, but a rather more simplified code of conduct.
    Jesus ministry, in his own explanation, was meant to explain the underlying purpose of the law. Outward observance meant less to him than intent. Being good is harder than acting good.
  • Tevye is a wonderful example of what Fatherhood is like. I get choked up, as the father of two small girls, during this prayer. But my hardest moment is later in the film, her Hodel is going to Siberia to meet Perchik. As he leaves the station, knowing he may never see his daughter again, he asks the Lord to bless her and remind her to dress warm. That's the kind of prayer a good father will utter every day of his daughter's life.
  • @seasnake333 Your note is lovely. Tevye is very much like my own Papa, and much like any good papa.
    However, I think the hardest moment is when he chooses God over Havalah
    "my little Havalah, you were always a pretty little thing... on the other hand
    NO THERE IS NO OTHER HAND!"
    And she screams, and you know his own heart is breaking, but he does what he feels he must. He returns and says to his wife, "We still have 5 daughters."
    Oh after all these years, that scene still makes me cry.
  • @PTCello that scene makes me cry too. every single time. i love this movie!
  • thumbs up, if you were watching for black sabbath!
  • happy sabbath!
  • Shalom to all the Jews out there from your friend a Mormon!
  • Wow what culture!!! Top 3 of my favorite movies without a doubt. Such a good movie of faith and perseverance. Faith can get you places that's for sure! As can love and family.
