nah... I don't think One Rep. vocals is the BEST around, but he is really tough. It sounds good... better than John Mayer covering "Lover, You Should've Come Over" XD
dude, if u dont know what ryan can do with his vocals..check it out. He is definetely one of the best vocalists out there. In this performance he doesnt even show 1/10 of his vocal skills. He wants to do this song justice and not over-vocalise it.
@danielhellgren92 yeah, I don't really know much about One Republic, and it is really annoying screamer singers, those X-Factor productions, y'know? However, thanks for the tip ;D
amazing cover of an awesome song,,,,,,I{m very glad to hear this guys playing a jeff buckley song ´cause the hardest part is to express the feeling of jeff :3
Man..i don't know what happen to me... I accept see a band performing a cover by its and my favorite song... it's even cool to see it etc... but when the song is from Jeff I don't like any cover, ANY! Jeff used to sing his songs with so MUCH passion that I got used to it..and when someone try performing one of his songs it is hard to hear and don't get disappointing because it's not similar to Jeff =/
it's a good cover... i like both versions the slides in buckley's version are smoother... while i think i like tedder's voice a little bit more.... both good imo
Not a huge One republic fan, but you've got to give the singer (tedder) credit. He did a great job on one of the most difficult assignments you can give a singer. I think the band falls flat though, very stale delivery. Whatever the case it takes balls or stupidity to cover Buckley and this is a good job.
a "pop" band playing jeff... isn´t great? that´s for sure! because when the name to be claimed is JEFF BUCKLEY... the next words should ever be... "spread the light!"

anyone who pays tribute to Jeff Buckley and spreads his name is okay with me--if it takes a commercially successful band to do it --so be it--it is nice that Ryan Tedder stayed close, almost identical to Jeff's version, as no one could improve on JB's
taste--just realize that Jeff did both fantastic vocals and guitar work--who else could replicate this song as he did solo?
sounds like a cover band in the rehearsal space my band practices in. not good.soo many videos of jeff playing this live. just stare at his hands. i know how to play this song right. and i fucking suck at guitar..

you can tell the lead singer is a jeff buckley fan, he hit pratically every note, word and whine exactly as it is on the record, only someone who has respect for the song and the writer of it would change as little as possible, this dude even sounds like jeff sometimes!
jeff had a unique sound in him. his performances haunted me and it made me feel that he was more concerned with relaying the story of his song rather than hitting all notes correctly. his voice is just unique.
onerepublic's version is indeed clean and i admire his vocal prowess. however, it did not have the oompphh factor for me, for the reason that this made me feel that he was more concerned with sounding perfect and that's it. nevertheless, a very good cover of the song.
@indistar80 they did a pretty good job. Of course they don't have the unearthly touch of Jeff, but who the hell does? I don't think Jeff would've saw anything wrong with them covering his song he would've probably been flattered.
jeff buckley is my all time favourite artist, and i must say i never though anybody could ever decently cover any song of his. this, however, is a top effort.
@20centjes no it's not about opinions dude! it's about you being wrong now! I feel sorry for you and how deluded you must be into thinking nobody should cover a JB song! You should seriously be ashamed of yourself! Grow a pair of balls and have a nice long think about Jeff! He is what is this is all about! Seriously think! :)
@20centjes I got to know Jeff's music through a cover by a different artist and I went out and bought Grace the same day! I never looked back on it! A fantastic decision I made! I'm sure a lot people were in the same situation as me! So if you real think that music is going to be passed on from father to son, you must be kidding! im just really pleased that a modern band is bringing this song to the surface again .it might encourage more people to check out jeff buckley, which is fantastic. he is an AMAZING artist; one of my favourites, so props to one republic for doing a decent cover and supporting jeff buckley :)
Really nice cover. Jeff Buckley was one of the greatest singer/songwriters of the past decade and this was one of the best songs he wrote. And it is really funny the John Mayer quote because he actually covered "Lover You Should've Come Over" hahahaha (Don't get me wrong, JM is one of my favorite artists)
Are all of you (who are at home sitting behind computers) really going to criticize Ryan Tedder and 1R on this one? In my opinion Tedder is one of the best vocalists/ songwriters in today's thin music spectrum. One Republic has a ton of great songs on their first two albums it's a shame people only know Apologize and Stop and Stare, GREAT COVER!
yes that was (suprisingly) a decent cover. esentially though what i think it is thought is is a very elborate imitation. There are allot of very good versions of hellelujiah of course. just as valid as the buckley version, some inspired by it. when i listen to something like this all that happens is i go unhuh well thats allot of talent that has become basically just become afaint echo. after listening to its buckley's voice which reverberates inside (from live in chicago) I think mayer is right
Not a bad effort. People are too precious about bands covering songs by so-called 'real artists' . At the end of the day JB was just a performer (a truly great one) not a god. It should be taken as it is, a tribute by one performer to another one.
It's funny to see how artists that cover Jeff, even with their own style, are SO influenced by him in the way of singing his songs, even when they're not trying to sound like the original version.
Seems almost impossible to sing Jeff songs without having him in mind and do something different. Very good cover :)
Stop dissing OneRepublic man... they just wanted to pay tribute to Jeff... They learned from his music and now that they are succesful they want to give something back. I think they made the song justice.
Jeff is my favourite artist ever, but I can appreciate other artists as well.
what are you talking about...a bands public image and pop persona shouldn't discourage you to being open minded towards a cover of jeffs song, that was a good cover one any way you look at it...vocally it was perfect, it's not the original, but whatever, and the band was together.
@StreetMTBikers why does everyone always asume that people that cover jeff are trying to be better than him? theyre only paying tribute to a great artist wether its a bad cover or not. jeff would love the fact people a covering his stuff. all you haters need to chill out and have the "grace" J.B had.
ok, Im a huge fan of Jeff and I like OneRepublic, I think we should appreciate the huge risk they take by doing a cover of such a great musican, I mean It is really hard to do a cover of someone that sings so magnificant....so, great job, of course it is not Jeff, but I liked it.
I don't like the songs of One Republic because the singer is sometimes really horrible, but I'm impressed of this version! He sings it very well^^ Not as good as the original but I like it ;)
i don't have a computer and can only watch videos on my phone. can someone please post a mobile version of this PLEASE. i watched it at a friends and have been dying to see it again. thanks
The reason it's not identical to the original is that it's a cover, people. They change it and improvise intentionally. If it was intended to be the exact same thing, we wouldn't need to do covers.
jeez c´mon its a version....a version of the song, its not the song, is not jeff, but still pretty decent, music isnt mathemathics..is nature, can change anytime it wants to....long live jeff...one republic go on!!!
This is all wrong! they aint even botherd to work it out. its all played in power chords and stuff here. and the middle section before "kiss me, oh please kiss me" is nothing like it at all! not good...
As one who usually hates buckley covers, I think this is good. The cello really adds to their version, and they aren't trying too hard. I say well done.
Pretty decent cover, but there is enough trendy hair and clothing on stage to open a Trends R Us boutique somewhere in west LA. I think what made Jeff so appealing is how much he always insisted it be all about the music. The guy always looked like he got dressed in the dark and never had a mirror anywhere in his house. That's just my opinion.
@ilovepbandj i love this comment. Well Spoken. i mean look at Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Can you believe ppl think Jeff wrote that song. Ha. SO naive are the ppl today.
i'm reading all these negative comments by douchebags and it sucks. 1R is good, fuck off. Plus, it's sad that Jeff has these kind of fans...considering he was such a chill dude who loved music and he attracted a bunch of elitist pricks who are close-minded. i'm sure if there's youtube in heaven he's like, "seriously, what are all these people hatin on somebody covering my song"...
If someone's voice works better in a different key they'll transpose to perform it better. And it goes to show how much you know cause they both in the same key.
I wasn't talking about the voice- I was talking about the actual tunings of the guitars. It really isn't that hard to figure out that it's played in an open tuning, hence the comment.
Shesh, they are just showing their respect for Jeff by doing a cover. they know they aren't ever gonna be as good as Jeff. They are just keeping his legacy alive.
You can tell because they sound almost exactly like the actual track, not alot of their own style incorporated into the cover. Thats if they actually have style *rolls eyes*.
But yeah nowhere near as raw and beautiful as Jeff's playing or some of the other covers I've seen.
If you like this you might aswell just go listen to the track on Grace.
they're not trying to "match" dipshit...they're doing a cover because the like JB. Every artist wants his music to be covered one day - and by them doing this only lets more people in on who Buckley was. So shut up and go "love bam" some more.
Yeah, I'm sure Jeff would LOVE you throwing hate words like "faggots" around. Rethink, m'friend. I love Jeff too, but really, no need to be so hateful.
I love OneRepublic, but this was a horrible cover. The only thing that was good about it at all was Ryan Tedder's voice. He sounds almost just like Jeff.
erinxfs Eh..It got to No.1 in the UK and Irish charts. She did it more "Justice" then anyone else ever has! I know it was written by Leonard Cohen but I still think that people should be helping JB's legacy to live on!!
All you JB fans should be happy that people like 1R are carrying on his legacy!
Its people like 1R and Alexandra Burke that are making him live on! If you can't live with that and are always going to say bad things about covers then don't watch the videos in the first place! I think Jeff would like to hear his music live on! Don't you? Amazing Cover!!
His talent is great enough to live on without covers. Although I do like this one, I also like the Scarlett Johansson one {just saying} yet he didn't even write Hallelujah, and so the comment about Alexandra Burke is not relevant, and even if Hallelujah WAS originally a Jeff Buckley song, she did not do it justice.
I don't really care for one republic much . . nor do I ever encourage covering Jeff Buckley . . . however, I'm extremely suprised by how good this is. Cheers- I have a new found respect for them and I'm going to probably have to get a CD now. Thanks for the upload.
"There are two things you learn not to do in life. You don't push old ladies over and you don't cover Jeff Buckley." -John Mayer-
This is an excellent interpretation of this song. I'm starting to realize, after seeing comments like "not as good as the original..." or "nowhere near as good as" that people don't understand what a cover is.
for anyone who says bad shit about this cover shut the fuck up. the vocals on this song are soo fucken hard its not funny and he pulled this off so well also the band played really good to
the band is doing an ok job but the vocals are pitchy the first note isnt anything special... im not asking for buckley vocals, i know jeff had perfect pitch but at least something a little flashier like you said its a COVER not a mimic and thats all i feel im hearing
I think it's nice to see people pay their respects to artist from the past. Especially Jeff Buckley who died much too young. This isn't a bad cover, it's decent. You can't expect anyone to sound like Jeff, it's like comparing apples to oranges.
the guitar is way too loud and the sound doen't fit this song !! Singer was good :)

@StreetMTBikers why does everyone always asume that people that cover jeff are trying to be better than him? theyre only paying tribute to a great artist wether its a bad cover or not. jeff would love the fact people a covering his stuff. all you haters need to chill out and have the "grace" J.B had.
CrazyGerman08 1 year ago
ok, Im a huge fan of Jeff and I like OneRepublic, I think we should appreciate the huge risk they take by doing a cover of such a great musican, I mean It is really hard to do a cover of someone that sings so magnificant....so, great job, of course it is not Jeff, but I liked it.

Who's playing bass?
Pigtard 2 years ago
My guess would be it's the bassplayer.
JendaHrbac 1 year ago
He's not apart of OneRepublic though.
Pigtard 1 year ago
I don't like the songs of One Republic because the singer is sometimes really horrible, but I'm impressed of this version! He sings it very well^^ Not as good as the original but I like it ;)
molltophil 2 years ago
One of my favourites of Jeff Buckley...just so sweet and simple. Liking the cello near the end here...lets them put their own stamp on the song

i don't have a computer and can only watch videos on my phone. can someone please post a mobile version of this PLEASE. i watched it at a friends and have been dying to see it again. thanks
brandynfraize 2 years ago
The reason it's not identical to the original is that it's a cover, people. They change it and improvise intentionally. If it was intended to be the exact same thing, we wouldn't need to do covers.
thelettermanv 2 years ago 2
jeez c´mon its a version....a version of the song, its not the song, is not jeff, but still pretty decent, music isnt mathemathics..is nature, can change anytime it wants to....long live jeff...one republic go on!!!
cesardarito 2 years ago
This is all wrong! they aint even botherd to work it out. its all played in power chords and stuff here. and the middle section before "kiss me, oh please kiss me" is nothing like it at all! not good...
vocalist done it justice though! well done him.

OMG he sounds very very similar to Jeff. Of course Jeff's version always will be the best but...anyway I'm shoked.

I tend to despise bands who cover Jeff, but this is pretty good. I think he would approve.
bayushkibayu 2 years ago 2
As one who usually hates buckley covers, I think this is good. The cello really adds to their version, and they aren't trying too hard. I say well done.
kaym1020 2 years ago
Pretty decent cover, but there is enough trendy hair and clothing on stage to open a Trends R Us boutique somewhere in west LA. I think what made Jeff so appealing is how much he always insisted it be all about the music. The guy always looked like he got dressed in the dark and never had a mirror anywhere in his house. That's just my opinion.
geniusXpi 2 years ago 2
well put
oneless55 2 years ago
That's what probably made Jeff so appealing to you ;o)

wow that was great, finally a decent jeff buckley cover.

seeing as jeff was a master at covering songs himself, i'm sure he'd love the fact that people are covering his. people need to chill.

@ilovepbandj i love this comment. Well Spoken. i mean look at Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Can you believe ppl think Jeff wrote that song. Ha. SO naive are the ppl today.

@ilovepbandj love is not the correct term, but i still agree. however, no one else can put emotions in his words.

@ilovepbandj And this is an excellent, respectful, truthful cover too. A lot of talent and dedication and love went into this cover!

@ilovepbandj Only difference is he didn't do note-for-note covers.

i'm reading all these negative comments by douchebags and it sucks. 1R is good, fuck off. Plus, it's sad that Jeff has these kind of fans...considering he was such a chill dude who loved music and he attracted a bunch of elitist pricks who are close-minded. i'm sure if there's youtube in heaven he's like, "seriously, what are all these people hatin on somebody covering my song"...
ihavenolegs36 2 years ago 4
You think they would've done their homework and at least played the song in the right tuning. Yawn.
Plushboy17 2 years ago
If someone's voice works better in a different key they'll transpose to perform it better. And it goes to show how much you know cause they both in the same key.
CrazyCow500 2 years ago
I wasn't talking about the voice- I was talking about the actual tunings of the guitars. It really isn't that hard to figure out that it's played in an open tuning, hence the comment.
Plushboy17 2 years ago
In that case, my apologies.
CrazyCow500 2 years ago
Shesh, they are just showing their respect for Jeff by doing a cover. they know they aren't ever gonna be as good as Jeff. They are just keeping his legacy alive.
thedudeman4078 2 years ago
They're ok, nothing special.
MetalChicken911 2 years ago
drummers showin some ambidexteral talent haha this cover is surprisingly good. . . the vocal is spot on
Adzer427 2 years ago
this bands sucks!!!they shoudn't be doing a cover of a legend like jeff buckley!!!
vashthestampede1213 2 years ago
what the fuck are these faggots doing thinking that they can ever match up to the talent of jeff buckley,,no one ever could or ever will
ilovebam01 2 years ago
they're not trying to "match" dipshit...they're doing a cover because the like JB. Every artist wants his music to be covered one day - and by them doing this only lets more people in on who Buckley was. So shut up and go "love bam" some more.
ihavenolegs36 2 years ago 3
they're not trying to "match up" to jeff buckley, they're paying tribute.
markitymark90 2 years ago 2
Yeah, I'm sure Jeff would LOVE you throwing hate words like "faggots" around. Rethink, m'friend. I love Jeff too, but really, no need to be so hateful.
mojoryan 2 years ago
I love OneRepublic, but this was a horrible cover. The only thing that was good about it at all was Ryan Tedder's voice. He sounds almost just like Jeff.
briankelba 2 years ago
this. he sounds a lot like jeff.
mikepl92 2 years ago
erinxfs Eh..It got to No.1 in the UK and Irish charts. She did it more "Justice" then anyone else ever has! I know it was written by Leonard Cohen but I still think that people should be helping JB's legacy to live on!!
DanielD2513 2 years ago
All you JB fans should be happy that people like 1R are carrying on his legacy!
Its people like 1R and Alexandra Burke that are making him live on! If you can't live with that and are always going to say bad things about covers then don't watch the videos in the first place! I think Jeff would like to hear his music live on! Don't you? Amazing Cover!!
DanielD2513 2 years ago
His talent is great enough to live on without covers. Although I do like this one, I also like the Scarlett Johansson one {just saying} yet he didn't even write Hallelujah, and so the comment about Alexandra Burke is not relevant, and even if Hallelujah WAS originally a Jeff Buckley song, she did not do it justice.
erinfxs 2 years ago
oh man...i wish i hadn't seen this...stay away from JB.

You don't push old ladies over and you don't cover Jeff Buckley." -John Mayer-
crushme41dmb 3 years ago 16
...Did John Mayer really say that? Not a bad quote that. This isn't a bad tribute though. Good high notes, I liked it
chaos4316 3 years ago
haha I was surprised too. I was like "please don't completely murder the song!" Sounds really good:)
wellWTF50 2 years ago
@crushme41dmb Lol it's funny that John Mayer tried to cover Lover, You Should Of Come Over. Went against his own quote
landonech 1 year ago
This is an excellent interpretation of this song. I'm starting to realize, after seeing comments like "not as good as the original..." or "nowhere near as good as" that people don't understand what a cover is.
joe44907 3 years ago 3
for anyone who says bad shit about this cover shut the fuck up. the vocals on this song are soo fucken hard its not funny and he pulled this off so well also the band played really good to
LucasHunter13 3 years ago 4
Imitation is the best form of flattery. Way to go. :) Covers are indeed not meant to imitate exactly but to add their own tribute and personality.
sassrosas 3 years ago 4
the band is doing an ok job but the vocals are pitchy the first note isnt anything special... im not asking for buckley vocals, i know jeff had perfect pitch but at least something a little flashier like you said its a COVER not a mimic and thats all i feel im hearing
spiceforce5 3 years ago
I love One Republic and honored they would choose Jeff's song to perform. Great job boys!
Melissaem1 3 years ago 5
I think it's nice to see people pay their respects to artist from the past. Especially Jeff Buckley who died much too young. This isn't a bad cover, it's decent. You can't expect anyone to sound like Jeff, it's like comparing apples to oranges.
