Yes, the contrast is quite stark - but I do not believe that the idealization of tribal culture or hunter/gather societies is helpful. The human species as a whole is a curious bunch, partly due to evolution itself. Civilization in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but it becomes self destructive when short sighted policies lead to the depletion of finite resources, making future wars almost inevitable. Balancing desire with need (not greed) would be a good start.

I would never go back to the old ways. I can do more good in a technological society, than in nature. Actually I would go crazy, because of the lack of entertainment and feeling of progress. It's a lifestyle, though.

Our REAL enemies are not technology, it is a tool. The higherarchy is our real enemies, and they would gladly accept going into the old ways. This is what they want, because then "we" would be easier to control.
