  • those were just inflow wind gusts

  • A dying tornado is still pretty much alive.

  • that guy talking is so funny lmaoo. that tree came down on us and we fell on the ground.. ( shakes head ) i looked up i see a star in the sky smiling down on me, i said what are you smiling about, it came right down on us, i then looked for more skid marks but i had no idea what i was really looking for.. ( other dude ) dude i am so shaken by your story ( man and woman, we hd no idea u were recording .. ) but we are shaking thats all it counts.

  • 2:29 napoleon dynamite! lmao jajajaj, he turned around like gosh! watch what you are saying man. gosh!

  • sure it might not have been a micro burst?

  • At least you're out there doing something, not like some of the trolls here hiding behind a screen. Chasing tornadoes, you will probably live longer having some fear of them. Those with no fear usually have no sense as well.

  • @hostile177 But if they hide behind a screen, then they're even safer, no?

  • Great video man! Screw the "professional stormchaser" haters. You gotta start somewhere, and this is a pretty good start! Definately look forward to seeing more footage.

  • Good to see that your alive and whats it like being a storm chaser?

  • Good video. Dont mind all the stormchaser snobs. Its the same as going to the gym and not knowing the name of a certain excercise, the jocks get all upset. Or being among music buffs and not knowing the name of a new band. People are dicks sometimes because it makes them feel more important.

  • reckless thrill-seekers

  • I love the guy in the freezer telling a kind of horror story about how he saw a tornado pick up the 18 wheeler and all.... to me that is like telling about how he saw a guy cut up once when the dude from texas chain saw massacre is right outside! Watching it that is funny shit though!! :-D

  • Ha Ha! Well, inexperienced or not, you got some great footage. I wish I could hear the "horrifying sound" when the winds changed, but all I can hear is that whuffing noise you get when air blows across the mike. Not your fault; I have no idea what you'd have to shield a mike with, to cancel out a tornado wind. Anyway, amazing footage and you had yourself quite an experience!

  • @ncn8ochaser You clearly are far more experienced than me - my apologies.

  • @CyrusNixes: LOL, sarcasm win :-).

  • @CyrusNixes: LOL, good one. =p

  • @ncn8ochaser Who are you to judge the words people use? Yes the technical word may be a tornado. Every time you see a bird do you use the scientific name? Do you call a Robin a Robin or do you call it Turdus Migratorius? Do you call a hamburger a "fried cow?" Quit badgering people. Twister is a word for a tornado.

  • @summer817 Twister is a word for a tornado, yes... but it's not used in the storm chase community. Sorry to bust your bubble.

  • @ncn8ochaser I have no "bubble." I know its not used in the storm chase community. But that's really harsh saying this person has no business near a tornado just because of a word he used.

  • @summer817 Getting struck by a dying tornado is proof enough that he belongs no where near a supercell (at least at the time of this filming). Let me put it this way, what kind of moron stops to fuel up at a location directly in the path of the storm he just ditched? I rest my case.

  • @ncn8ochaser

    Sean Casey.

  • @Tahima11 Lol

  • @ncn8ochaser And which chasers have you chased with exactly, being that you are a storm chaser and a member of "the community"?

  • @CyrusNixes Doug Drace, Ashlee Busta, Lauren Heiden, Chris Hayes, Kris Hair, Amos Magliocco, Neal Rasmussen, and Michael Phelps. Most of the guys I've chased with are from College of Dupage. Anything else?

  • @ncn8ochaser Wow, you are an integral member of the storm chasing community!! I look forward to seeing all the tornado footage you've taken!

  • @ncn8ochaser So, if I take a class at this school, I can become part of "the community?" Will they teach me the proper terms to use? or will I end up posting video game footage instead of "twister" footage???

  • @ncn8ochaser

Just because you call a tornado a twister does not say anything about one's credibility as a chaser.

  • @ncn8ochaser

    Boo hoo. Cry more.

  • @ncn8ochaser You are an absolute snob who has no business commenting. Alot of people call them twisters, and besides, a name is just a fucking name. Get over yourself.

  • how was this a near death experience.....

  • So you have a death wish?

  • Beautiful! I love tornadoes. Someday I wanna be a storm chaser... I just love clouds and violent storms. Watching the beauty of one is my life dream!

  • On the rainwrapped V-funnel I saw, I was just to the east of the road that leads up to Hill City from Wakeeney, I was probably less than a half mile from that road when I could see that v-funnel during the lightning strikes behind it. At the time I was seeing the "V" it was south of 70. It seem to dissappear when it was near 70, that's why I was thinking it may have become a multiple vortex when it hit where you were. It would have been hard 4 me to see it because of the rain. Found som damage

  • (Continued from my last comment.) This was my first day storm chasing also. I also saw the Collyer tornado less than an hour before I saw the Wakeeney tornado. And I saw the other funnel(v-shaped) which I believe could be the one that got you in that near miss. It wasn't visibly touching the ground, but it was at least halfway to the ground. As we know, it could have been on the ground even though the condensation funnel wasn't visibly touching. If this is the one, makes 3 for my 1st chase day.

  • I saw this same tornado, unless a second spawned from the same storm. I was on I-70 and I pulled off at the rest stop which should be a mile or less from your location. I saw the first tornado cross I-70 by the bridge in Wakeeney. I also saw what appeared to be a second funnel wrapped in the rain. It only could be seen when the lightnig struck behind it. It was trailing from the south of the 1st one. I noticed it was dark in your video, I believe you may have been hit by that second one I saw.

  • I don't know if it was the Wakeeney tornado or another tornado in the same family. A chaser who was with me saw footage from that same gas station that showed a swirl of debris pass directly over the building. Most likely the screaming sound we heard was a multiple vortice that flared up right before the tornado weakened and passed over us.

  • Nice vid, nice documenting of events and keeping the viewer informed. 5/5

  • I have some of the exact video as you. What a week! back to back to back in KS... Storms were HAULIN!

  • I think every storm chaser who was there got that same shot of the tornado crossing that country road around sunset. It was my first ever tornado on my first day ever storm chasing.

  • Nice vid, keep it up....but try not to get killed.

  • ya it is Grlevel 2

  • so how did it catch you guys off guard... where you just not looking at the radar, or what?

  • I'm not sure how. They were looking at the radar - they always were. For whatever reason (you'll have to ask Jim) they did not think we were in it's path. It was raining and hailing when the circulation passed over us, which I am guessing is kind of unusual - meaning maybe the tornado had wedged itself into "the core."

  • Like you said about a jet engine,,there was a night tornado at a apartment complexI used to live at we were kinda near ohare, you usually can hear jets ,one stormy night a few of us heard what sounded like a 4 engine commercial jet gunning and stalling it's engines real loud it wasn't a jet it was a tornado, and we're looking up in the sky to see the blinking lights on the very low jet,lol when it got real windy everybody went in,then slamo.

  • I couldn't hear it.

  • What kind of weather radar software is that at the beginning this video??

  • I'm not sure, I don't own the software. It was my fellow chasers. I don't think it would be hard to find if you did a google search.

  • probably GrLevel2

  • Those people are risking their lifes for the science... they are truly heroes of the science...not like other peopel doing jack ass shit...

  • id do this job its crazy

  • wow, i live on the edge of tornado alley and don't like it one bit.. had tornado watches/warnings all day yesterday, i try to avoid what you guys are chasing!! lol!!

  • I wish I lived there. I'm sure it gets scary sometimes, but it also must be exciting.

  • I would love to experience this. As they say; be careful what you wish for...

  • Not really "near death".......always keep the camera rolling!

  • Sorry to disagree, but from looking at the vid, I don't think that what you experienced at the end there was a full blown tornado.

  • Understandable, but the chasers I was with who have been chasing for up to 30 years thought it was a "full blown tornado", so it's hard to disagree. with them. It was clearly lifting up as it hit us, but it caused heavy damage moments before. And the sound was definitely that of a tornado, probably a dying multiple vortice.

  • yah full blown tornadoes r known to do that

  • omg

  • THANK GODD!!! we don't have tornadoes in Newfoundland!! They are on my top 5 things that make me wana crawl into a spaceship and fly to the moon, maby there are some perdy aliens up there and i hear it has a GREAT view =]

  • its pretty scarey during a tornado.but at 2:12 i wouldve been yelling get in the fucking freezer people!

  • wow why the hell did oyiu not keep the video going??

  • Every day I have a hard time waking up because I didn't keep the camera rolling that day. My life is a mish mash of depression and regret.

  • next time be a good chaser and keep the camera rolling.

  • You interrupted the dude's cool story.

Man, your driving in that brings back some harsh memories, though.

  • thats awesome i wana be a storm chaser soooo bad!!!!!

  • i lived in grand forks northdakota for most of my life and parts of rapid city. i am now liveing in utah. it sucks. i dont see a lot of this down hear. i was hear in 1999 whean salt lake city got hit. i was only like 10 miles away. and one was all going on out over the lake and i was so high that day.LOL

  • aomeone should throw a camera into a tornado and see the beauty that lies within

  • I wanna see a tornado 2 but i cant=(

I live in switzerland and there arent any tornados

    unfortunately.

  • You might see one in Switzerland one day! But you should come to the States in May if you really wanna see one - or even just severe weather.

  • i think its impossible to see a tornado in Switzerland?

  • do you even get any storms at all?

  • Where? You mean in Switzerland or in my home state of Hawaii? Switzerland gets storms, especially in the North and East along the downward slopes of the Alps. Almost all are weak but a few have killed people. I looked this all up just now. Hawaii gets storms and tornadoes rarely, but mostly weak waterspouts.

  • you are braver than i am. i shit myself everytime i come even close to a tornado

  • Scary. At about 1:21 it looks like the tornado is about to cross paths with the cars that are headed towards your camera. Those guys must be crazy. . . .

  • Truth is the tornado was probably one to two miles away, and the cars were only maybe a quarter mile in front of us - so they weren't too close, although that was what I was thinking when I was watching it in person.

Apparently a few cars did get extremely close and atleast one person on youtube says they went right through it.

  • They are storm chasers. Is'nt that guy that was talking to that woman the guy that "I'de like to be alone I've got some thinking to do!

  • Haha You might be right, his story does sound real similar to what happened with that overpass tornado. But I think that hes probably to young to be the same guy - because that was 17 years ago...but that is creepy.

  • are you crazy that tornado could have killed you if i saw a tornado coming near me i would take cover i have weather and sound radio if we had a tornado in birmingham alabama the weather radio would go off i suggest you get a weather radio and don,t get caught in a tornado

  • We had much more than a weather radio. We had streaming internet feed from the NWS and live dopplar radar being watched by experienced chasers that I was with. It was just an unusual, unexpected incident. But thanks for the concern.

  • Goly Shit! you got some balls mate. :)

  • I Love this sort of movies

  • Thanks, Dingozr.

  • me to :)

  • This was my first "real" tornado as well. We were headed south down 283 attempting to flank it, caught a brief shot of it, and then got hammered by RFDs near Trego Center. You guys must have been in that fridge with Jim Leonard and quite a few other chasers.

  • I was with Jim from the beginning, but yes, he was also in the fridge with me, as well as two of our other chase partners.

  • awesome!!!

  • I don't really think it was a tornado that came through, probably just very strong occluding RFD. The winds were pretty rough but the tornado had lifted as far as I could tell.

  • Didn't you hear the tornado sound? And watch the wind completely change directions a few times within a a few seconds? Plus the damage that occurred immediately to our south was intense and localized. And there was a confirmed tornado starting a quarter mile to our NW.

I think the mistake I made in my video was saying it was the same tornado. I guess I meant to say same tornado family.

I was with old time chasers and they all had no doubt that i wasn't a tornado.

  • Man you have balls to be a tornado chaser. last week a tornado had hit Chapman, Kansas and I live outside of that town it was scary it was a BIG Son of a bitch for a F4

  • Haha! That silver Kia under the gas station at 1:58 is me.

  • Did you film the tornado as it passed over?! I am so mad at myself for turning off my camera - but I thought I was gonna die a terrible death.

  • You guys are nuts!

  • This is why when you start chasing, you team up with someone who has been doing it for a while and KNOWS what they are DOING!! Not only was this kid lucky, he was very stupid. How could ya have let yourself get caught in the path of the same tornado you were chasing?

  • I was chasing with experienced chasers - including perhaps the most experienced chaser there is. I was the only newbie chaser on that trip. And how did we get caught in the tornado? Hell if I know - it was outside of the conventional radar hook-echo.

  • I totally agree with you Max. Even the best storm chasers get caught in the bear cage or the tornado not meaning to. I can't help not to respond by with the comment that came from njluvpets. You are chasing with the best in the world in my opinion, and why does people have to leave stupid comments on here if they don't know what they are talking about. You are with some of the best experienced storm chasers out there, and the weather can change right away, and that happens.

  • Exactly!

  • Just curious...Just who do you think "the most experienced chaser there is", is??

  • Jim

  • Thats scarey!

  • dude that IS super super amazing and crazy but "near death"???? i dont think so

  • I think getting struck by a tornado at night and having to hide in a freezer is near death-esque.

  • potentially...yes! So, you not only got the thrills you were looking for...but a little something extra you didn't bargain for!

  • i was drving my car and then a tornado came right out of the rain and flipped us 90 ft off the road... i was fine jstu a little cut up...................lol jk jk

  • Another awesome edit Max! Your footage came out great! You had a much better vantage point for the Wakeeny tornado, being in the car behind you guys, my view was partially blocked as the tornado crossed the road.

  • goddamn, max, i can't believe you got to do this!

  • Great stuff! What a wonderful first day chasing. It must have been frustrating stuck in that freezer, next time stay outside and let it suck you up, but keep filming ;)

  • I kow I'm so pissed I stopped filming! I guess filming was the last thing I thought of when I believed I was going to die. Jim Leonard (you must know him, hes who I chased with) says he might have filmed the good stuff.

  • Dude your so lucky you survived and im glad you did keep up your career

  • Hey this is Nathan and Welcome to my home state of Kansas man. Wicked weather here. I just wanted to say congrats on your first chase out here in the plains. But I also wanted to tell you that It is very dangerous, and the storms can change direction at anytime and they have no mercy on anything.

  • I feel that it is a great experience to see a tornado, but you don't want to be on the wrong side of one, and you want to be aware at all times where your location is, and to find a way out of its wrath. Be careful out there, and I know that you would like to be around to chase the next storm. I just wanted to tell you that I care, and hate to see that your first storm chase was a close call. But take Max.
