  • Like, I am seriously appalled by those 16 people. I want to hunt them down. Force this upon them on a loop for 16 years until they forget their language and can only sing this song to communicate. Then I'll make sure they are alone forever. Because they will never see the light ever again.

  • @pigreenk07 I'm seriously appalled by all the people commenting on this video mentioning nothing about it but the "16 people who disliked it" in a cheap attempt to to get thumbs up. I looked in the comments to see people talking about the music, not whores circle jerking for thumbs up.

  • Lady Peters, I made mistakes.... Is that true no one is alone? I'd hug them all and cry on thier shoulders.

  • @Woofers617 I think you mean Helena Bonham Cater* reminds you of Bernadette Peters* ;)

  • love this woman <3

  • 16 people are completely oblivious to the magic in her voice.

  • Why does she sing songs in such low keys when she has a naturally high soprano voice? Even her speaking voice is at least a third higher than she usually sings in... very odd.

  • Rita sing it up! I loved her in WB's Animaniacs in the mid 90's as a singing cartoon cat with Runt.

  • Who dislikes this kind of stuff???? This is true talent.

  • I was gonna get upset about the 16 dislikes, but then I remembered these lyrics: "You decide what's right. You decide what's good." So I gave 'em a pass. THIS time...

  • This is so reassuring. Thanks.

  • I just love her

  • @tksoft

  • Tksoft Dot Com Dot Ar

  • Shivers, the whole damn time. She has such a lovely voice.

  • Shivers, the whole damn time. She has such a lovely voice.

  • This is a truly exquisite performance of this enchanting song. Bernadette Peters is so able to express a depth of feeling in the song that so few can. There is such a feeling of endless space and at the same time responsibility and sadness and everything else. I loved watching her perform this and cant believe it has had so few views!

  • WOW !! BRAVO !!!! Wonderful !!!

  • What I love most about this performance is that when she sings "we can make it so" at 4:11, you literally feel as though she is speaking to you personally, even through a computer monitor. No one connects so perfectly to an audience as Bernadette. It's just astonishing.

  • Incomparable!

  • @onlysuesanfostergood. Seriously?

    YOURE A COMPLETE IDIOT!

  • I did a cover of this for my school's Christmas Concert. Would really apriciate if you could spare a few minutes to listen. Thanks xx Just tag this on the end of youtube.com /watch?v=7xiK0xvIelc&feature=g-u&context=G265366cFUAAAAAAANAA

  • Hey - does anybody know what key this is in??? x

  • @AxNxDramatic G Minor.

  • This is my favorite piece of music ever. Steven Sondheim is an absolute genius and Bernadette simply owns in this. Fantastic and powerful lyrics that are almost uncomfortably personal to me. Such winning. Such winning.

  • I'm covering this for my schools Winter Concert! Incredibly nervous but looking forward to it all the same :D

  • Bernadette Peters should stop following in the incredible SUTTON FOSTER's footsteeps! She can't sing, she can't dance, and she can't act. Sutton Foster is better in EVERY respect. Younger and prettier, too!

  • @onlysutonfostersgood Sutton Foster is incredible, indeed. INCREDIBLY OVERRATED! Sutton Foster has a squeaky voice, mediocre dancing skills, and hammy acting. Plus she's ugly and anorexic. She's NOTHING compared to Ms. Peters!

  • @onlysutonfostersgood I do agree that Sutton Foster is good, however Bernadett Peters has been acting and singing much longer than her and is also incredibly talented. Saying that Sutton Foster is following in the steps of Bernadette Peters is like saying that Harry Potter copied Twilight.

  • @onlysutonfostersgood What kind of statement is this!? It makes NO SENSE. Like you said, Sutton is YOUNGER. So, if anyone is following in footsteps, it would be Sutton! Sutton Foster is AMAZING! That's undeniable. But, Bernadette came before. Pay respect. Bernadette is BRILLIANT. How can you say she can't sing or act????? As for a dancer, she's never claimed to be one, yet, has amassed an incredible career both on stage and screen. Ever heard the saying "Respect your elders?" :-) That's all...

  • So much talent. During her concerts, she connects with everyone. She is indeed, A Star :-)

  • Beautiful voice, beautiful dress! <3

  • Sondheim, you are without a doubt a musical genius.. This is about the most beautiful song that has ever been written.

  • Boy I almost forgot about her! ;)

  • it happens every time--she opens her mouth and i get goosebumps

  • This was quite beautiful. Thanks for sharing. =)

  • Super! Excellent song! Wonderful voice! Everything is lovely in this video-clip! Thank you!

  • Totally, absolutely beautiful, made me cry. Fabulous.

  • her speaking voice is so cute.. and a great singer she is

  • Lilly Langtree reborn I think..YUP.! G-G

  • @bigggstarrr ??annie are you kidding

  • how can this woman be 63 and look 25??fuckin A

  • 14 people are alone.

  • I love her, but I'm not a fan of her dress AT ALL! Sorry, but it just looks like it's gonna fall off...

  • I love how rubato this is. <3 She's fabulous.

  • this is magical. i completely understood what she was singing. shes jus gorgeous...

  • ahh bernadette you are flawless in everything......and SOO HOT BTW

  • Simply divine

  • Oh. My. God. Chills.

  • @Woofers617 I TOTALLY SEE WHAT YOU MEAN! I thought that too!!

  • for some reason she reminds me of helena bonham carter.

    not a bad thing:)

  • @Woofers617 Like Helena Bonham Carter and Susan Sarandon.

  • @Woofers617

    except bernadette peters can sing

  • @Woofers617 I've felt that, too. I think it's the bone structure int he face and the hair...

  • @Woofers617 I was thinking the same thing lol

  • Passionate talent. True beauty, true talent, born performer.

  • She is flawless.

  • Bernadette Peters is amazing, period. Her version of this song is just amazing. Simple but emotional. Bravo, bravo.

  • she reminds me very much of Stephanie Weir

  • I love love love Bernedette Peters! <3 And I ador into the woods:)

  • i want her on gleee

  • Omg! You people! THIS IS A REAL BROADWAY STAR!!!!!!!!!

Only the ignorant would not understand thhis fact.

  • i only kno her from playin the stepmother on cinderella

  • @dreamofdancing13 I'm pretty sure she played the witch though....

  • Comment removed

  • @beeka514 she did play the witch

  • i feel kinda creepy saying this but she is adorable

  • I think you and lots of people think she's attractive. No reason for you to feel creepy.

  • Peters and Sondheim: myth, metaphor, connection. Just amazing

  • Comment removed

  • This is a lovely arrangement and Bernadette has such a beautiful voice. I will definitely be looking out for her next time she's in London...

  • I love you Bernadette! so much! I wanna hug ya lol

  • What an amazing rack. :)

  • @Zed1967

You must have been covering your ears while playing this to only notice her rack.

  • @mrshackztor

I didn't say I only noticed her rack.

  • @Zed1967

Well it's the only thing you commented on...

  • The Baker's Wife sings the part "sometimes people leave you, halfway through the woods" to the Baker after she has been killed by the Giant's Wife, when she also tells him "tell him the story of how it happen, be Father and Mother...you'll know what to do"....when the Baker doesn't know how to go forward without her

  • ..."sometimes people leave you, halfway through the woods" is repeated when Cinderella is reassuring little Red Riding Hood and THIS is the piece Bernadette Peters is singing here. She didn't sing this in the show because she was the Witch, the first, best and ONLY Witch IMO.

  • I had the distinct pleasure of hearing Ms. Peters sing this and many other songs at the Mount Baker Theatre two years ago. I have been to MANY concerts from Rock to Jazz to Show. Her's may have been the most emotionally moving I have ever attended. She shines like a light and opens her heart to anyone willing to feel her.

  • I'm going to watch Into the woods with my Drama group later^^

And my vocal instructor tried out this song with me during our lesson this week by coincidence, and I really loved the meaning of the song,so I checked this out :) She's gorgeous and a beautiful personality and voice!

  • Amazing song, by an amazing woman. Miss Peters personifies grace and class, and no one says it better than Mr. Sondheim.

  • the first time i watched "into the wood" this song and "children will listen" made me cry. <3 Bernadette Peters.

  • Ms. Peters just gave me a master class in how to interpret and perform a song. What a wonderful pairing: Peters and Sondheim. I remain in awe of them both. If this country had more class they would both be named National Treasures.

  • @4gregorysf Bernadette is your voice teacher??! LUCKY!!!

  • shes hot!

  • It just goes to show that you dont need loads of vocal acrobatics and belting notes to show off your voice. Bernadette is just perfection here. Her control is incredible and the emotion in her voice is amazing

  • I have been such a big fan, since i was about 3 or 4 years old when I first saw her on the Muppet Show. She still looks as beautiful as ever. I felt really bad for her when I heard that her husband had been killed. I'm so glad she's managed to just keep going and doing all the wonderful things she does.

  • What an absolutely amazing voice and talent! I love her voice and interpretation! flawless! She puts such heart and soul in her singing! Bravo Bernadette!

  • Shes so amazing - inspirational!

  • a hauntingly beautiful performance of a hauntingly beautiful song.

  • and that's how you do that

  • DAMN look at those titties

  • @nthnsmpsn

DAMN, listen to that voice, and look at that adorable face.

  • She's so adorable! Beautiful in every sense of the word! I'm not kidding, tears came to my eyes about 2 minutes in. :)

  • I love Bernadette, but i'm not sure about this arrangement, i think i prefer the original song (which i love)

  • I love her and her voice and her hair-- but what's up with her teeth?

  • @jldissel What do you mean? Her teeth are gorgeous, just like the woman they grow inside.

  • How can one not love Ms. Peters? What a lovely lady... incredibly warm voice, fantastic performer. She blesses the stage and the earth! :)

  • I LOVE HER VOICE AND I LOVE THIS SONG ALSO...MY SCHOOL JUST DID THIS SHOW BUT NOTHING COMPARED TO THIS AMAZING HUMAN BEING!!!!!!

  • ZOMG i lover her! Amazing voice, hair, acting, and person! <3

  • Bernadette Peters is a GODDESS !!!!

  • "-But I didn't sing this song in the show," ... "but I love this song, and I figure what the heck, this is my show now and I'll sing whatever I want!"

She's so cute! and a great singer.

  • ewwww her dress good singer

  • why is she so amazing......im puzzled

  • @zlevine14 She is Broadway royalty ..... Are you kidding me ??? She has one of the most amazing voices ever!

  • Who ever dislikes this is LITERALLY TONE-DEAF!!!!!!!!!! I Love Bernadette Peters! Most amazing mama rose

  • Am I the only one who thinks the piano sounds kind of... off? o____O

(I don't remember this song, at all! I can't find it on here, with Joanna Gleason.)

  • @Kari166 it's towards the end of the play after everyone dies, and cinderella starts to sing it to red riding hood, and then the baker starts singing it to jack before they kill the giant

  • @narusakufan202, huh! I thought the Baker's Wife sang it to The Baker after she was killed...

  • @Kari166 yes she sings kind of like a reprise version after the giants dead

  • In all honesty, I can't watch this without crying. bernadette has outdone herself yet again.

  • Bernadette stated in a recent interview that this was her favorite song that sondheim ever wrote. I feel she is entirely justified.

  • This is a flawless performance. The 12 people who hit "dislike" need to do some serious soul-searching or something, because it's FLAWLESS.

  • Beautiful!!

  • She has the most emotion out of any singer I have ever heard. She is not a normal person. We are blessed to have her in this world.

  • this song speaks to me so well.

  • ....wow....just wow...so good, its....just wow.

  • <3 her voice is always fantastic. But... what was she thinking with that dress exactly?

  • On my short list of favorite HOT CHICKS of all time! Oh yeah--talented and funny too! Did anyone not love her in "The Jerk" with Steve Martin?

  • @willong1000 what was that movie about , cause i wanna see it ? [: only cause of her though.

  • @011FunnyBunny my school actually just put the play on. its pretty much every fairytale ever together.

  • @011FunnyBunny, Ha! I guess there must be a generational gap here, and I tend to forget that not everyone has seen a 30+ year-old movie! Anyway, it's an absurdist comedy featuring Steve Martin in the title role (his first starring role in a movie). Google "The Jerk" and you'll see a link to an Wikipedia article that will describe the movie in detail. Hope you enjoy. Together with "Blade Runner" and "The Man Who Would Be King," it is one of the few movies I care to view more than 1-2 times.

  • @willong1000 Apart from teh amazing script (they don't make comedies anymore) - she was the best thing in The Jerk. It takes a brilliant actress to make the audience believe sanyone could love Navin R Johnson other than his mother.

    "These cans are DEFECTIVE !"

  • I don't know why people assume this is a recent video, it is from 1998, we actually had good cameras and recording equipment even back then. So anyway yeah she was 50 and looked great

  • @farneyblakeley She's 50 in this ?!!!

  • @Nautilus1972 Yes, I"m ignorant of Broadway but saw her on Inside the Actor's Studio ten years ago. I was so impressed with her performances I bought her live Sondheim cd and it remains one of my all-time favorites. I couldn't believe how good she looked then at 52 either

  • hold up...this is ridiculous...how in the hell could she be in her 60s in this vid? No lie, she looks in her late 30...early 40s max! Those are some amazing genes she's working with. And those titties look nice, btw. Mad love from the west coast, mrs. peters.

  • i love her so much<3

  • i have her in Into The Woods on video and she was always my favorite character since i was little

  • this chick is like almost 70. like WHAT THE EFF???!!!! SHE'S INSANE!!! I LOVE HER!!!

  • @toughcookie5454 She was born on February 28, 1948. (Current age is 63.)

  • "...sometimes people leave you, halfway through the woods..." awwww :'(

    im weak.

  • Amazing performance!

  • I think that we need a Show of yours in Sydney or Melbourne

  • Just saw her last night in jacksonville, this song was the first on the list... and im not ashamed to say I teared up. and it was only the first song!

  • fierce bitch is fierce

  • Amazing song and performer! Love Bernadette Peters:)

  • love it...is this. o

  • @ProLit Back under the bridge with you troll.

  • @ProLit

What in god's name is wrong with you ?! Go take a walk.

  • @ProLit

What in God's name is wrong with you ?! Go take a walk.

  • @ProLit I'm sure I already know enough...and I know what I'm talking about. Besides, I'd be cautious about taking advice, or listening to someone, who can't prove their "point" because they lack the articulation.

Bernadette Peters is gorgeous and sexy, and is WORSHIPPED in the Broadway community. The only thing about her more impressive than her beauty is her talent.

Perhaps you're the one who will "learn one day", as it's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • @ProLit Yeah, you're wrong. Sorry, it's not a matter of opinion. You're just wrong.

  • I dream of the day I get to have my own concert, wear incredibly sparkly dresses, and sing whatever song I want and people will just adore me for it. Thank you bernadette, for helping me realize this goal :)

  • I sang this song at a memorial for my cousin who hanged himself. The words were very comforting in that situation. On a happier note, Bernadette Peters is absolutely without peer in this material!

  • I love it when jealous women say "ew her boobs! cover them up." you got a nice pair, show 'em and piss more women like that off :D

  • Ew her boobs! Cover them up.

  • Wow! I saw this show when it played in Boston after leaving Broadway, amazingly profound and insightful.

  • Still Traveling Along

    The girl of my dreams

    sings to me sweet songs

When I travel she always comes along

When I make love she is my only song

There is no dream but her

Now that we are still traveling along...

    M.S. Morrison

  • i hope i can do that and look like her when I am 62!

  • The way Bernadette sings this song gives me chills....

and this version made me realize how heartfelt and true Sondheim's lyrics are in this show.... i am obsessed

  • @lilmermaidLov3r I'm pretty sure its a wig. Saw her in a grocery store in the 1980's and she had short hair. It doesn't matter she's an ICON of Broadway!

  • @joeA2000 No, that's her natural hair. It's one of her trademarks. In the 70's and 80's, she experimented with different styles (she was blonde at a time), but this is her natural hair. She returned it to its natural style when she began doing Broadway again. It looks the same now.

  • Bernadette Peters is my hero.

  • i love you, bernadette....

  • favorite musical ever! and bernadette peters=awesome!!

  • a truly beautiful rendition of a beautiful song, beautiful...

  • Bernadette opened with "No One Is Alone" in Nashville a couple years ago. Talk about playing your big cards first. The mark of a true artist: she delivers the song as though she's thinking of the words in the moment, as though it's organic. Like teaching a lesson.

  • I take care of my wife. She is a diabetic. Twice this pass year she got ill. She sometimes tells me to leave and find another. I always tell her that some one cares about her. Pointing to me. She doesn't smile yet she grabs my hand.

    TY Bernadette......

  • I really wish (and by that I mean I really don't) that she would look her age. Like, damn, preternaturally preserved! Does she have a single wrinkle?

Shallow jealousies aside, yeah, her voice is still frakking amazing. I'll never get over it.

  • @miridove I was just thinking the same thing. How does she still look so fantastic?! What's her secret?

  • @beansprout85 how old is she???? i know this video isnt that recent but into the woods was in the 90's and ChaCha says that she was born 1948 which can't possibly!!!! be right because that would make her sixty two

  • @cewldudette "Into The Woods" was in the 80's, actually, heh. But yep, she's 62. 63 in about a month. Somehow, looks
