  • Where the hell did Michael Wincott go? He is such a good actor. He should be in everything!

  • i can run this tune all day and never get sick of it... Flamenco Sketches...Miles...

    RIP...

  • Klischee bow wow wow Mr. Schnabel - you never have been his friend

  • Black Existentialism ...

  • Beautiful movie and a wonderful performance by Wright.

  • was this a good movie? I am a Basquiat fan yet I haven't seen this movie yet

  • L'atelier...le rêve de tout artiste...

    + qu'un film c'est une oeuvre d'art...Bravo Julian Schnabel !!!

Je vous invite à voir mon travail d'artiste fou !!! "Bad painting"

    O.Malagamba

  • no Gerard Basquiat would not allow Julian to use actual paintings by Jean...for the movie.

  • this movie rox. it had a great ensemble cast

Gracias!

  • Jeffrey Wright is a major, major talent that we don't see enough of! He was great in Broken Flowers

  • Great film!!!

  • This film is wonderful! David Bowie is hilarious, and J.Wright perfect.

  • Does anyone know what this song is called?

  • it's on kind of blue

  • Flamenco Sketches

  • Miles Davis does the first song I believe, the other after the word "base" is " White Lines", by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five... really great movie ehh? Happy solstice!

  • I was always curious as to why Basquiat writes rene's name and then paints it out after he leaves with milo.

  • Mistrust. The painting was for Rene after he convinced him that he was not just jiving him ("I may be white, but I'm a nigga."). When he left with Milo, Basquiat felt he was just an opportunist and not a true friend; another leech in a series/sea of leeches.

  • jeff wright did one hell-a-va job in this movie ,need to get this on dvd,and soon..

    very underrated as an actor.....

  • He was fabulous in W. as Colin Powell.

  • Well, he is black. Black actors are overlooked. Period. That's how it is. If he was white, he would be a household name, getting way more roles and have been in all of the magazines. Hell, a white actor or actress does one movie and hosts SNL a month after it's released.

  • samo shit

  • my favorate scene :)

  • SAMO IS NOT DEAD

  • everyone here should read Hoban's book, if you haven't already.

and pick up all the good Basquiat monographs.

that's all i have to say.

this movie, though good, is not the be-all end-all of who Basquiat was.

  • Hoban's book was very good, a more indepth introspecive into who Basquiat was.

  • Thats true I like reading the book better than watching the movie.

  • everyone here should read Hoban's book, if you haven't already.

and pick up all the good Basquiat monographs.

that's all i have to say.

this movie, though good, is not the be-all end-all of who Basquiat was.

  • Great clip and decent flick, but be careful before forming opinions... Schnabel had his own take on Basquiat and the 80's NYC art explosion. His film leaves out many indispensable aspects of JMB's life which should have been included to give unfamiliar viewers the big picture...

  • Exactly, in this flick they portray him as a self absorbed a**hole who was concerned about his own way to go to fame. However on things I've read about him many say he was a warm hearted guy.

  • Put the whole movie, please?

  • attention ! génie

  • This is my favorite part of the movie, nothing like an artist alone in the studio at the time of inspiration with music. As far as the movie, i dont know, i wish it would have gone more in dept, alittle bit tougher, show larry Gagosian, kieth harring, schnable should have used his own name instead of albert milo.

Keep it real, basquiat was alot rougher than hes portrayed. even jeffrey wright said it.

l love it but it lacks power. REMAKE!!!!!

  • I think Schnable tried to keep the focus off of Basquiat's (eccentric and sometimes caustic) personality and to keep the momentum of the plot on the magic of Basquiat's art.

  • who's the person in the blue shirt meant to be?

  • If you watched the movie he's the famous art critic, Rene Ricard, the guy who jump started Basquaits career

  • alright, well i need to see the movie then.

  • whats the name of that jazz piece in the begining of the video?

  • M with a capitol M...big boy...have a day in Jammy ville

  • flamenco sketches by miles davis

  • i love this movie, jeffrey wright is mesmerizing in basquiat

  • Such a complex, bright yet caustic character. Such a vivid movie to illustrate Basquiat's vicious inner demons. I love this movie

  • great movie, great actors, it makes you laugh and cry but most of all (for me) great michael wincott

  • -Are you a writor or a white writor?

This really says all there is.

The film moves me every time. Great actors, humour and beautiful.

  • I agree with you, one of the most moving movie.

  • Learn to spell motherfucker!

  • ok, moferthucker!

  • it is spell right

  • i really enjoyed this movie, benicio del toro great as his freind benny. Big fan of his art too.

  • I'm gonna go rent this movie tonight.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • i luv this movie! its awesome! I'm in AP art history in my high school and it makes alot of sense. Andy Warhol in this movie is hilarious lol too bad andy and Jean died =/

  • so it was lame that the music change from perfection like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie to some stupid eighties shit . . .

  • stupid eighties shit...

oh right, grandmaster and the furious five...don't you just hate stupid bands that practically invent genres?

    rrrriiiight.

  • I take it you're being sarcastic . . . if you're so subconcious about yourself that you have to make fun of me just because I don't have the same musical taste as you . . . but I am sorry about being so hostile towards eighties music . . . it's just I joke with friends about how much I hate it . . . anyway . . . Parker and Gillespie practially invented Bebop and that's more important than whatever that other song is

  • subconcious about myself?

    are you high?

I love Parker and Gillespie. And for the same reason, since I appreciate music history, I love Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. My comment is not directed at your musical taste. I could care less what you listen to. My comment is merely a rebuttal against ANYONE who says a particular style of music is...and I'll quote you on this one..."stupid".

  • that was more of an era than a genre . . . and I'll say it again . . . if you weren't so insecure you wouldn't be so hostile towards me just because I was so hostile in my opening statement . . . but just like everyone on Youtube you wanna yell at everyone because you know no one can find you sitting there behind your computer screen . . . don't get angry, I'm not, I just call it like I see it . . . lighten up

  • Hostile? Easy there, fella.

I do apologize for posting a challenging stance towards your 5th grade "That's stupid" remark. How childish of me.

And calling me insecure is just a cheap way out. How predictable and cliche. I'm quite secure, and when I'm ignorant of a particular topic, I don't resort to calling it stupid.

    You do.

Insecure? Me? You just generalized me into a category that makes you feel superior. In this case, I'm apparently an angry Youtube firestarter. Wow.

  • I am insecure . . . I'm a teenager it just come with the territory, so no I don't think I'm superior . . . now that whole "Are you high?" remark, I wish I were, but marijuana can cause heart-attacks from things called vaso-spasms so I don't get high anymore . . . and I too respect music history but that doesn't mean that I have to be a fan

  • I think you are the one trying to be superior . . . considering the fact that you are calling me a 5th grader and you're still being angry even after I asked you nicely to lighten up . . . the only way I would be better than you is by default which it seems you have invoked

  • fitting words.

    for an epitaph.

  • well that really wouldn't make any sense on my tomb stone since there would be no context . . . unless you mean the context is my whole life . . . which would show how up tight you still are . . . but idk, just chill

  • I don't really believe in people being better than others unless someone gets uptight . . . but at the same time I am human and will make mistakes . . . I already apologized for my opening statement

  • to call 'White Lines" by Melle Mel and Grandmaster Flash "stupid eighties shit", when there is a whole plethora of TRULY terrible 80s music, is just flat out wrong and lets me know you don't know anything about Hip Hop/Rap. your first comment exudes one word: ignorance.

i don't even listen to hip hop at all really, but i love that song and i know enough to not judge a particularly genre of music without knowing what value a song may or may not have within it.

  • sure, artistically and musically speaking, it has nothing against Bird and Diz. but you just made yourself sound stupid.

    try not doing it again.

  • I did no such thing . . . I just expressed an opinion . . . I excersized my right to free speech . . . you're the one who's an idiot to say I can't have a different opinion and like I said I already explained thoroughly to the other kid so mellow the fuck out and quit flaming people

  • and it's sad too.

because one look at your favorite videos shows that you have good taste in music (definitely relatable in my case)

i see some Jimi, a preformance of "My Favorite Things", that odd yet funny Nirvana interview, etc

  • I don't like the song and it sounds like a bunch of stuff from the eighties that I don't like mostly commercial eighties things like your plethora . . . so I have different tastes who cares . . . plus I've already been through this and explained myself thoroughly to the other asshole so go read my back comments

  • i've read it all.

and i'm not arguing the fact that you have a different taste.

it's the fact that you're saying it's shit without even knowing much about the genre of music.

that song is one of early classics of hip hop.

there are worse songs from the 80's than that one.

and it was put in movie because it's good and was released at that time.

  • man.. you don't get it.

you could have easily said something like "i like Bird more the 80's hip hop" but instead you said "stupid 80's shit"

and that makes you sound dumb.

because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

    end of story.

  • there's no end of story because someone will always have a different opinion than you . . . that makes you sound dumb . . . it does no good fretting over what makes people sound dumb because we all do it on a fairly regular basis and someone else will always think someone else is dumb . . . as for the 80s shit that's just the way I talk I didn't mean to be so offensive I should have been more tactful . . . but it's not like it's a big deal . . . I still don't like Hip Hop

  • haha, "the other asshole".

man, are you thick or what?

look at you still going on...

whateveritsnoyes...it's best to leave the guy to his own devices. he sounds like a disgruntled world war 2 veteran complaining about those "damn 80s kids and their wacky 80s music. damn thooooose rascals!"

  • lol . . . w/e you guys wanna gang up on me and shit do what you want but I have a right to my own preferences . . . I already apologized for my agressiveness at the beginning . . .

  • you're right, Jean , as much as we loved him listened to,well what inspired him...out of respect i cannot comment....REST JEAN.

  • I liked the movie a lot. Very interesting to watch, an interesting storyline, well made. I read a book "Basquiat", amazing how a low life a drag addict and boy for sale, a person with no morals what so ever, became a multimillioner and extraordinary famous only because he was a first black pop artist.

  • that's a little harsh . . . I'm sure he could have been a nice guy

  • Great movie I see it where ever I can!

  • my favorite movie of all time. it is a very moving film indeed. i love flamenco sketches and white lines put together for some reason.

  • i agree...JEFFREY WRIGHT is an A List actor.

  • Jeffrey Wright is freakin' AMAZING!

  • I've been watching films of Michael Wincott's(which is how I discovered this film) for abour 15 years now. This film is absolutely stunning! The entire cast is amazing, Michael does great as Rene Ricard!

  • one of the best films ever made in my opinion. i remember first seeing it on sunset in LA around 96 i think. very moving film.

  • Very under-appreciated film. Loved it. Excellently talented cast especially Michael Wincott and Bowie as Andy Warhol

  • totally apreciated film i would say. it is very low key about some not that low key people, totally outstanding, movinmg, cool, movie i would say. me and jim carey would love to say "I would say" lotsa times cause this movie made us cry and go out there to see a basquiat exhibition. Plus, basquiat is fucking ball of a painter, and Wincott is hell of an actor, but Jeffrey Wright is too much. it takes your guts and WRENCHES THEM. it really makes you cry, the mutherfucker. and bowie...
