Sometimes it seems that blue grass afficianados, particularly in the UK, are more interested in names of things rather than the thing itself. "New Country" most likely refers to the microphones and other electric contrivances.
Porter Waggonner's version of "Uncle Pen" is my favorite. But then, Bill Monroe is the great bluegrass musician in history, so maybe I'd better go and listen to Motorhead instead until I can decide.
Getting to on 5 July 2004 it was on honor to get invited on stage by Clay Walker to clog to this song in my size 2 Lightup shoes. I got to play harmonica, clog and sing with his band. Best Wishes LittleCountryDJ
On Bill lapel i a hand carved mandolin that my wife pinned on his lapel when he came thru and played at the dark hollow in montgomery alabama. I hand carved it and we have seen it on several vidios .I wonder if it made it to his sale after he passed, any one know?
Excellent. The West Kentucky accent that Bill has, when he say's hear it sing. Fabulous. American Music at it's best. This our roots folks like it or not!
Mark Squires was my fiddle teacher for about 5 years...he's a great teacher, and an incredible fiddle player! He's also playing with the North GA group "Gold Rush" now.
I did a little research on Mark Squire. He's well known in the Atlanta area as I'm sure some of you know. Last I've heard of squire's he sometimes performs with a band called "The Hoyles", which is a bluegrass band based in Georgia.

Odds are this was taped on the old Nashville Network program "New Country". And yes, this tune and Bill himself had been around many a year already.

how badly is the description of this video "new country" so off the mark? since Bill Monroe was playing this song in the '50s?
LuckyTHlRT33N 2 years ago 17
Music this good is always "new", it'll never get old. What gets old is some hotshot trying to "outplay" folks like these.

@puzz98 it will get old but it will be always cool

The fiddler with Buddy Spicher is Mark Squire. He's on another Youtube video and Bill Monroe introduces him.
elmar9 3 years ago
Mike Feagan, probably, on lead fiddle (definitely neither Jimmy Campbell nor Doug Green), and the incomparable Buddy Spicher playing the high part.
sandyrothman 3 years ago
Naw thats Jimmy Campbell on fiddle on the right. One of Bills Best.

Its not Jimmy Campbell. Can't figure out who it is though.
