As far as I can see, Andy Warhol influenced Stanley Kubrick (showing human basic functions - sleep, eat, sex), Lars von Trier (actresses are most beautiful when on verge of mental breakdown), Big Brother reality show... and who knows else.
the Cat is like "MR Warhol can i haz cheeseburger?" jajaja, no seriously i dislike the gum chewing for some reason, interesting to see how important is a pet for a person in this modern society full of solitude (is my personal point of view, remember art experience is very subjective).

But he has done something really clever though, he probably knew that in a few years time people would be watching his videos on youtube arguing over there hidden depth and now he's sat there in heaven thinking 'what fools, it's just me eating a mushroom is all!'
As much as I detest Warhol, I must admit that becoming a famous movie maker with nothing more than some cans of silent stock and a cheap camera was a neat trick. He was a clever bastard.
Oh, you pretentious fools, shut up. Stop telling people they're not intelligent enough to get it if they don't get it. There's nothing TO get. It's a man eating a mushroom. All that Warhol was trying to do here was do something no one had done before, and he did. Great. But beyond that, there's no depth to his films.
@RVProductions Your post is over a year old but well... I think you missed a point on Warhols Films. Of course there is a concept behind it. This Film "Eat" for example is cutted up from nine three minute films. The Plot in this film is not exactly important. It's more the playing with the medium film. He creates the illusion of a film and questioned the expectations of the viewers. Sry it's a little bit hard to explain for me cause I'm not a native english speaker. Don't judge artists so easy.
@RVProductions No, he was trying to show that there's art in the things that people have done a million times before and do every day. Even without artistic intention there is still art.
It's art, just not art you can relate to or art that takes a significant amount of time to make. Nonetheless, especially in these days, it's definitely considered "art".
noone can tell there brain how to interpret what there eyes are seeing, we all conjure different reactions to everything, and thats why you think its shit, and i think its groundbreaking...thats why he did it.
Warhol invented ambient movie, not meant to be watched closely, but with a little attention, projected on walls during parties. And I beleive that his movie themes - sleep, eat, drink, sex... had impact on much more famous Kubrick, whose characters perform basic functions in advanced environments.

So, I was told that Andy Warhol was simply brilliant. And now I long to crush the skull of the person who told me this lie. No one who paints Campbell's soup cans or films the Empire State building for forty minutes is brilliant. A more accurate title would be a worthless sponge who needs a job. If Andy Warhol were still alive, I'd provide said artist with a few Spetsnaz-esque moves to break him in half.
I think Andy Warhol was wonderfull just because of what you just said. because he did what no one had ever done, he did what people thought and still think is stupid. He filmed Empire State for forty minutes, why? Because he could, because he wanted to, because nobody had done it and he thought it was fascinating.
I think it's amazing that everyday stuff like bottles and cans can be made into art.
actually Andy Warhol Didn't die when he got shot. He was very close to it though, the doctors had to open up his chest and massage his heart to keep him alive. And the fact that he got shot had a big impact and realy influenced his art afterwards.
Andy Wrahol truely understood what art is. Art can be just the way a person moves or the expressions on a person's face. Some would say that is the greatest form of art.

(by dane youssef)
Did Warhol bring back the silent picture? Perhaps, but he made us wish it had stayed dead. I think Warhol was really just trying to be hip and trendy. He was just amusing himself.
Art died when they let this guy do stuff. He didn't get shot soon enough.
OK, that was over the line. But DON'T call him an ARTIST. He was a SALESMAN who peddled shock and commercial products.
If you want to see something that more closely resembles art, look at a public restroom wall.
The wounds he received from that insane whore (I mean that literally on both words) Solanis never completely healed and contributed to Andy's death though. Sadly she outlived him (only served 3 years in a comfy hospital for triple attempted murder). Like Lou Reed said in "I Believe", "I believe being sick is no excuse and - I believe I would've pulled the switch on her myself".
Well, if I may say something, there was something in his biography, where he said and I quote:
"These are experimental films (or shorts) in the sense that I experiment with the reaction of the audience. I have no idea what I am doing". That could be what we could call this. It was on some article about Warhol.
I would say Andy was more closer to the "Person who does something, just for the sake of it". Just like alot of people today.
I understand what you are saying victorgreywolf but the problem is how do you apply a value or even limits to art? What is the difference between Andy eating a burger and someone else eating one? If we say there are no limits to art than everything is. It may sound open minded at first but it actually is trivializing art. Frank Zappa talked about this in his autobiography. He said that art had to have a frame so the viewer could know were it began and ended.
people you cant argue about what art is or isnt. you cant really define art. andy was famous cause he did weird things that nobody else did, and made ordinary objects iconic. end of story
ur one dumb fuck...andy started an art revolution, and if it was over the line then why did u leave it there instead of pressing back space?...besides art is the hardest thing to define so how can u so easily know what it is?ur dumb ass restroom graffiti is nothing compared to andy..if u dont like him then dont look him up on youtube!
You're obviously a moron. Besides the fact that you look up Andy Warhol videos just to point out that you don't think its art and are completely unaware of how he died, you also stated "I think Warhol was really just trying to be hip and trendy." You do realize that Andy Warhol was the FOUNDER of the factory as well as popart, right?
Andy did some brilliant work and shook up the art world especially bringing commercial art into the pure art world. But lets be honest, he produced a lot and much of it was crap, particularly his movies. Forty minutes of someone eating a mushroom? That isn't stimulating intellectually or creatively, it is an endurance test for the viewer. A movie called "Eat" with a cat (pussy) in camera shot?, that isn't clever, it is a bad pun. Wait a minute, where the hell did I put the emperor's new clothes?
All the good ones are gone, nothing unique about todays people at all, I thought it was fuuny, my very firts thought was....Oh, he's got himself a 'lil pussy! Unique is gone I tell you. What, now we get Chris Crocker? More people are watching him than watching what had some interest and made you think!
Warhol was an OVERTLEY sexual person and almost every fils he EVER did has some Sort of sexual suggestion behind it. It's art... but if anything its just suggestive. Watch the man's face. He's meant to be enjoying it.
I have absolutely no doubt as to whether or not that cat is now dead as a doornail, decomposed and nameless as the blades of grass it fertilized by its timely demise. If the man chewing the gum is still chewing (but now in front of a web cam -Anyone got an address? :) ) I would imagine his once fine chompers are now callused gums... In all likelihood the man is now dead too. :)
this kind of art is sad i believe that people make art into something that shouldnt be i love most of andy warhols work but this is not art at alllllll
What a movie made by Warhol! The film is overexposed, the movie is focused on one scene for a long period of time, which people would put their eyes off it! The pussycat served only one purpose: props!
there IS something beyond this. is better if you get some info before say something nonsense.

No one who paints Campbell's soup cans or films the Empire State building for forty minutes is brilliant. A more accurate title would be a worthless sponge who needs a job. If Andy Warhol were still alive, I'd provide said artist with a few Spetsnaz-esque moves to break him in half.

i disagree completely. he brought to light the everyday things in life and made art of our lives.

I think Andy Warhol was wonderfull just because of what you just said. because he did what no one had ever done, he did what people thought and still think is stupid. He filmed Empire State for forty minutes, why? Because he could, because he wanted to, because nobody had done it and he thought it was fascinating.
I think it's amazing that everyday stuff like bottles and cans can be made into art.
denfedeged 3 years ago
It's really wonderfull that some people like him think that the world is so beatiful and fascinating that he wants to film everything.
denfedeged 3 years ago
I agree but in his film Empire, he filmed the Empire State building for 8 hours, not only 40 minutes.
rofljay 3 years ago
Well maybe he did that because nobody else would even think about doing it. Or he really had too much spare time ;)

actually Andy Warhol Didn't die when he got shot.

If you want to see something that more closely resembles art, look at a public restroom wall.

galacticcow321 3 years ago
The wounds he received from that insane whore (I mean that literally on both words) Solanis never completely healed and contributed to Andy's death though. Sadly she outlived him (only served 3 years in a comfy hospital for triple attempted murder). Like Lou Reed said in "I Believe", "I believe being sick is no excuse and - I believe I would've pulled the switch on her myself".
dean1541 3 years ago
Yes he did die when He got shot! He was gonna die anyways, if he didn't get shot he would still be dead because he had muscle desease!
act9999999 3 years ago
Well, if I may say something, there was something in his biography, where he said and I quote:
"These are experimental films (or shorts) in the sense that I experiment with the reaction of the audience. I have no idea what I am doing". That could be what we could call this. It was on some article about Warhol.
I would say Andy was more closer to the "Person who does something, just for the sake of it". Just like alot of people today.
Food for thought
VICTORGREYWOLF 3 years ago
I understand what you are saying victorgreywolf but the problem is how do you apply a value or even limits to art? What is the difference between Andy eating a burger and someone else eating one? If we say there are no limits to art than everything is. It may sound open minded at first but it actually is trivializing art. Frank Zappa talked about this in his autobiography. He said that art had to have a frame so the viewer could know were it began and ended.
dean1541 3 years ago
people you cant argue about what art is or isnt. you cant really define art. andy was famous cause he did weird things that nobody else did, and made ordinary objects iconic. end of story
livvy177 3 years ago 3
ur one dumb fuck...andy started an art revolution, and if it was over the line then why did u leave it there instead of pressing back space?...besides art is the hardest thing to define so how can u so easily know what it is?ur dumb ass restroom graffiti is nothing compared to andy..if u dont like him then dont look him up on youtube!
aliabbaba 3 years ago
You're obviously a moron. Besides the fact that you look up Andy Warhol videos just to point out that you don't think its art and are completely unaware of how he died, you also stated "I think Warhol was really just trying to be hip and trendy." You do realize that Andy Warhol was the FOUNDER of the factory as well as popart, right?
darlingmisfitxx 3 years ago
Andy did some brilliant work and shook up the art world especially bringing commercial art into the pure art world. But lets be honest, he produced a lot and much of it was crap, particularly his movies. Forty minutes of someone eating a mushroom? That isn't stimulating intellectually or creatively, it is an endurance test for the viewer. A movie called "Eat" with a cat (pussy) in camera shot?, that isn't clever, it is a bad pun. Wait a minute, where the hell did I put the emperor's new clothes?
dean1541 3 years ago
All the good ones are gone, nothing unique about todays people at all, I thought it was fuuny, my very firts thought was....Oh, he's got himself a 'lil pussy! Unique is gone I tell you. What, now we get Chris Crocker? More people are watching him than watching what had some interest and made you think!

oh my god you guys are idiots...
"Eating pussy"...?
get it?

yea, its a mushroom. the video is supposed to show how we take time for granted. we're watching old time go by, as we're well as our own.
- i hope people can make sense of that. im not that good with words lol

What a movie made by Warhol! The film is overexposed, the movie is focused on one scene for a long period of time, which people would put their eyes off it! The pussycat served only one purpose: props!
