Every time they made the journey to Newcastle we would go and see them, so over 20 years that adds up to alot of times. You ALWAYS left exhausted and wanting more. The greatest live band I have ever seen, just balls to the wall stuff. Amazing energy and passion. Best thing was it was only 5 bucks to get in.
In my opinion this may be their best song and this is an outstanding performance. I'm glad so many acts of the 70/80s are still doing their thing. Some pull it off a little poorly but everyone's got to make a living, right. But these guys and some others, in many ways, look better/sound better/perform better than they did in their heyday. And that's a real tribute to their skills. Carry on, Midnight Oil.
AS much as I agree with your opinion of Midnight Oil, this is not a recent performance. Peter Garrett has been retired for many years. Midnight Oil as you see it here is no more. Their music, however, is immortal.
@WaryBuck1 i don't know all their work, but this is my favourite. a good driving song, when turned up to max, but even then you know there is a story to listen to. God I sound old!
I think that one of the bench marks of a great band is that they sound the same live as they do recorded. If not better. This is fucking awesome. I'm pissing off my neighbors right now as loud as it's playing. I'm so pissed I never got to see them live.
Not really a concert going type, but saw them in San Diego back in 1988. Seven concerts later and I can honeslty say this is one of the greatest bands ever! Peter is in the Aussie political machine now and only good can come from that! How can anyone not be moved by this bands music and drive...Thanks Oils!
I only wish peter garet would realise that man made global warming is a huge lie passed down from the scummy world powers that wanna lower population by creating a crisis

I don't get this reference. The line "Not since Lassiter was here" seems to indicate that things were better when Lassiter was "there". Shouldn't it be "Ever since Lassiter was here"? You'll have to excuse my ignorance of Australian history.
No problem my friend. The Australian Aborigines are basically left alone in the Outback (desert) unless their lands has minerals or oil. Therefore the Aboriginal people live in fear that a prospector such as Lasseter will arrive, find something valuable and get them forcibly removed from their tribal lands. Australia has a long history of this sort of thing, but it has improved greatly in the last decade. Midnight Oil did a lot to get this injustice placed on the political agenda.
Define 'rock' - and when you have you'll understand this group is the best 'rock' group in the history of 'rock'. They have it all where most others have nearly nothing.
indeed 1 your comment begs the question of does the group exist for themselves or their fans - these guys obviously went their separate ways - probably tired of playing the same songs over and over BUT perhapsthat is the price one pays for creativity in music today ? what about the Rolling Stones, then ? they have been performing together since 1964 ! at least we have the TUBE to see and hear them anytime we want - but, I get your point and agree 200%
awesome song! first band i ever saw live,18 years ago, well i suppose that would be the fantastic Hunters and Collectors who were support band for the tour!

I was fortunate enough to see them live twice.
If anything the Oils are even better live than the studio versions, they play up tempo and Peter does a lot of ad libbing.

"Warakurna, camels roam
Fires are warm and dogs are cold
Not since Lassiter was here
Black mans got a lot to fear"
"Lasseter" is a reference to the the purported discovery of a fabulously rich gold deposit in a remote and desolate corner of central Australia.

Saw them play this live almost 20 years ago during their "Diesel and Dust" USA tour . . . amazing how they remained just as good in 2000.
BTW, "Diesel and Dust" is an enduring album, one which I highly recommend (2008 reissue with accompanying DVD, apparently).
