Hoffman didn't start getting support until 3 and a half weeks before the race.If I was a lefty I would be worried that the VP drew a crowd of under 150 (INCLUDING THE MEDIA) to that race and the fact Obama took the time out of his busy schedule of playing golf to make multiple in person speeches for the 2 governor races that they lost.

Out of all the elections it seems that the 23rd was the most interesting. And the tent gets smaller and smaller. I don't really understand what the Republicans strategy is in the long term by purging moderates. I get it maybe as a 2010 strategy but not a 2012.

1) If the republics promise to restore the free market in 2010, they will lose that election. A promise to 'renew' the free market is what the people want.

1) I have no idea what renewing the market means, aside from some semantic feel good idiom. Although it is true that the US hasn't been a free market since roughly the 1870's.

2) I don't see republicans going around saying 'we promise to expand the size of government' . Second, promising A and doing B is VERY VERY VERY commonly done.
