Prawdopodobnie nie istnieje żaden film przedstawiający ten makabryczny wypadek, ponieważ nie był to wyścig a jedynie prywatne testy dla zespołu Chip Ganassi Racing. Tony zginął w strasznym wypadku podczas prywatnych testów IRL w 2003. Podczas okrążenia jego bolid wpadł na trawę, zaczął się obracać po czym został wyrzucony w powietrze i uderzył w płot otaczający tor, ścinając kilka betonowych słupów. Wypadek był podobny do tego jaki miał Conway podczas Indy 500 w 2010, z tym że samochód, który prowadził Tony uderzył górą. Tony nie miał żadnych szans na przeżycie. Został rozerwany dosłownie na strzępy, Jego szczątki leżały w promieniu kilkudziesięciu metrów.

Just like Conway's except the tub, and Tony, were sliced into pieces. It was awful. The worst. Carbon fiber parts, wings, tires, tissue, bone, innards, and severed appendage in the fence, on and under the stands, then there was the decapitated part half helmet, half head. The worst crash ever. Yes, there are investigation photos I am told would end the Indy 500 forever if seen by the general.

And he told me all about this incident at the Summer 2008 Chicagoland IRL race when I mentioned the devastation of the Briscoe crash that tool place there previously. We were in Joliet, on the Friday, after practice, in a restaurant. He was still disturbed by that 2003 event. He had a couple beers in him. He told the truth. WITH an IRL official who confirmed. Wrong you are.

@gushingblood2012 Sorry to say, but what 3338MAN said is what I've heard as well. I know a safety worker who worked at the track at the time and described to me pretty much the same thing. The crash sounds like it was beyond awful. I'm glad there's no video of it. RIP Tony.

The disturbing nature of his death was deemed FAR too shocking to be made public. Nor should it have been. @gushingblood2012 Shouldn't have been made public by the Speedway, loser. Use your head. If you have anything in it. I can do what I want. A TCGR crew member told me what happened, confirmed by an IRL official, years after the accident, in a tavern in Joliet. It was the Friday night of the Chicagoland round. Renna was torn to smithereens in that wreck and it horrified the IRL. At least a dozen spectators would have been killed had it happened on race day. Renna's crash was horrific.
