Did you actually live through 1960s and 70s Iran? These musicals were much more popular than artistic, award-winning productions such as "Gaav" or "Aghayeh Hallo". They were usually optimistic and conveyed simple moral messages and the average Iranian preferred to escape from their everyday problems through this type of entertainment.
If censorship was lifted there will be a revival of similar movie making.
