As for locks, most people do buy good locks, and it takes more then bolt cutters to get them off...although you can get them off when a big set of bolt cutters it takes some work and knowing how the lock operated. Its amazing though you will tell someone to buy a good lock, show them the options and you go down after they are moved in and see a suitcase lock on the unit...or no lock at all.

You are right on the money, in The storage business we would only get $100 max on a 12x12 unit. The high amount NEVER happened like in these shows. In fact the piss poor money is why we stopped doing Auctions...whether right or wrong it was not worth out time. Most don't realize if we got $100 and you owed $1,000 we have the legal right to send $900 to a debt collection agency. Now on the flip side of these TV Shows where they show someone bidding $9,000 on a unit, if the person owed

@modette99 $1,000 that mean they be getting a check for $8,000 as the storage company was made WHOLE. In law your only allowed to be made whole, not make a profit...so the Storage Facility did not just make $8,000 on that unit. They got their $1,000 and that is it. Cherry Picking a unit is common, staging one is common, cutting a lock and find nothing in a 12x12 as they somehow cleaned their stuff out is ALSO common. Finding porn, drugs and what have you is also common.

Since they only made 1 show, do you have a guess how much money they lost on this production? Producing a show is like any other business. Something called ROI or Return on Investment comes into play. Cannot have a ROI on 1-show.

Said almost all the same things you said but I have never ever been to an auction. What a horrible show on a horrible cable station. In california if firearms are found in the unit they are automatically confiscated by storeage people and given to the police. Also you do not get any money for finding them. The firts couple on "Forbidden storage" are real buyers, I see them all the time. However, I think they just forced them into reading a script. The other people are obviously extras. my guess is they are buying units, and then reshooting the auction part at a later time using extras

I didn't see the unit that Glendon was talking about that "shouldn't have sold for a thousand dollars", but things are definitely getting a little crazy at the storage auctions- I went to an auction about two weeks ago, and there were at least 30 people there for one rink-a-dink unit. This was one of the most pathetic units I've ever seen- it was basically a closet- maybe three feet wide and two feet deep. (continued on next comment)

There is no way a real auctioneer would be swearing or very little of swearing at any kind of auction that I have attended over the years, that guy would of been ran off and not allowed to work at any auction again in the county. It may be different in other areas of the country but the places I have been it would of been considered very unprofessional and rude to the patrons.
