@OneDeadProductions oh I don't speak Japanese and I didn't know what was going on.I heard the sheik had to go to the hospital and was in a coma from his burns
@Doctorfreek yea that is crazy & he also had breathed smoke from the fire, I remeber when another company in Japan did this called W*ING & Kanemura one wrestler that was in the match got powerbombed on a puddle of gas that was light on fire & he had well over 75% of his back skin burned off it was crazy I think the clip is on here idk though
thumbs up if Billy brought you here! Even though I try not to play into the whole wrestling thing since it has absolutely nothing to do with my obsession with the band
I think FMW did a couple more fire matches after this one. They just didn't set the whole ring a blaze at the beginning of them, and set it on fire in increments.
@AlexDCl it was because they used a kind of pyrotechnic fire that was 100% under control, if you see that inferno match between Taker and Kane from 98 you will see that the fire rises when a hard slam in performed, that had it completely under control.... in this match on the other hand they simply set the stuff sorounding the ring on fire and let it hang by itself.... it was a stupid idea that could have gone horribly wrong... thank God just the ring was burned down....
@alrussell1985 I don't think FMW ever did a fire match again (could be wrong) but other Hardcore companies have done it. None of them had ring burn down though as they don't do it the same way FMW did. Usually with fewer towels on barbed wire or other stuff. The problem is people still have gotten hurt doing these. I remember reading Shiek ending up in a coma or at least hospital after match.
@RJHammer teah i think ur right about the sheik, read that myself, think it was in powerslams nuttiest matches r something. i think thats what the big cut is for when sabu bails outta the ring. maybe big japan done 1, i just never heard of a fire death match after this, and when a death match comes this close to actually living up to its billing, maybe you shouldnt try to implement it again
@alrussell1985 I don't disagree that there should never be a fire match again. Here is a few fire matches I can think of BJW: 2 WX/Yamkawa, Kasai/WX, Kasai/Yamkawa, Kasai/Matsunga, Kasai and Mastsunaga/Zandig and Nick Gage, and they just did one this past august where with Kasai and Numazawa v.s. I forget who. Supposly Kasai got sick and Numazawa got heat stroke during the match.
@McBla5t3rs0n I thin I remember hearing it interviews just reporting of the match.
Interesting note since last post on the video I forget matsunaga/pogo had several of them including one FMW. The fire was done a lot different. I didn't mention the infamous wing one Kanemura getting lite up badly. Also BJW I forget with SWX/Winger v.s. Teoh/Abudllah Kobayashi where they fire on the outside.
So wait....had this match gone according to plan...what were they going to do exactly? Punch/kick and tease throwing each other into the fire? Who could of possibly thought this was a good idea?
@Wes919 As the match started the wind had picked up and caught the fire spirling out of the control. The entire ring burned down. This was one the matches that didnt work for Onita.
so who won?

I wonder if this style match or any style like this is outlawed in the U.S.A.. Anyone feel free to comment with on that.

@CWC880 surprisingly it isn't outlawed. Ian Rotten's promotion IWA Mid South did a fire death match. It was Ian Rotten vs Freakshow.

thank you Mr's Onita, Brunk, Farhat and Gotoh for that riveting demonstration of why fire matches are just a bad idea without the gas rig WWF used.

So how come WWEs Inferno match turned out alright then?
AlexDCl 1 year ago
@AlexDCl The inferno match is done with pyrotechnics, not burning segments like this. That way, they can control it.

I have said this before fire matches or even fire use in wrestling is to dangerous. This is just a great example why.
