Clouds are gathering in Burma. Once again I fear it is the average Joe that is going to bear the brunt of the turmoil. Thank you, "democracy". Thank you, Aung San Suu Kyi.
Paradox of Burma: to gain power peacefully, Aung San needs an election victory. However, the system in Burma cannot be trusted according to Western media. Hence, unless Aung San wins the election and becomes the next PM, any other outcome cannot be accepted by the West. Then, is an election still needed?
Point of conflict:
What track record does Aung San possess to warrant such responsibility? The Nobel peace prize? Will the current elite relent their hold on power?
