You can see in the very first movie that the blob is white. it turns red from the blood of it's victims which is funny because if blood is not exposed to air, its purple. when it is, its red. And as i recall the farmer's (who was the first victim) blood was not exposed to air. 0_o

I'm pretty impressed on how they used special effects with the Blob. So realistic for it's time...after all, it was state-of-the-art effects they were using. But they did a great job overall!

You're an idiot. The first BLOB came out in 1958 and it wasn't boring in any way shape or form! It is what paved the way for the "excellent" re-make which followed the basic same story. I agree with you that the re-make ROCKS and is one of my favorite movies, but don't crap on the original.

The first movie was made in 1958 and remade 30 years later in 1988. The Blob is an outer space one celled germ that survives by eating on human flesh. It devours people and grows larger from its victims. It gets redder from the blood of it's victims. In the original, it is not told where it came from, just fell from space. In the remake, it was a man-made germ warfare test that went awry. Hope that helps... look all three movies up!

I think the 1988 movie was pretty good, but I think more than one fx company was involved, so the blob didn't have one unified look- Sometimes it just looked like chewing gum, other times it's more gelid, etc. In a way, Beware does the best job of realizing it as a simple glob of jelly.
