    x

many starz and a fav again!

  • A superb tribute Dash. Watching Harry on TV I was always struck by the contrast of seeing him now, and how young he would have been when first plunged into war. Sad and sobering in equal measure.

  • Mark, who was Harry? poem power driven, wonderful imagery; i feel i am there. i, too, love your imagery. as a freedom fighter, i have been there even when i was young

    cheers, hunter

  • Hi Mark..sorry, i dunno who harry was...loved your earring! xoxo, Jana.

  • Thank you Mark. We must never forget.

  • beautiful - lots of passion, you certainly have the lungs for poetry :-)

  • Yes, Hats off to Harry. Thanks for writing this. This man who survived the whole of the 20thC. What he was a witness to. This line touched me deeply

    'to share a smoke

was more profound than any words..' Wonderful work, Mark, favourited

  • Well done Mark you've out done your self with this.

Amazing words for an amazing man and generation.

  • "Lions led by donkeys"

    - Haig The Barbarian.

  • a terrific tribute Mark. well done

  • Hey Mark,

A fitting tribute and a beautiful poem; one of my favourites amongst your YouTube repertoir. "As donkeys once all dressed as fools and pressed perverse deluded rules..." wonderfully written line. 5* and favourited.

    George

  • Wonderful, A Great Tribute to Harry, Well Done.

  • So sad...

    Beautifully wrote.

  • Hats off to Harry

    a gentleman of many years

    whose yesterdays are ours

    to carry now into tomorrow

Lovely tirbute Dash ... Cheers... well done!

  • A brave poem for a brave man who lived a long life with integrity, what an achievement! Thank you for this poem, Mark.

  • Beautiful

  • very well done.

    Some of my favorite lines

"whose lives were war ripped ragged"

    "use their skill

to wound their foe but not to kill"

  • So moving.

I especially like the references that are unique to Harry; being a Lewis-Gunner, and the line "Hats off to Harry" ...reminiscent perhaps of that great Del Shannon classic song?...also from a time long gone, and yet from a time when Harry was already coming up to his retirement! Wow..amazing to think Harry was 63 years old in 1961.

Kind of brings it home to you just how old he was.

  • Superb work Mark! A fabulous poem and reading! Cheers Sir!

  • As Lo said; It realy is one of the hardest kind of poems to write.... and you realy put your heart into this one 5

  • a moving memorial to not only an individual but the nobility of his generation, as well -- beautifully worded without a trace of saccharine sentiment -- 5*

  • A powerful poem drawing from difficult subject matter; well written and performed. Thank you for sharing this.

  • Mark this is just wonderful. a truly beautiful and touching tribute.

I have a song that may fit.

    Paul

  • very touching and rich with tribute.

    5 ***** as always.

  • For me, this is the hardest kind of poem to write, but you do it so well--really put the man and the event into context that sharpens its meaning.

I heard an interview with the German soldier who Patch wanted at his funeral--it was very moving.

  • Well done to say the least... 5* and faved

  • Oh Mark... this tribute... You made me weep... It is impossible to describe how brilliant this poem is!

  • My word, that is truly a touching tribute to the passing of the final of the most brave. This reminded me of my late grandpa who was in the 2nd world war, was also a prisoner at one point, yet I liked his stories, cos its those as you said here that make us for tomorrow. Amazing! Im sure Harry would have been very touched by this.
