  • In Rome - in September of 1974 - the great Valeriy Borzov won the European 100 metres sprint title for the third consecutive time. (He had previously won Gold at the 'Europeans' in 1969 and 1971, respectively.)

    I suppose it is true to say that Borzov was not quite as great a sprinter in the autumn of 1974, as he had been two years earlier - when he won two Gold medals at the Olympic Games in Munich. But he was still pretty good - and more than a match for any other sprinter in Europe!
