  • Does anyone know why they're wearing rain boots? (No sarcasm intended).

  • @lilphil06 Thank you for your quesion and it is not sarcastic at all. In South Africa the boots are known as gumboots and used for the famous and beautiful gumboot dances which originated amongst the miners. Gumboot dances litterally gives one goosebumps and even more so when you experience it live! I hope you can enjoy such an experience!

  • Très belle chorale, sans doute l'une des plus connu d'Afrique du Sud il me semble ;)

  • I first saw the DBC when they came and performed in Swaziland in the late 90's (we hosted a few of the boys during their stay). Absolutely amazing! I then went and saw them perform inside the Sudwala Caves a few months later, and also watched them perform with the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra at Durban Botanical Gardens. They blew me away every time! Simply beautiful!

  • Aren't these the same people that have songs saying to kill the boers? But they have some in their choir...brothers make up your minds!!!

  • I really like the energy from the performance. Beautiful singing. Can anyone tell me what the name of the rectangular instrument the boy is playing in the middle of the tune? It sound like a shaker. Where can I get one?

  • I'm jealous, with Capital Letters.

    ;)

    Best wishes from the NL

  • The coordination of the kids singing, stomping and clapping is just: AMAZING AND WONDERFULL!!!

  • To see those kids - black and white - singing together and obviously enjoying it brought tears to my eyes. I worked in Southern Africa in the sixties when things were very different.

  • Goodness bless you, I haven't been to South Africa, but I think I know what you mean.

What with things changing for the better and tears stinging in one's eyes when one sees that or is part of it.

Best wishes & greetings to you

  • aweasome !!!..............5/5

  • I never saw anything like this before

  • When i fist heard this it was a version sang by the NAC church choir South Africa. I love it!

  • My choir had the honour to sing there with them while on tour in SAR. Seeing this live it's simply unforgettable!

  • these boys are just brilliant, does anyone know who is the boy 5 from right front row and what he is doing now

  • Does anybody know if the "Drakies" still exist ?

There is a website but my mails return undeliverable (?). Is the website faked ?

  • The website has the concert list for 2009, so presumably the choir still exists! It's certainly not fake. I have had problems with email to them through AOL, though not for a while.

  • They've been aroound for about 60 years. They are still in the Drakensberg mountains!

  • ek love die drakies

  • My heart want to burst when I watch this! How beautiful is this - keep it up.

Living abroad, this is wonderful to listen to.

    Groetjes uit Nederland,

    Coco

  • I love it keep it up

  • is this some kind of school....or it's like a forming choir??

  • @letibow

Choir formed with boys from all over the African continent and countries there, some of those boys came from a very difficult background, and the choir was formed to bring out universal joy in united singing and movement.

    So I am told.

    :)

  • wow really...that's cool:)....man what a wonderful choir...i i wish we had one like that in our country

  • start one, letibow!

    :)

  • The Drakensberg boys Choir is a school set on a 100 acre estate in the Drakensburg mountain range in South Africa. It was founded in 1967 and is the only choir school in Africa.

The boys choir's vision is to create a multi-racial, multi-cultural choir school to rival that of the Vienna Boys

  • very nice, very good music, and great smiles: JOY for all. Please let me know if the DVD is worldwild zone, or zone 2. Thanks.

  • I keep repeating myself 5*

    and will do so

  • Estos chicos son absolutamente fantasticos. Muchas gracias y que Dios los bendiga.

    Desde Chile.

  • Absolutely priceless, that young darling´s smile at the end of this wonderful video.

    Thanks again for sharing.

    Coco

  • If only we were all united like these kids SA will be a great place, but they are juss a few rooting apples that needs destroying. well-done guys. xx

  • Rotten apples are part of the human condition all over planet earth.

    Destruction, too.

All we can do is try to live up to our own standards in daily life.

    Don´t you think so?

    :)

    Coco

  • Brilliant, joyous - thanks for sharing.

    5*

  • this is really great......if gregorian chants were a joyous voice it would sound like this

  • Very cool sound! Nice job boys! 5*

  • i bought the DVD - almost one month of waiting but well receive

This choir can sing everything... from Mozart to traditionnal african music

    Beautiful

  • is it readable in europe? (zone 2 or 0)

  • If you go to their website and when ordering CDs and DVs, click on "international" you will receive the correct platter. However, most DVD players can be programmed to play all regions. If you buy from "Richer Sounds" they will tell you how to break the lock.

  • i like this music very much. and im lucky to see all this guys from different races in one choir. with the best wishes to south africa for the future. greetings from germany

  • I saw these guys live when I visited the Drakensberg. Really amazing stuff!

  • They're so happy when they sing!

  • What's the song called?

  • the song is called "Kwangena thina Bo" - it is a Xhosa greeting song.

  • Thank you very much, I love this song and always wanted to know what it was called!

  • Beautiful and colorful, what they saying tho. God bless.

  • As a white South African now 31yrs old I was brought up in the 80's Aparthide and I am so happy to see this video. Finally kids togther and how wonderful it is! if there is one thing i've lernt on this earth is that no matter what we all have a part to play in making it a better place for eachother. every single person on this planet is equal and there is nothing negative people can do about it.Lots of Love and light and Peace.

  • Amen, brother.

I hope to see Jews and Arabs sing together like this within my lifetime.

    -jcr

  • I hope.

  • Pretty cool, huh!

  • this is a wonderfull message of love that everybody should read!!

Especialy the poeple in this wolrd who are 'leading'this world.

    (sorry for mij bad english)

  • @belburry always remember that the only language that does not classify or discriminate is MUSIC. A song from Asia can be sung by an African. Man's inherent right, be he an African, Asian or Caucasian, is his power to speak which can be done through music.

  • Oh my God! They are so cute.

  • Beautiful, and a treat to watch. Thanks.

  • Safarica, how mistaken you are. These boys are so completely non-racist that they can truly live in the freedom of friendship without being frozen with this racist type of ignorance.

I have seen the choir and both white and black sing all kinds of music incredibly beautifully.

Really....what has colour got to do with it???

  • Ils sont formidables ! En plus de leur talent, ils donnent au monde une leçon de tolérance, Blancs et Noirs unis par la musique.

  • worry not someone'll soon load the white KAK for you, while the boys have the time of their lives.

  • This represents the real South Africa, not the whitewashed version of the past. Apartheid is over. Morons who espouse racist hate are getting older and will soon die out. These kids will be the future. Thank God!

  • Safarica you are a rascist prick and bring shame 2 what South Africa Stands for.

  • @Safarica i get that this is 3 years late but that shit comment right there is just plain wrong. thats kinda attitude thats stuffing up the country. GO DRAKIES!!!!

  • saw the drakie choir about ten years ago when i went to the drakensburg and they were absolutely amazing! ya makes you really homesick hey

  • this is the kinda stuff dat make us homesick!...bafana ba diragatsa!kip it up!GREAT SHOW!

  • was at the school from 1999-2002. top school, learnt many things.

  • I love this song

  • To see these boys - Zulu and Xhosa, Brit, Afrikaner and Asian in such easy and joyful co-existence is a salutary lesson to the adult world. I spent 5 days at their festival in the Drakensberg in 2005 and what you see on the video does reflect the remarkable Drakie spirit which I felt the whole time.

  • You are right colenso05. I just purchased 4 DVDs from their website and had them shipped to me in California.

    I cry from homesickness!

  • beautiful

  • It's so easy and so cheap to have your own copy !

    Buy it at dbchoir info

  • absolutely beautiful

  • if you love this - and who doesn't? support them by buying the DVD "amaculo- ase Afrika "direct from the school's website. Its an hour of pure joy!

  • I have tears in my eyes. There is hope. blaine

  • Yes it does bring tears. There is hope only if these young boys become men and make a difference and not point out differences.

  • Very well stated. blaine
