I remember everyone and her dog smelled like Charlie, including me, but I wasn't all that nuts about it because it sort of gave me a headache. I liked it much better on someone else.I bet if any man in their 50-60s when they smell this get instant memories of all their ex-girlfriends who wore this. Like I said, EVERYONE wore this stuff.
A lady plans to wear this fragrance with other Revlon products and coordinating outfits, shoes, accessories and jewelry to a couple of ceremonies in the Deep South. One ceremony will be groundbreaking. The other will be dedication. Both ceremonies are connected to a museum the lady is sponsoring.
She passed in the early 80s. All I know is she wrote the base song for the company and sold it for like 200 dollars. Which was a lot of money in the 70s
Charlie used to smell wonderful. The recent incarnations, though, appear only around Christmas, and smell cheap. Has anyone noticed? It's not at all the same as I remember.
Yes, this was the original -- airing BEFORE the more famous Shelley Hack-Bobby Short version was created. Thank you for posting this piece of television history.
True. And do you remember Hai Karate? I was one of the guys who tried it. It even had some bizarre set of instructions on how to do the Hai Karate ancient ritual -- supposedly to attract women. But I though it didn't smell so good.
In the liner notes for the "Best of Orpheus," I read that the Boston group did the original version of this jingle. Can you ask your grandma if this is the version they sang on? I always liked the original one better than the Bobby Short one but I remember the original being smoother even than this one.
My Grandmother Marjorie Hess wrote the score and lyrics for this ad. She played the organ at one of the largest churches in Chicago and wrote Jingles on the side. I believe she was paid 200.00 for the song. alot of money back in the day!
@Boatshowdemigod : I recently wrote the score for the Brothers Quay film for the new Comme des Garcons fragrance called 'Wonderwood' and had until yesterday completely forgotten that there was a precedent for perfume advertising in my family; my grandfather's brother was an ad exec and Charlie was his campaign!

@Boatshowdemigod well,...if thats the case...then bless ur grandmother heart....can this catchy lil add was highly influential to my music career...and just plain oke brings back great childhood memories...I prefer the bobby short version though...thats the one that did it for me...mel tourme was a sweet version as wel. Cheer to Grandmother Marjorie Hess. :-)
Yeah, that was great episode... Keslo gets the underware modeling job while Jackie is stuck selling cheese at the mall... hence her daydream about "Jackie" perfume. The episode was called "Leo Loves Kitty" from season 4.

How old is that actress supposed to be?
That hairstyle really ages her, even for 1973.

Didn't they parody this on "That 70s Show"(which, by the way, is one of the best TV shows ever)?

Family goes back and forth about whether she wrote it, or just played it for the commercial, either way a lil piece of history.
