Next time, for the frame, use nails. You use less and they're stronger. Also, lay out your deck boards from the center out and try to space them for an exact fit or let the ends overhang slightly and your won't have to rip a board to fit. Remember that weathered boards won't shrink for spacing factor.
Hey Rick,I know your doing this on the cheap, but next time get a few bags of gravel and dig out a little under the blocks. That will keep them from sinking into the dirt. Also you seem confused on wood dimension's a 1x6 is really 3/4"x5 1/2" and 2x6 is 1 1/2"x 5 1/2" . but your doing a great job and I like following your progress. (\O
...you work kinda like me...I use what I have quite often...glad I kept it....you did a fine job, but the only thing I see is that the black screws may need to be coupled with more screws later in coming years....
As long as it stays unattached to the house it should clear code. But if you attach it you'll need to go below the frost line. Other wise a frost heave could potentially damage the structure of your house. Most people dismiss this aspect, but have never seen what a really cold front can do with frost heave. In my area I've seen frost heaves of over three feet !
Hi. I'm not a carpenter beyond building my pre-cut beehives. I just like watching your vids. How did you level the deck blocks? I like the way you use what is available if it does the job! thanks for the entertainment!
