@maestrochulo That chanting isn't in Latin, it's in English. It's difficult to make out, but if you listen VERY closely, the chanting is the words to Kane's little song that he sings: "God is in his Holy temple. Earthly thoughts be silent now." That chanting is simply these lines repeated over and over again to Jerry Goldsmith's music. These lines are from an actual hymn by the way... Who ever thought a hymn could be transformed into something so frightening and sinister.

it's a shame how hokey this film is, when you consider how superb the first one is in every way. the right effects, at the right time, with room for your imagination to build.

this film gives us blue-screen nonsense and a finale in which a Native Spirituality throws a magic spear (!) into a fire-portal (!) which is instantly retrieved by Steven (!) and used to kill Kane, who is now a Giger monster (?!).

it's just too much stupid. give me a rope around a waist and a closet full of light!

I always liked the way the spirits and ghosts were done throughout the Poltergeist series. Most of them looked scary but they also had sort of a innocent look to them because of the light surrounding them.

you know, im agnostic-but I always saw this scene asthe BEST EXAMPLE of ho hrd it is for families to stay unified spiritually, and how the "evils" of the everyday world pull at us from every angle. Pretty niffty special effects with the corpse-like Carol Ann transformation, among other things in the sequel...pretty advanced by 1986 standards. And a lot of people thought James Cameron get his start with the special effects with the movie, The Abyss. This actually dates much further. Was Rick Baker involved with the makeup and effects in this movie at all? Curious to know.

If you think about it, this scene kind of represents Heather O'Rourke's actual death. That great monster grabbing her, taking her from her family, like death itself. When she aged into a corpse, and how she came back in an angelic-like state to her family as if she was in peace. Although in the movie she was saved but in real life she wasn't. :(
