Homemade 1.5" Star Mine Firework

I tried two of them about an hour ago. Well... They were my first ones and it was a 2" shell, packed with seven way too big stars each. They flew about 20 meters to the sky, and then fell down und burned the same time on the ground... But works pretty good for maybe 30 minutes of work!

With the plain paper coatings, wires and not showing your face, your videos look rather sketchy.

Nice work! I've been experimenting with home-made pyrotechnics myself lately. Have you tried adding colorant? (Copper Chloride [blue], Magnesium Sulfate [white], or lithium chloride [dark red]?) I'm not sure how these would work in the presence of an oxidizer, like your KNO2, but it should work nicely. These mines would look great in blue.

Very nice work. I made some like this and turned out very well. Check out my vid on star mines and the way i make my 1.5's Very fast and easy way to make them. 2 minutes to make per shot. And the spread is amazing. I dont use paper mines anymore. Great vid.

Those of you who want to "experiment." Take a papertowel tube as a former, wrap a 8.5x11 piece of paper around it, glue end of paper. Clove hitch one end. Dump in 2 oz 2fa, placing your QM or firecracker fuse IN the bp,piece of tissue paper on top of that,then 3oz of your favorite stars. Close with a clove hitch, and get ready to fire.
