  • I think the books were AMAZING and i also think they did a pretty good job on the movie C: Eragon was the one which movie got TOTALLY screw out of porportion!

  • For a second then i was so amazed this film had been made n eluded me yet from watching the trailer its obvious why. This movie is a blashemy on the original books>>>

  • where can we watch it full

  • @nictwifie do you have Skype?

  • Is 'The Dark is Rising' coming in October 2010??? Or is it already for sale??

  • @MerelKuiper it's already for sale. and it's really cool movie!

  • The "Dark is Rising" Sequence is what got me hooked on the Fantasy genre years ago. This movie looks pretty good, if not somewhat straying from the original text. I wonder why they did not start this series with Book 1: Over Sea, Under Stone.

  • I just remembered this. In the scene with the Rider on his horse, it is supposed to be black, not white.

  • I just saw the movie...

    Love it!!!

    I wanna read the book...

    It's amazing really!

  • I read the book, and it's one of my favourite books of all time. I've watched this trailer (and nothing more of the film), and it's already one of my most hated films ever =P

    Butchery!

  • OMGSH I KNOW The books were so pure and amazing and deep and then this idiotic movie was just completely off track and butchered the entire aesthetic and feeling of the books! WORST MOVIE EVER. I was so angry when I saw this. Why spoil something so amazing?

  • If there is a sequal, when is it going to be filmed?

  • why was no one adding the movie??

  • the books are waaay better. the filmed ruined it so much

  • I love the books so much I think it would break my heart to see the movie. I don't think i should o.o its true that books are always better than teh movies, like Harry Potter...I don't think I want my heart broken again over another movie XD

  • Many of these scenes aren't even in the film!

  • i know! Grrr!

  • i thought it was a gd film, nd will is fiiiiiit!! wat year was dis film made??

  • they ruined the books this movie is ok but barely has anything to do with the books and when he takes tom home my god it pissed me off

  • It's not only the fact that he's American (which has changed the plot considerably, since it relied heavily on mythologies present in Britain and Wales), it's the fact that they've changed the plot and key events that happen. Because of that, the movie is nowhere near as good as it could have been - it's a waste of money!

And I'm hardly a moron... at least I can use proper English.

  • i don't care what u all think of the movie, i thought it was brilliant. much better than the book, the book was confusing but the movie had a much clearer plot and was much funnier. sorry.

  • What are you, 12? The books are perfectly clear. It's not a comedy, it's not meant to be funny. It's nothing on the book. Susan Cooper hates it.

  • what r u talking about? yeah, the book was okay, along with the other series, but the movie showed how difficult Will found it all, and the end when he came to terms of the fact he was an Old One, was amazing. im sorry. but we all have different opinions don't we?

  • It was a bad movie. Badly acted, badly portrayed, and badly adapted. Simple as that.

  • It was a good movie. Good acting. Brilliantly portrayed. Yeah, I do agree that the movie was different to the book, but they still kept the plot. Everything about it was perfect. and i repeate, everyone has different opinions. simple as that.

  • I've studied film for two years. I've learned to critically appraise films. My opinions about book vs movie aside... it's bad. The acting could have been so much better, and the script wasn't well written. The effects were good, but like so many movies today, it relied too much on the effects to carry it, and it's not enough.

  • The dark is rising was made into a movie, for fun and entertainment. A challenge. so what if some people think its rubbish, it doesn't matter. atleast they had a go at it. no movie can be the exact as the book. nothing can replace the way how people read books. people look at books and movies from a different angle than others. i REPEAT, everyone has different opinions! this has finished.

  • really? she hates the movie? if so, maybe other authors hate the movie adaptation of thier books *cough Christopher Paolini cough cough*

  • What what??

    NOOOOO!!!!

    Its shit!

    Oh i'm soo dissapionted.

    Nothing to the book ='[

  • i loved this moive the kid is so cute i so wont to adopt him

  • The word is that the script writers did not even bother to read the series and merely glanced at the 2nd volume Dark is Rising.

In addition, they must be "Valley guys" with limited education and arrested development.

  • God, I HATE what they've done to the story! Did the directors even read the books? They totally killed the story line. The 11-year-old brunette british boy, becomes a 14-year-old blonde American? WTF? His brother does NOT go with him, and Maggie Barnes is Max's interest before they see she's evil. It sucks.

  • dont you hate it when the make movies out of really good books but they dont do a good job?

  • YES. Omg, YES. If they're not going to decently adapt the book and start true to the events in the story as it was written by the author, then they should leave it alone and not make it into a movie at all!

  • They always do that. Not once have I seen a movie that was based on a book turn out well. It's a well known fact. A friend of mine watched a movie that was based on a book, but before she watched it, I warned her it wouldn't be any good, and lo and behold. It wasn't lol

  • tbh im quite sick of all these new films which the hero is a child, its ridiculous.

its ridiculous when a roid raged man such as stallone or arnie save the world, never mind a child.

but none the less its suppose to be a good film! i wont be seeing it tho :)

  • BEST FILM IN THE WORLD

  • damn this movie is good!! saw it at the cinma today you guys gotta go see it! anyone wanna know details ill answer for you .. its freaking awesome seriously!

  • i come from malaysia,i had saw this movie,i feel like not bad,but also not good, the story so normal and easy,i thing the director must read the book first, and when i see the movie,i hear many people say not good and boring, not more action.i give 3 star only***

  • im glad i red th book...its answerd so many questions!!

  • NO! Will looks and sounds stupid compared to the book Will! They've ruined it!

  • Do yourself a favor, people.... Read the books. Trust me, you'll understand why so many people are complaining about the movie.

  • even the smallest light shines in the dark

    thanks for that

  • Please read the book(s). That way, if you do have to see the movie, you will know all it could be.

  • They'll probably cut out alot of stuff from the book, rehash it into something else and get SO many things from the book wrong but I'm willing to watch it anyways because I adore the The Dark is Rising series.

Plus their not Supposed to get everything right in the movies.Their liquid fanfiction, candy for the eyes, something for the fans to watch.(You get the idea)If they tried to get every last detail right then we would probably be sitting in a theatre for 5 hours

  • Well, but how about if they deliberately tried to get as little from the book right as they possibly could? Many of those involved in the production have gone on record as stating that the movie has very little to do with the book, and Hodge said that he repeatedly changed things so he could see things he wanted to see in a movie and that he hasn't even read any of the other books in the series.

  • yeah but this is murder, wtf is up with the americanization? the actors are wrong. there are scenes that weren't in the book for a reason. the book rocked that way, why wouldn't the movie? people are gonnna think that this is so cliche

  • First: I so appreciate that you can spell properly and construct a logical sentence. Second: yes, i agree with you...Books are usually better than movies.

  • AAAARRRGGGGHHH! American-ized! Good Books pissed on my greedy christian motherfuckin directors! READ THE BOOK KIDS!

  • everyone seems to enjoy the books, I have not read them, but the movie looks shit, like aaragon or the harry potter movies. There is good, there is evil, kid is good, kid fights evil.

he will no doubt win at the end of each movie.

    the end

  • i rlly like da book(yea right im bordering on obsessive (^_^) but dis trailer dissapoints me...it just seems 2 much like a kids movie like bridge 2 terabithia!!! i feel like they damaged a good book somehow!

  • If only they hadn't given him a yank accent. Books are good. Trailer looks cheap. Great advert for Golden Compass

  • I CAN'T WAIT! this is my FAVORITE book series! ^=^

  • cant wait for this show to be released.

  • the walker is abroad

  • the books were very good the movie...doesn't look like it if it didn't say "Based of the sequence of books by Susan Cooper" i'd totally go see it and enjoy it but because it continues to call itself an adaption of those books, it is a shame hopefully in a decade or so, someone with the brains of a true genius will adapt the book correctly everything's been changed literally all of the dialogue is original and for christ's sake where the fuck is all the snow it's supposed to be Christmas
  • couldnt agree more, when i watch it, i will try to forget its ruining susan coopers brilliant work. where is the snow indeed, thats so much of the book missing in one go

  • i know.the snow like symbolised the darkness. hmm, should i see this just to complain? or to compare it to the royally screwed eragon movie? i mean, seriously, without snow u might as well not even make the movie!

  • when the dark comes rising, six shall turn it back, three from the circle, three from the track. i cant wait, even if i dont enjoy the film i still love the books, i always read the dark is rising in the build up to christmas, always gets me in the mood for it strangely enough

  • i read the book sick

  • I have read better but the movie looks good.nice trailer, maybe people will read the books after seeing the movie. they are not copying the book just the plot line. chill will you this is not another Eragon

  • really? as i seem to recall, the plotline required a good deal of snow. and i dont see that anywhere. i dont mean to sound rude, but i do think this is another eragon

  • Noooo....they broke The Dark is Rising.

  • the series is a good concept for a book but HORRIBLE in movies. and this looks like too andtiony with abunch of mindless explosions

  • totally aggree wit u dere

  • This seems like a rip-off of nightwatch (the russian one)

  • I'm so disappointed! This looks absolutely terrible. I've been a huge fan of the books and it looks like they butchered anything that was good about the series. BOYCOTT THIS FILM! Don't give Hollywood money for such crappy adaptations that are obviously just to make a buck. :(

  • well for me, i like it and i cant wait for it.. hee hee!!

  • Will does not look like Will, Merriman does not look like Merriman, and why are the Stantons americans? Trust hollywood to mangle the book, the movie sounds cheesy and ridiculous.

  • ya, hollywood does that with any movie thats based on a book.

  • this is a better trailer for this movie then I've seen, it leaves out most of the stupid things, but it still does a terrible injustice to the books we all read and loved.

  • The book was good. A little slow, but very, very intelligent. The movie...is hopeless. Also, Will was never American and would never say "Woosh!".

But this is actually the best Dark is Rising trailer I've seen so far. The one attached to Harry Potter was complete crap. Will had some sort of crush on a school bus driver which makes him steal the first Sign from a mall, thinking it was a gift for his girl.

  • Hey, that looks interesting ... remembers me a lil bit of "Time bandits" and "National Treasure".

If I like the film, maybe I`ll read the books afterwards.

  • Do yourself a favor read the books first and forget the film.

  • i second taht opinion made by RavenL4 dont watch the movie before u read the book, or go ahead and watch the movie then read the book, as soon as u have finished the book after watching the movie, u'll just as strongly appose it as if u had read the book before watching or after

  • "Can I fly? ... You know, whoosh?"

I'd hate to ruin the book for someone by complaining, and the other complainers have said pretty much everything there is to say... so I'll just laugh bitterly: ha ha. ha.

  • Ok, I have to admit, that ('Whoosh!') was totally out of character for Will, but it was pretty funny! lol... And our complaining about a movie shouldn't turn you off from the book. The two are (apparently) completely separate entities. I'm just hoping Hollywood doesn't do to this book what they did to Eragon. You know...skip out on plot and characterization for random action sequences. I've met people who wouldn't read the Eragon books after seeing the movie bc they assume the two were alike.

  • really? boy were those ppl ever wrong. they are totally seperate entities. i could write a book of complaints after watching the movie eragon when i had already read the book. and yes, the whoosh was funny. have u read the book yet? cuz if u had, somthin like whoosh wouldnt suit will later on lol

  • Looks like it will be pretty good.....only real complaint is I think they should of used someone else for Merriman. But we will see when the movie comes out

  • Could y'all please stop complaining? You're ruining it for me. I've never read the books, I was going to read them, but now that you keep bitchin' about it, I'm turned off. If you hate iut so much, don't watch it! Stop it! It looks very good, I mean Christopher Eccleston on a horse! If you want to complain write hollywood, they never keep books intact! (go check out the wizard of oz)

  • I know right. I have just started reading the books and I dont like people ruining it. This movie comeing out is the reason I am reading the books. It remindes me alittle bit like Kingdom Hearts.

  • basically you're right, but I just can't stop, even if I want to. I love the books too much and have been waiting for a film version of them for about 15 years... And no, it doesn't look any good if you have read the books.

  • Why should we? This is the equivalent of Americanizing Harry Potter. Of course the fans are upset.

  • it's not about watching it or not, this film should not have been made. imagine Lord of the rings....and changing the setting from middle earth to New Jersey and then make the Elves into Star Trek Vulcans.

  • you are so right ppl totally have to stop complaining i dont think the books are that good and the trailer looks good so boycott it and then watch the movie with your friends when they rent it so at least you know what you are talking about

  • 'Restructure the mythology'... And this is why america has so little culture anymore...

  • On wiki I saw it say 'restructered the mythology' and I knew right then and there they had screwed it over. HOW CAN YOU 'RESTRUCTURE' THE MYTHOLOGY OF A BOOK WHO'S CORE IS CENTRED AROUND ARTHURIAN MYTHOLOGY?! Obviously Hollywood has figured out how...The only way I will like it is if they do such a good job on it as an original movie that I'm left appreciating it for its own right. But after having seen Eragon, I'm a little unconfident about that...

  • Curses! I was so excited when I first saw the poster up in the movie theatre too! I was like 'OMG! They're making a movie of it!' But then I looked closer at the poster and noticed the city in the background and no one on the poster looked like Merriman and some of the people on it I couldn't even fathom who they might be in the book plot, so I began to worry but decided to give it the benefit of the doubt...but having seen this, it makes me cry inside.

  • I too was exicted when I saw the poster... That was untill I saw the trailer...

  • Will is American and Merriman is all wrong (how hard could it have been to find an actor who is tall and skinny with a hawk-like nose??). That's a dead giveaway that it isn't faithful to the book. But it's so much worse... It looks like they saved just enough details to force us to remember what the movie was "based" on -- so there's no way I could enjoy it. I guess they're betting on their audience not having ever read the books.

  • actually will is canadian and the whole thing was filmed in Romania. trust me i go to school with the actor who plays will

  • hey

    what grade are you in?

i go to collingwood too..my name is melanie

and i was born in romania..

  • It's a crime for them to even use the book's name! This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the book! This is my favorite book/series of all time. I always did dread the possibility of a movie being made of it, but I didn't know they could butcher it this badly. Could Susan Cooper actually approve of this? It's positively awful. Will is supposed to be English. He's 11...there are no girls. Or bus rides. Or half of that other stuff. This is outrageous!

  • The other trailer posted by GSonlyone w/Will on the bus and at the mall is the one shown before HP; it more clearly reveals how much they tried to Americanize this very British story and worked to divorce it from the book source. Read articles posted to the net and you will see that they clearly state that this was for base marketabilty reasons and not artistic ones.

  • It looks like a really good movie, and the little kid is kind of hot. XD Can't wait to see it.

  • the little kid is 15, he is just really short for his age

  • Oh man, this is so disappointing. I heard everyone complaining but I thought they were just being picky. I couldn't possibly expect a 100% accurate depiction of the book....but this is ridiculous!

  • looks like a terrible mess... please READ THE BOOKS instead, they are amazingly imaginative, atmospheric, captivating, and not so "pseudo-cool"...

  • ignore my first comment I checked the poster online i think its right i thought i saw a different shape

  • They are no longer using the original poster with the flaming, correctly configured sign. This, along with what I can discern from the trailers, indicates to me that they have indeed DONE AWAY WITH the original signs and created their own.

  • then they shouldn't have called it THE DARK IS RISING at all. they changed so much, and not for the better, that it is really unfair to the Susan Cooper and her books to be connected with this mess.

  • I THINK THEY GOT THE SIGNS WRONG!!!!!! are the signs supose to be a circle with a X?

  • What the...? That americanized mess looks nothing like the book I know and love.

*Whoosh!* I think I just died a little inside...

  • Utter dreck. Rape of an amazing book. Derivative trailer for a derivative movie that is a re-write, not an adaption, of a moving and subtle novel. Uh, "Pseudo-Will," could you look for the signs that will direct you to the actual book plot?

  • damn it. why'd they have to make them American? i'm american and part of the reason i loved the books so much was how foreign the lore seemed to me... how english it was.

  • very excited to see this...

  • Makes me kinda sick, watching this. I hate Hollywood.

  • Couldn't they name it something else?... they've already changed the story enough! Why pull the name of a great series into their vapid Hollywood sinkhole?

  • So...they're making a movie out of the SECOND book in the series? The first book was "Over Sea, Under Stone".

  • Rose Byrn looks like Keira Knightley if you stop RIGHT at 1:40

  • ...I don't understand. Why is Will Stanton American? I may cry. Thanks for putting the trailer up, though - I was curious.

  • YEAH!!!

    i KNOW

wasn't the friggen' book set in ENGLAND!!!?!

    GAWD

it sound dumb with him all americanized...

  • i heard this movie has the biggest twist of the year.

  • I heard they screwed with the story and made some of the characters evil for the hell of it. Won't say which ones, but it's obvious.

  • Looking forward to seeing Christopher Eccleston in this. Been a while, but I remember the book was good.
