Oh jesus. These games are designed to get you hooked, while your real life progressively gets more and more crap. You know, using your first life, you can actually get enlightened.
I wish someone would explain what the real appeal is in sl (In game!). I joined yesterday and have no idea what to do but just stand and look at people. I heard people making real money but I have no idea where to even begin.
I agree with Foxxy, when I first started SL I was hooked, totally! then I went to the club scene and was hooked some more.. But I ended up taking about a 4 months break about 2 years into it all and came back was just BLAHHH lol but because of that break I found out that I wanted to do something MORE with SL and I actually ended up becoming a full perm clothing creator and now sl is my RL job, I make more money then i did as a nurse and am a #1 full perm store now so yah take a break gurl :)

@iamgodalone i played for a few years, since January 2007, and i have to say it really, really sucks. i've made a few hundred bucks (USD) by building and selling guns, etc before, and since i left the game back in 2010. i still go on to visit once in a while, and i say to myself: damn, isn't that a shitty game. horrible graphics, horrible lag, horrible engine, retarded community. i'm ashamed that i got sucked into it for so long, and i'm glad that it's in decline now
In SL, it's simple...If you can THINK IT, then it's in SL. There is no more open sandbox "MMO" than SL. 100% of EVERYTHING is player created. That being said, addiction can hurt you very much (i've been there) You have more to offer SL when you keep your RL first, it's all your RL experiences that make you who you are in SL...don't lose yourself in SL ....find yourself in RL first. You CAN do it.

I know what you mean. I spent over 12 to 16 hours few times, but normally just 5 to 8 hours daily. Try to learn something, build something new and have your own store in Marketplace, so that you will not feel so guilty or depressed. Maybe you are not but just in case. Go get some sleep please! i feel like second life is great for creative, patient people, idk, i played about 4 hours over 3 years, and i just can't get into it, im bad at creating things, the clubs are kinda silly, all the roleplay bs is just weird, and all the things i can do in sl, i can do in real life(except fly)
Second Life is a nice visualization tool for concept, I stay essentially on three sims, for free... and use them as sandboxes to build my vehicles. My vehicles are testbeds for various concepts, for instance my dolphin water craft communicates with my off site server and the programming there runs artificial intelligence routines to make its movements natural in and out of 'fluid'. SL doesn't have natural movement, but my ships do. So my money is spent importing textures, sculpts, etc.

If you get a job on SL you can make the Lindens by getting paid. I have been on SL for over 3 years. Never had to purchase any Lindens with real money. I am a DJ on SL.
I had to stop doing gigs since I went back to college again. Been taking about 3 classes a semester and one gig a week seemed to be in the way. I also have been slowing down on logging on SL. I used to DJ at Club Bada Bling, Pinnacle Rock, The Cage and Obscure Nightlife to name a few.
What about doing those things in RL?!Buying furniture,rent an apartment?! Dont foget about RL!! It can be more fun that SL. Im in SL from 2 years...but RL comes first. And yes you can do anything in SL .... but everything unreall.Try to find something you would like to do in RL and youll see that youll forget about SL.You can have a baby in RL too LOL And i promisse you its more fun and youll get more satisfaccion,real one... I got addicted to the point I neglected my rl bf, and I was 16....then I was forced to move away from him for 6 months... after that Ive been able to leave sl to go to my rl bf school and other things :P but I still play it but not as 'religiously'

sl is a very dangerous game when it comes to an addiction. after 3 years i have just realised what a bad impact it has had on my rl, i neglected my rl a lot. my advice to you is to edge away before you become hooked if you are not already.
Thanks for talking about 2nd life. I've got a friend who just retired and plays SL all the time. My wife spends all day on something called farmville. I have trouble staying interested in that. (I got a real garden outside, but my son thinks it only takes a day to grow tomatos [farmville time!] So I was kinda curious about SL. I've enjoyed a flight sim called X-Plane and also play it on my ipod. Anyways, thanks for sharing. Looks like fun!
SL is awesome, just remember that its meant to be part of your real life, in the future large portions of the web are likley to be virtual worlds,SL is not a game ,you can play games in it like you mention getting pregnant , getting pregnant is not part of SL,it is a role play that people do in SL, some people role play as star wars characters, myself I supply advertising to real life companys for real money,its what you do with SL that counts.

I had this same problem with SL addiction.. Loosing sleep, Not being in RL etc etc. It really is addicting and you cant explain it to people who have never played. you don't have to pay anything to build, I've built a few structures, now, I have to use some of the Lindens I earn from doing Concerts on SL to get the textures

Because RL passes by so fast, don't let it pass you by. I've read where psychiatrists are seeing a huge rise in the amount of patients they have who are addicted to WoW, and SL. @SLDJGirl I totaly support you. this is madness and very very addictive. i have gone through this madness and i slept only 2-3 hourse a day for 2 years. my health is under recovery. i still play it but thats only for 3-4 hrs a day not more than that. thank god i'm not addicted to it anymore. i love my sl friends. this is my suggestion for those addicted to SL. shut down your PC and go to sleep lol. rl will not forgive you otherwise.

I'm no psychologist,but it's probably safe to say that people who really get addicted to these MMORPG's have trouble dealing socially in their real lives. Don't think i'm saying it's a real bad thing,but you have to get out as well,and hopefully look inwards to heal whatever may make you think you can't do what you do in the game.

If you get a job on SL you can make the Lindens by getting paid. I have been on SL for over 3 years. Never had to purchase any Lindens with real money. I am a DJ on SL.

I had to stop doing gigs since I went back to college again. Been taking about 3 classes a semester and one gig a week seemed to be in the way. I also have been slowing down on logging on SL. I used to DJ at Club Bada Bling, Pinnacle Rock, The Cage and Obscure Nightlife to name a few.

What about doing those things in RL?!Buying furniture,rent an apartment?! Dont foget about RL!! It can be more fun that SL. Im in SL from 2 years...but RL comes first. And yes you can do anything in SL .... but everything unreall.Try to find something you would like to do in RL and youll see that youll forget about SL.You can have a baby in RL too LOL And i promisse you its more fun and youll get more satisfaccion,real one... I got addicted to the point I neglected my rl bf, and I was 16....then I was forced to move away from him for 6 months... after that Ive been able to leave sl to go to my rl bf school and other things :P but I still play it but not as 'religiously'

this video was very touching.....Balance... ur first life supports the second...i'm currently addicted to something as well so i understand you. Ive lost sleep and missed out on important things... But i realized that your running away from things which can be erased in another place, which allows u to continue going back. Once u realize.. u have to make a change and try to adapt the second life to ur real one. And then maybe you'll truly be happy

sl is a very dangerous game when it comes to an addiction. after 3 years i have just realised what a bad impact it has had on my rl, i neglected my rl a lot. my advice to you is to edge away before you become hooked if you are not already.

Thanks for talking about 2nd life. I've got a friend who just retired and plays SL all the time. My wife spends all day on something called farmville. I have trouble staying interested in that. (I got a real garden outside, but my son thinks it only takes a day to grow tomatos [farmville time!] So I was kinda curious about SL. I've enjoyed a flight sim called X-Plane and also play it on my ipod. Anyways, thanks for sharing. Looks like fun!

SL is awesome, just remember that its meant to be part of your real life, in the future large portions of the web are likley to be virtual worlds,SL is not a game ,you can play games in it like you mention getting pregnant , getting pregnant is not part of SL,it is a role play that people do in SL, some people role play as star wars characters, myself I supply advertising to real life companys for real money,its what you do with SL that counts.

im a secondlife FREAKKKK...i have 3 babies a house a memorial a shop modeling a dog and cat a horse and when i shop omg i can spend like 16.00 linden in one ouer just on clothes!!!. out of dont noing what to do with my lindens i have 12 skins and 5 difrent avies (a horse..fairy predator wolf and alien) i went out one night stayed u p al night long to shop how nuts is that whhah..so youre defently not alone

I had this same problem with SL addiction.. Loosing sleep, Not being in RL etc etc. It really is addicting and you cant explain it to people who have never played. I do hope you break the addiction hun I remember this look I had this look. Stay strong and try to fight it as much as you can. Take care sweetie

you don't have to pay anything to build, I've built a few structures, now, I have to use some of the Lindens I earn from doing Concerts on SL to get the textures

Aww, hon you look so tired. You need to take care of yourself and get some sleep. I hope you are able to step away from SL, and devote more time to your RL. Because RL passes by so fast, don't let it pass you by. I've read where psychiatrists are seeing a huge rise in the amount of patients they have who are addicted to WoW, and SL. Take care of yourself.

@SLDJGirl I totaly support you. this is madness and very very addictive. i have gone through this madness and i slept only 2-3 hourse a day for 2 years. my health is under recovery. i still play it but thats only for 3-4 hrs a day not more than that. thank god i'm not addicted to it anymore. i love my sl friends. this is my suggestion for those addicted to SL. shut down your PC and go to sleep lol. rl will not forgive you otherwise.

My first year on SL was like that I spent the whole summer inside. I gained weight and was pale as SH*T. Last year I thought I would take it easy and left for a few months. Now I go and not be there for days.
