  • Simon smiled! Its a new record! -camera flash-

  • haha, Simon's face when she starts to sing.

  • Dances badly

    But sings...

    AMAZINGLY

  • Comment removed

  • that simon about to hit the buzzer thing was sooooo played out..

  • She is really really good to sing (: ♥<3

  • lol simons face lol

  • Wow! Incredible voice!! Go Holly! <3

  • she is so adorable and sweet

  • she's so talented!

  • my name is holly too!

  • Isn't she amazing! Quite a sense of humour to break into song at that point! I hope she does well in the comp.

  • meh... i've seen better

  • Love it - but I think she shouls wait til she's older til she releases an album etc. Fame is a bit too much for an 11 year old

  • @hazzathemazza really what told you that was it the fact that she broke down crying on stage in the semi-final, was it she could barley stand after hearing she made it to the finals

  • Did Simon smile? O.o

  • that was AMAZING. how come kids can sing so well nowadays?

  • woooooow

  • Freakin' amazing. <3

  • WOW such a litle girl with such a great voice !!!!

  • shes so stupid!!

  • @Dannie0380

How do you know? Do you have access to her school reports? Do you know her personally? You may not like her singing, but that doesn't make her "stupid."

Comments such as yours say a lot more about the relative intelligence of the person making the comment than the target of the comment. That is particularly so because you didn't use correct grammar that most 5th grade children know.

  • WOW SHE IS AN AWESOME SINGER

  • did she say "i've nvr dumb b4?"

  • @CChaterkid2003

No, she said, "I've never met her before." Hollie's "native" accent is a bit harder to understand than her singing, in which she uses the "posh" round-voweled accent that's taught in British music schools, in part because it IS more understandable. Listen to Elaine Paige, Julie Andrews, & Sarah Brightman.

  • wish i can sing XD

  • insane

  • ok, this kid is ready for Broadway...

    and I'm extremely jealous...haha(:

  • @westsidestory97

More likely the West End. That's the area of London where the theaters are, like Broadway in New York. Holllie may go toward musical theater, which she apparently loves, but she also sings classical music on her CD. Should she be like Charlotte Church (classical crossover & worth £30 million @ age 21!), Julie Andrews (theater) or Sarah Brightman (both)? Time will tell.

  • @gslusher

she reminds me of Julie Andrews when she was younger: amazing range. she NAILED that high note! (:

  • @westsidestory97

Hollie just released a single of "Edelweiss." It can be purchased & downloaded through a link from her Facebook page. I also pre-ordered her CD, which will be out in May.

  • was she meant to sing? cause it looked like an impulse when simon raised his hand.

  • id presume so, i mean she did have a mic on ... they didnt give a mic to everyone did they? even if they did, i dont think it would have been switched on while they were doing their act, only when they were talking to the judges. im not sure though, because i agree with what your saying x

  • @Jessica1988Sunshine

That's where the vocals start. Find Julie Andrews' version. This is the end of the song. SImon knew that; he's thinking, "You'd better sing or get buzzed!" He expected her to sing, just not that well. Kelly said it best--it's hard to believe that voice came from such a tiny little thing. Hollie was & is small, even for her age--supposedly about 4' tall then. If so, 95+% of girls her age would be taller than she.

Hollie is a so-so dancer, but an extraordinary singer.

  • HOLLIE not holly

  • unbelievable she has such an amazing voice.!!! the true voice of an opera singer!! im absolutely amazed

  • increible

  • i love kids!!

  • One word "WOW" you go girl!!!

  • ubleakhouse --Thanks for that! What an awesome person~~I love her, and I loved the Judges, too. The shock on their faces said it all. Have fun, Hollie---enjoy it all.

  • I love this video....where is she now?

  • At the moment, Hollie is getting ready to release a single, Edelweiss, at the end of this month, another single next month, and an album of thirteen tracks in May (all three BGT songs are included ) . In June, she begins a short tour of England, Germany, and Belgium. Google "official hollie steel" and click on the facebook or hollie steel entry for more information.

  • She got eliminated in the final round.

  • is she actually a balerina or was that just a gimmick? as soon as she started singing she stopped, uh, dancing all night.

  • @BlackScarletLove

She did continue to dance a bit. However, she is a singer (an extraordinary one!), not a dancer. The dancing was probably a set-up by her mother, though it sort-of goes with the song. However, the producers knew she'd sing---that's why she has a boom mic. She started singing where the vocals start--it's the last part of the song.

Hollie said in an interview that the tutu was her mother's idea. In the BGT tour, Hollie did this song in a pretty dress--much more appropriate.

  • @gslusher thanks, that's great, that's what i figured! it warms my heart to see children succeed so well, especially such adorable ones hehe!

  • Th dancing was a gimmick, the same way that Greg Pritchard's coming across as a rocker belies his very classical soprano voice. While that worked for him (in the audition), Simon seemed to hold it against Hollie.

But it didn't actually hurt her, as she has that amazing voice to back up the act.

  • Simon's face when she actually beings to sing makes me lol.

  • i love this song!

  • Wow! She's amazing!

  • can i ask wats the title of the song in 4:46 to 4:58 tnx :D

  • @639193160073

Check my comment of a few days earlier. The song is "Rule the World," originally by Take That, though I'm not sure that this is their version, which is no longer available. I did find a version by a generic group in a "tribute" album that sounds very much like the background here.

  • Absolutely amazing. She's obviously had professional vocal training.

  • Comment removed

  • @ferretsrcrunchy

Arrgh--the inability to edit posts is frustrating.

Hollie is amazing, especially for a 10-1/2 yo child.

I'm not sure how much "professional vocal training" Hollie had at this point. She does attend a private school that concentrates on performing arts, so she had at least some voice training there. Find the clips of her later--BGT tour, Hong Kong, etc. She's improved, probably with the help of more individual training.

  • damn she is good

  • what is the song on the background?

  • I could have danced all night from My Fair Lady

  • @essebesse1

I don't know the song during the interview, but, at the end, it's "Rule the World" by Take That, though I'm not sure it's Take That's cut, as that is no longer available. I have a cover by some generic group that sounds like the song here.

"Yeah you and me we can ride on a star

If you stay with me girl, we can rule the world

Yeah you and me we can light up the sky

If you stay by my side, we can rule the world."

    Rather appropriate.

  • amazing. i wish a could sing that good. and i for one love simon even though he can be a bit rude.

  • whats surprize

  • I love Simon's face when she begins singing.

  • Fantasztikussan szep !!!!! KK

  • AWESHUM!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • i think she scared simon

  • @vonraven

"Scared" may not be the word, but she certainly surprised him--not because she sang (see my other comments for why) but because no one would expect that voice from a TINY 10yo. (Hollie is small for her age.) At 2:55, I expect he's thinking something like, "1 down, 39 to go," as Hollie was a sure thing for the semifinals. (This was the first set of auditions.) That's why he said at the end, "Hollie, you are SAILING through to the next round."

  • 1:44 / OMG^^

  • I Love my al! Would def support her!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is this for real or are you kidding cause that was amazing

  • Awesome vid. Holly, you rock!!!!

  • this was a set up noyhing was said about her singing in the interview they said only dancing yet she had a microphone on i think simon knew beforehand or the producers set it up and the family pretending to be a dancer when she had no intention of dancing it was singing she was trying to do what a set up very clever though to shock people

  • @jonesperry10

The setup was by her mom, not the producers. (They would know she'd sing.) Hollie DID dance--not very well, but she did.

Ant & Dec said that the judges (& they) know nothing about the acts before they go on stage. They interview everyone before they perform.

If Simon saw the boom mic (most use a lapel mic--only singers who move a lot would get a boom), he knew she would sing. At 1:40, he's saying, "Sing, or you're toast!" Bet he's glad he hesitated.

  • WAW YOUR SO AMAZING AND AWESOME

  • BRILLIANT!

  • Eternal, totally agree! I think they knew beforehand.

  • i did not expect that!!!!!!!!

  • this made me cry!

  • What is the title of the song at 4:39 ????

And also this kid has tremendous talent !!!

  • Rule the World - Take That

  • @Marksman994

As seto19 said, it's "Rule the World," originally by Take That. This may not actually be Take That, as it seems to be unavailable--no CD or authorized download. iTunes Store & Amazon have it by "Pop Feast," from a sort of a "tribute" album, I guess. It sounds a lot like this.

"Yeah, you & me we can ride on a star

If you stay with me, girl, we can rule the world.

Yeah, you & me we can light up the sky

If you stay by my side, we can rule the world."

    Appropriate for Hollie!

  • She sang soooooooooooooooooooooo good!! She was amazing!!!! But she didn't do much ballet but IM NOT HATING!!!!!!!!! SHE WAS AWESOME!

  • wow amazing just showed them when she started singing

  • OK, the girl is awesome, but this video disturbs me.

The moment when Saimon is about to push the button is so convinient for her.. Music is in the right place to start singing and he's hovering his hand for a second or two, like if it all scripted.

    Why?

    Think about it.

  • @EternalSearcher

Your'e right about the music. I expect Simon knew the song & thought, "Sing or get buzzed!" Hollie said in an interview that she didn't see Simon.

Also, the auditions were edited for broadcast. This looked interesting, so they included it. Each judge probably had a camera on him/her all the time to catch reactions for possible use. Notice that Simon, then Amanda, then Kelly appear to react when Hollie sings--those were likely all at the same time but were put in separately.

  • great job ! !... awesome !!

  • does anyone knows wat's the title of the song that is sung at the end of this video and who is the artiste who sang this song?

  • was not expecting that, that was fantastic

  • At 4:31 Kelly Brook's hair style changes. It was parted left to right up until this point.

  • right after a few secs it changes back!

  • @BoosterPac

Good catch! You'd be good at continuity! It looks like the video was flipped horizontally, probably so that the angle on Kelly looked the same in the close-up as in the group shot. The close-up may have been from a camera to Kelly's left, while the camera for the group shot was to her right. It's easy to do in post-processing.

  • 1.45 so pwned :D

  • Holy crap... amazing...

  • holy fu***ing gosh

  • Almost 1million

  • Hollie has an amazingly brilliant voice for a 10 year old. Wish her well in the future , she's got great potentials.

As for God-Simon, he's got to learn it's time to change his attitude on judging books by it's looks and not try to excuse it like after seeing he was so wrong..invalid excuses!

    BRAVO Hollie.

  • 50 times better than susan boyle.

  • HOLY SHIZNET!

  • ALL I CAN SAY IS AMAZING

  • Holy shit!!

    Awesome!

  • she is soooo amazing

  • Holy shit!

  • lol, she owned simon!

  • I totally disagree with Simon I love that song, but her outfit looks AWFUL!!! She has HUGE voice

  • @DREAM34576

I agree. The song is OK, though it's been done many times. OTOH, it suits her voice. She sang it on the BGT tour.

Her outfit is bad. It's too small & too LOW. Hollie said the tutu was her mother's idea--she wanted to wear a pretty dress. She could have danced in a dress--swirling like Julie Andrews. (She does on the tour, but it's a bit affected.) Even so, she could have worn a more "normal" ballet outfit the right size. She's small, but that looks like last year's tutu.

  • @DREAM34576

Simon essentially told Hollie 3 things, which she took to heart:

    1. Don't dance! (She didn't.)

    2. Don't sing that song again. (ALL other singers, save Bessie Cursons, did their audition song in the final--Hollie did not.)

    3. "You're better than that"---sing a more difficult song, which she certainly did--"Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again." This song may have gotten more votes, but "Wishing" showed her talent better. (Since then, she's also sung "Nessun Dorma" in public.)

  • she is only 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    woooow sie singt soooooooooooooooooooo guut

    man ey echt krass.

  • An addendum: I think that HOLLIE didn't realize just how good she was, as Simon said. Nina (mum) probably did--see her reaction to Dec's "Wow!" @ 1:50 and to Simon's comment at 4:06. (Nina later said that she couldn't hear the judges' comments very well. The speakers in the theater are aimed at the audience.)

OTOH, the AUDIENCE realized just how good Hollie was about 5 seconds after she started singing. They were right, too!

  • i think Hollie's parents planned the "surprise." Listen to her dad--he stumbles a bit when he says "whenever I see Hollie .... dance" @ 0:40.

I've read that they came mostly for Hollie's brother, Josh, who had already auditioned & been turned down. (I wish there were a clip of his audition!) Watch Josh's face @ 1:51, 3:34 & 4:05--I think he hadn't realized before just HOW good his little sister was. Nina said later that Josh said, "My little sister's going to be famous!" He was right!

  • ive never noticed how white and straight simons teeth are. just goes to show you notice more if ur observant.

hollie couldnt get 2 far as a dancer. shes an amazing singer

  • GOSH! isn't she amazing?!

  • she has more of a future as a singer, not a ballerina.

  • i wish i could sing that well

  • That Connie is rubbish, Hollies an awesome singer :)

  • wow! amazing voice!

  • i thought she was gonna dance!!!!!

  • fooled you ah?

  • she cant really dance but she sure can SING!!!

  • Simon probably knew she was going to sing, but how good, he didn't know!

  • stupid simon that wanted to stop her. but in the end just to justied himself he said that he didnt like the clothes and the music! but of course he HAD to like her voice

  • she has a mic with her so simon must of known she was going to sing!

  • every one has a mic..

  • yeh but round her head.

  • holy cow this girl sent shivers down my back. what an amazing voice.

  • was she actually PLANNING on singing? becuase wen simon was about to press the buzzer, it looked like she made a quick deciosion to sing. like out of the blue

  • She CAN´T dance!

    But she CAN sing^^

  • Simons fake bullshit acting surprised when she started singing makes me want to puke...like he didnt know she was about to sing..what a clown..an absolute high trousered prick

  • :o amaaaaaazzzzziiiiiinnnngggg!!!!!! *jaw drops*

  • DAAAYYUMMM

  • eeatan fi-yah ?

  • i thought it was just a little ballet show,

but when she opened her mouth...

    I was totally STUNNED!!!!

  • Another child prodigy. Where is she now, and if she isn't pursuing her talent, then someone has some explaining to do.

  • Can anyone tell me what's the song in the background, when the jury starts talking after Hollie's appearence?

  • it's Rule the World by Take That. It was one of the songs in the movie by Stardust

  • simon was about to buzz her when she was dancing!! she amazing

  • holy shit i wish my vioce is like that mine is like a dying hyena =)

  • Comment removed

  • vVvGREEKvVv: don't worry. mine is too.

  • she has an amazing voice my computer stopped at the part when simons mouth dropped open that was so funny lol

  • hey ForevahMJ,

she's only 10, jesus christ. she had immense stress because of her parents that put her on the show. perfectly normal for her to have a breakdown

  • What I don't get, is that when Hollie had her "breakdown" during the live taping..howdoes that differ from when she auditioned in front of an audience full of people?

I could NEVER in my life audition in front of a whole mess of people like that, so she has great guts and talent, but I really don't get the difference? :S

  • excuse me? Who the hell do you think you are? Hollie is an extremely beautiful and talented child, I was no way in hell bashing an angel like her. My question was what the difference was between someone singing in front of an audience + the judges in an audition, and during a normal taping in front of an audience + judges.

THAT was my question, you jerk.
