Man this game was awesome, I loved it. I used to just listen to the ambient music, it fit so well when walking around the desert. I only heard radio music when I was near a radio. I spent about 100 hours on the core game, I haven't played any dlc yet. Better than Fallout 3 in my opinion, but both are great.
I love the ambiance in New Vegas, but I much prefer Fallout 3's map design. Fallout 3 had destroyed buildings and makeshift shelters strewn about, whereas New Vegas is just sand, sand and more sand. If somebody could convert Fallout 3's map into New Vegas, I'd be happy.
That's kind of the point- the idea was to convey the sense that the world is empty, that it seems like there's a lot less in it, while hinting that it was much more dangerous
It beats FO3 by a mile or more. It has more choices, more, many more options, better factions, and better, far better companions. And it nails the old FO and FO2 humour much better. Not surprisingly, since Obsidian basicly ~is~ the old Black Isle Studio, ressurected without Interplay.
But hats off to Bethesda for allowing Obsidian to make this game! :o)
I'm quite fed up with the battle themes as well. Level 28 and alls I EVER hear in a battle is the percussion only versions. OOOoooo bangs and clanks, percussion, such fascinating music too listen to in the heat of a battle /sarcasm
RPGs released decades ago have better music, and that's what I will be listening too while playing from now on.
I don't even know why I gave the music another chance, probably so I could flame it into oblivion with an informed opinion.
Alright that's it. The verdict is in. 200 hours into this game gives me the right to say that the world music (not the radio) is absolutely terrible. I've never heard such boring and empty ambient before. I know they want to go for hollow sounding weird stuff, but check out other games that actually do this right. HL2s ambient is amazing and actually sounds like soundscape. Save for like 2 of the oldschool fallout 1 and 2 tracks, the music just puts me in a trance of boredom.
@curtis8516 they either have a bad XBOX 360, a bad PS3, a faulty copy of the game, incompatible hardware on PC or they've modified anyone of those, or they're simply unlucky enough to suck at life.
Nice vid. What's the world like compared to fo3? fo3 had a good deal of variation and it really nailed the post-apocalyptic setting. I loved wandering around discovering a new shack, factory, power plant etc. Reminded me of The Road.
@magic118 New Vegas doesn't deviate from the original formula so you'll undoubtedly enjoy it. And, since it MORE new things for you to discover while wandering, it'll blow you away.
@GruntofAction It's the same engine. It's been optimized a little bit and runs a lot better than Fallout 3 when it came out, but overall it's the same. When the mods start rolling, the game is going to see a huge improvement.
But still, the art direction is top notch. The Fallout world is the pinnacle of post-futuristic-past-apocalyptic.
Just rented it today on the Xbox. Seems to be a lot better than Fallout 3 was. Only glitch I've encountered in my 2 hours of playing was a Coyote stuck in a rock.
@GruntofAction But look at how they improved the Elder Scroll's graphics, when Fallout 4 comes out it'll look ALOT better. Unless they want to piss their fanbase off.

While the game itself holds many of the same aspects, it is far less urban in the most concentrated parts of the game.

I hated that the actual music was so quiet and never really came on at most times....

This music is much better than that crap that Ion zur made
Smola666 1 year ago
@Smola666 Inon Zur composed the music for New Vegas. It's certainly an improvement over his previous work, I agree.

I read in reviews that, (around the time of release) that this game was very buggy.
However, the game has been patched. And is now more smoother.
