best way to drive on ice is get a manual car with proper snow tyres or chains even.

with a manual u can use engine braking (some automatics do have this but i don't think it'll be that great as doing it yourself)

Wow this is an incredibly uninformative video, it takes a little more than 4 and a half minutes to figure out how to keep control of your car.

Second please explain to me how using the accelerator helps to decelerate your car? Yes, braking will make a skid or slide worse but you cannot stop with the gas pedal.Third did she really accomplish any actual maneuvers?

And finally get professional help, if you have trouble driving in winter conditions, take a defensive or skilled driving class.

Well, I've always used my brakes. I've never slammed them down, but I would pump them to try and regain control of my vehicle. My first reaction would not be to hit the gas. She seems to know what she's doing, though, and I was never taught in driver's ed what to do when dealing with icy roads. Ever since I've had my license, I've been dealing with them with instinct. So far, so good. Hopefully to God I just didn't jinx myself. :|

lower tire presure would actualy give you better traction on the ice. also the friction of the tires on the road will heat them up anyway.

4x4 and all wheel drive will help stearing on ice if you know not to make th4e tires spin but use them to pull you where you want to go.

I drove logging truck in northern BC for 15 years. we used to go out on the frozen lakes and do this stuff for fun but t's amazing how much you learn out there.

besides slush is more dangerous it will stear for you.

The best way to learn how to drive in winter is just to go to a parking lot and much around. No need for the make-up dummies on TV to show you.

4: If you are braking and steering wont work (this can happen with ABS too if it's extremely slippery). Let lose of the brake and correct your direction carefully.

5: I dont know if studded tires are legal in the USA or not, but anyways. Studded winter tires are good on ice and snow. / Non-studded winter tires are good on snow, but really bad on ice.

6: The most important thing. Adjust your speed to the weather conditions.

Some basic tips from Finland.

1: II prefer a stick shit car. If you start to lose controll, just hit the clutch (lets wheels spin freely and keeps you in controll)

2: Don't panic and make too big streering moves. When the grip comes back and your tires point ie. to the curb, that's where you're going to end.

3: When braking with ABS push the pedal with everything you got. The popping noise that you hear can come only from one brake disc if you dont push hard enough.

I recommend engine braking. For turning just pull the ebrake and reverse lock, feather the throttle. Basically use drift techniques and track techniques on the ice. Really bad idea to stomp on the brakes your rear goes out when you least want it to.
