Are the wonderful songs sung by the children in Mandarin or some other language like Qiang?

My Mandarin isn't very good, but I recognize quite a few of the words in Chen Honglin's song and also in the interviews with the two children.

Abby, I heard about this project on NPR and immediately purchased the collection on iTunes. Incredible is the only words that come to mind. I've been listening to the songs all day and can't stop humming these melodies and thinking about these stories. Thank you for this great project and gift.
