No one before or since has done this. This shows that Bo is a true artist and can sing. Bo is the best, loved him during the show and still a huge fan even 6 years later. Bo has very loyal fans! We love you Bo!
@mustangpatty51 Kris Allen did sing without the band on "Heartless" - he only had his acoustic guitar. But you are right in the sense that Bo is the only one putting on a performance entirely without the band and without other instruments than his own voice. They weren't allowed to use instruments back then, but I would imagine Bo would play the guitar too from time to time. :)

Whenever a song is covered on a show like this, the folks who know the original will come out in support of the original artist and there is nothing wrong with that because Ray Gillen was an amazing singer. However, the huge majority who have seen this performance did not know of Ray Gillen. I salute Bo for taking a chance on a song very few have heard and paying tribute to Ray on that stage on the biggest night of his life. Bo helped keep Ray's name alive and I will always admire him for that.

The original is by a group called Badlands and it is from their album Voodoo Highway from 1991. You can find the CD on E-Bay for about 25 bucks. They only did 3 albums and they were very underrated but if you like blues influenced hard rock then you should like them.
I wish Adam Lambert would have sung acapella so he could have topped this performance, because I think his voice is clearly better. This performance, however, tops anything Idol has ever produced. There's been at least 3 seasons I can think of where the clear cut most talented singer hasn't won. Rock singers are just plain better. There are millions of choir boys and girls out there that can sing like 75% of the Idol contestants. It really brings the show down.

I LOVE Acappella - I didn't watch this Season, but clearly I should have ;) I love that gruff strong male voice singing acappella style (you hear it a lot on traditional Irish/Celtic songs - Bo Bice is a Viking, so that's close enough).
I have yet to see anything surpass this. With maybe an exception for Daughtry or the showmanship of Adam Lambert. This gave me goosebumps on top of goosebumps!
If you think about it....Idol has kept true to itself...those who don't win, with exception of Carrie who perfectly gits corny country, has had stars who do not win. Vice, Daughtry, Dolittle, whats her name that was huge in "Dreamgirls", Lambert have all out classed the competition...but were not the run of the meal stereotype artist...Bo and Adam are my favs...true artist. It is a shame that Vice had heath issues that prevented him from riding his wave of success on Idol.

I LOVE Acappella - I didn't watch this Season, but clearly I should have ;) I love that gruff strong male voice singing acappella style (you hear it a lot on traditional Irish/Celtic songs - Bo Bice is a Viking, so that's close enough).

I have yet to see anything surpass this. With maybe an exception for Daughtry or the showmanship of Adam Lambert. This gave me goosebumps on top of goosebumps!

If you think about it....Idol has kept true to itself...those who don't win, with exception of Carrie who perfectly gits corny country, has had stars who do not win. Vice, Daughtry, Dolittle, whats her name that was huge in "Dreamgirls", Lambert have all out classed the competition...but were not the run of the meal stereotype artist...Bo and Adam are my favs...true artist. It is a shame that Vice had heath issues that prevented him from riding his wave of success on Idol.

Good version but doesn't come close to being as good as the original with Ray Gillen and Badlands. Listen to it and you'll agree. This is the best thing that has ever been sung on that show but there is only one Ray Gillen. RIP Ray

The following night on the results show there was such an overwhelming response that they had Bo perform this song again. I have never seen that happen anytime else on Idol. Best Idol ever!

I got chills when I saw it the first time...still does it to me. I didn't watch last season and I'm not watching this season though. The show's become a big commercial for has-beens trying to sell new albums and it's sad

Bo shoud have won that year. I quit watching Americdan Idol after that. I could not believe that he didn't win. Looking into his eyes while he done this number made my heart jump with love for this song. Bo rocks!
